LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Welcome to the 2020 edition of the Zuiver catalogue. In the following pages, we invite you to discover the latest in unique design from Zuiver. If I were to choose one product to spotlight here, it would be the Grow floor lamp series, which was developed as a collaboration between Zuiver and Dutch art and design studio REM Atelier. Flip to page 140 and let yourself be surprised at the stunning result – we know we were! Our carpet collection (on page 120) is another thing worth getting acquainted with. Sometimes this process feels like picking a favourite child, but I really feel that this year’s collection features some of our best carpet designs yet. Take Frills, for instance, with its stand-out side fringing, or Blink, with its beautiful sheen and head-turning border. It was love at first sight between Blink and I, and as soon as we received the sample – I took home the sanded version for my own lounge area. With the borders between inside and outside spades become more and more blurred, it was about time that we stepped in to the backyard. On page 258, you’ll see that we did so with timeless delight. To me, the Pilar table (page 44), Luigi side table (page 54) and the family of Benson chairs (page 4) are three shining examples that really encapsulate what Zuiver stands for: fresh, fashionable and contemporary design. So, don’t let me keep you any longer – feel free to dig in and discover the world of Zuiver.

Almost a century ago, one of our ancestors came to the Netherlands from Italy. He had a special skill: making terrazzo. This material goes back at least 500 years and was invented in Italy as way of using leftover pieces of marble. The small fragments were mixed with cement or clay and used for terrace floors (hence the name). Terrazzo eventually became even more popular than marble for floors. At Zuiver, we love revisiting old techniques. This is why we decided to use terrazzo for the tops of our Luigi side tables. We also named the table after our ancestor – an opportunity we just couldn’t ignore.

We brought the houseplant to a next level; meet our Zuiver Grow lamp-series. For this framed beauty we worked together with Rotterdam-based design studio REM atelier. Together we created four different sized, dimmable lamps with each presenting their own exotic houseplant: Zebra Plant (M), Fiddle Leaf Fig (L), Fan Palm (XL), and Elephant Ear Plant (XXL). A three-dimensional, layered picture of the plant is placed into a light box, creating a hyper realistic illusion of a living plant. REM Atelier started observing the way people decorated their living spaces with plants. The plants are often placed in window frames and clinging to the windows, as plants tend to do when they grow towards the light. So who’s up for some illusion with this exotic houseplant that doesn’t need any water nor can’t die? Show us your hands!

DESIGNER RIK VAN MIERLO Rik van Mierlo is a student at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. He designed two minimalistic, timeless clocks for our home deco collection which both totally meet our Zuiver DNA requirements. When designing the clocks, Rik was actually inspired by the complete opposite: “Inspiration for the design originates from my granny’s place. I wanted to work with the old-fashioned wooden pendulum wall and table clocks.”
