ALCAZAR, IAN LUCTOR_ET_EMERGO I am a passionate maker of things. The act of creating and seeing being used and enjoyed brings a sense of fulfillment; Be it culinary, graphics, events, videos, or photography. However, architecture is the pinnacle of human ingenuity and creation; it is something that encompasses all the senses. It is my dream to be a maker of one. My family moved t0 Australia from the Philippines back in 2008 in search of greener pastures. Throughout the years, I have experienced encountering diverse range of people, piquing my interest on exploring and observing cultural identities and thereby discovering and enriching my own identity

TRANSIENT IDENTITIES University_Highschool
Project Brief: A Senior Highschool building The identity of a student and his learning needs undoubtedly changes throughout the day and year. However, with the existing pedagogical landscape in University Highschool being unflexible and archaic, students are forced to conform to learning styles that are ineffective to them.
EVOLVING SPATIAL IDENTITY
To suit learning needs of a changing learning day and year
Thornburg’s Learning Spaces
CAVE Contemplating + Reflecting
CAMPFIRE Listening + Watching
WATERING HOLE Collaborating + Interacting
LIFE Testing + Showcasing
Informed by Thornburg’s four learning spaces, the project proposes an architecture that provides spaces for each stlyle and spaces that shifts depending on the needs of the students.; Thereby breaking the conventional mono-focal four walled classroom. By allowing spatial identities to change, students are able to learn according to which learning style fits them most; and thereby enabling them to learn efficiently and effectively. The programs are individualised modules accessible via outdoor circulation; allowing for independent usage of spaces during and outside school hours without interrupting other spaces. The school building addresses environmental concerns, weight issues due to the pre-existing underground parking and timeconstraints by using CLT as main construction material. 2

STUDIO WATER
CASA DEL BARCOS Studley_Park
Project Brief: A boathouse in a style of a Master
“Architects don’t invent anything; they transform reality” -Álvaro Siza The studio started with a study of the architectural work and philosophy of Alvaro Siza. Works such as the Mimesis Museum and the Santa Maria Church were examined. The design language was then appropriated and used to create a boathouse in Studley Park. The site offered an opportunity to divide the programs along the steep slope based on the intended participation of the users with the river. Among the design languages employed are the careful curation of entry sequences, framing, minimalistic use of materiality, assymetricallity and sculptural geometries. User experience starts with the highly textured rammed earth that leads the sight line to the sculptural mass in the horizon. The river is activated through the cascading steps along the riverbank. Above, while the cafe is treated with sweeping views of the activated river, the restaurant is treated with a framing of the river away from the activities thereby creating isolation and exclusivity of view. 10

STUDIO EARTH
SHHH... IT’S A SECRET Herring_Island
Project Brief: A Pavilion that embodies a secret
layers_of_secret
The very ethos of a secret is ironic. It seeks to hide itself but once it is revealed, even just its shadow; It lures you. It screams its presence. The project aims to translate this very idea of a secret in the context of a rather secretive site of Herring Island. The architecture includes vertical timber members that are arranged in a meandering line; creating a wall from this series. This wall multiplied, manipulated and layered to create a mass; orchestrating an experience that lures a person to investigate and explore. The changing acoustic and visual permeability of the walls generates a pulsating teases of what lies ahead but never fully revealing until one reaches it. The material used mimics the surrounding environment but doesn’t try to hide itself. It blends but makes it presence known when revealed.

CONSTRUCTION
CONSTRUCTION DESIGN
THE GLASSHOUSE Tasked to draft an axonometric projection drawing of a portion of The Glasshouse taking into account the different layers that ultimately makes the building function and the different layers that works to fulfill the design intent. The second phase of the project involved the creation of the 1:20 physical mode. Careful study of each element and how they work in conjunction with other elements were demonstrated throughout the presented materials and in-class presentation with the tutor. The projected culminated with a final presentation in front of industry professionals where as the building construction was explained and discussed.

LIQUID AMBER HOUSE Tasked to distinguish 12 different stages of construction and draft it accordingly; By deriving it from architectural plans and on-site photos. Project culminated into a production of a flip book complimented with audio commentary of each stages.

STUDIO AIR
OF LIFE, DEATH, AND DECAY Virtual_Reality
PROJECT BRIEF: A Virtual Museum Space that brings about a change in visitor’s relationship to Merri Creek
The project aims to reconcile the thematic idea of life, death and decay with an otherwise unworldly virtual reality using artifacts ,both physical and virtual, derived from the creek. The experience, with its artifacts exuding the essence of the theme, shines a spotlight with a degree of user speculation on the environmental neglect and destruction of the creek. The virtual elements “Pavilion” and “Echo” were conceived through experimentation; The Pavilion being the final iteration of parametric exploration applied to an anchored mesh and “Echo” being a processed 3d Scan of the “Copy_of_Merri_Tree” applied with a basic parametric algorithm similar to the “Life” series.
Parametric Exploration Experiment_Series_#22-46 “Life”
The studio itself explored the role of emerging technologies on informing an architectural discourse. It explored algorithmic designing using Grasshopper 3d, Virtual Reality using Oculus Rift powered by Unity 3D and Photogrammetry using Agisoft Photoscan. Studio journal: http://goo.gl/1g3a9R 22
