A LETTER FROM ALEX & STEVE

As a third-generation family business wrapping up its 70th year, we would like to take a moment to touch on our company’s history and why Aldridge Electric has succeeded when so many others did not. Aldridge started as a humble electrical contractor that provided power to commercial buildings in the Midwest. Today, we are a leading national contractor, but still a place where our people feel like they are part of a small family business that cares about them and their families.

Looking back at Aldridge’s 70 years of growth and progress, patterns emerge that underlie our success. The powerful patterns of being Safety Committed, Challenge Driven, Learning Focused, and Passionate People are detailed in this edition.

Being ‘Safety Committed’ is not only a powerful pattern of our history, it is a core value and a driver of everything we do. It’s about leading the industry and believing that we can operate incident and injury free. Being ‘Challenge Driven’ has allowed us to pursue the most complex projects and find opportunity in risk. Being ‘Learning Focused’ has meant always looking for a better way, and has resulted in transformational innovations. And being ‘Passionate People’ has always just meant that we care - about our customers, our projects, and each other.

Thank you for supporting Aldridge for 70 years and for being a part of our powerful patterns. We look forward to the next 70!

ALDRIDGE HOSTS NATIONAL SAFETY WEEK 2022

Aldridge Chairman of the Board, Ken Aldridge, was honored to serve as the national chairman for Construction Safety Week in 2022. The theme “Connected. Supported. Safe.” reiterated the previous year’s message of holistic safety while encouraging the industry to unite for the common cause of keeping people safe.

Aldridge kicked off the week with a signature event hosted at our newest office location in Des Plaines, Illinois. Hundreds of industry leaders and professionals joined in the discussion of both mental and physical safety. Ken used the signature event and several outreach activities leading up to Safety Week to share our story of converting from traditional hard hats to safety helmets and urge the entire industry to do the same. We are proud to have given out over 250 helmets during the event, which ultimately influenced a number of our industry partners to make the switch and help to reduce traumatic brain injuries.

As the week continued, Aldridge leadership visited over 100 job sites and offices across the country and engaged in meaningful safety conversations with our crews. To learn more about our involvement in Safety Week 2022, visit https://bit.ly/AldridgeHostsSW2022

SAFETY COMMITTED

SAFETY CULTURE

Since 2014, Aldridge has been on a mission to reshape the way we look at safety. With the implementation of our Incident and Injury Free (IIF) program, there was a big shift in our safety culture. Today, our IIF journey continues with the infusion of “Making Safe Decisions®” - a psychological approach to recognizing exposures that can lead to incidents or injuries.

We believe that relationships are the foundation of all of our accomplishments and that drives our culture of care and concern. Safety is not just a program, it is a mindset that we carry with us every day. We strive to be best-in-class and are always looking for areas of improvement.

Pipeline | Spring 2023 70 YEARS OF BEING

Aldridge has a long track record of prioritizing safety on our projects. Even when challenges arise, our clients know they can count on Aldridge to put safety first.

ENHANCED WORK POLICIES

This year, our craft voice teams recognized potential hazards and worked with project leaders and management to improve our Method of Procedure (MOP), Line Clearance Permit (LCP), and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) policies. These improved tools will help eliminate exposures to maintain safe and reliable work areas.

FALL PROTECTION

Our comprehensive fall protection plan mandates a Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) and perimeter protection for all open excavations over 6’ deep. There are no exceptions. In addition, access within 6’ of the excavation is controlled by perimeter protection to ensure complete compliance.

Aldridge safety professionals worked with 3M, a leading PFAS manufacturer, to develop a cutting-edge PFAS with a self-retracting lifeline (SRL) and a built-in shock pack. This device is an industry success and is used across Aldridge projects.

CHALLENGE DRIVEN

We see opportunity in complex projects and embrace challenges. Our talented people and robust planning processes give us the confidence to pursue and complete showcase projects.

TRANSPORTATION

Aldridge’s transportation industry success started decades ago with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Working on the country’s second largest transit system brought risk, and so we invested in system experts to compliment the core craft and project leadership. Together, this team improved means and methods, made equipment advancements, and mitigated countless safety hazards. Investing in the industry’s best people has made Aldridge a sought-after industry partner for challenging projects in the transit, highway, port, and aviation markets.

AND DISTRIBUTION

Aldridge has been working on power delivery systems for over 25 years. Very quickly after entering the market, Aldridge won two major foundation contracts - one in the west and the other in the east. Those jobs came with many risks including weather, terrain, manpower, and equipment. Our teams were able to step up, take on the challenges and finish successfully - cementing our place in the market. Today, we are the go-to specialty contractor for challenging foundation work on power systems.

Our electrical distribution work was launched through contractor of choice (COC) contracts at multiple utilities. Working on high and medium voltage systems, Aldridge crews consistently executed work that met and exceeded project expectations. We grew with our client’s needs, continuing to gain experience in substations, substation security systems, secondary networks, and most recently transmission line work. Our utility workforce, once just a few three-man crews, is now over 400 strong.

LEARNING FOCUSED

MODULAR UNDERGROUND INFRASTRUCTURE SOLUTIONS

Aldridge has always looked to learn and improve. PreFab and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) have really driven the next level of transformational innovations. A new approach to underground solutions, as shown in this photo, allows for assembly of modular conduit packages in our qualitycontrolled off-site, on-site, and near-site facilities. These packages can then be safely and efficiently lowered into the excavation, offering schedule certainty to the client by eliminating external factors found in the field. Soon, the complex conduit system seen here will be encased and backfilled, making way for a room full of servers powering the world’s data needs.

Aldrige has a number of Subject Matter Experts who specialize in making equipment innovations. Over the years, their experiments have resulted in unique tools and equipment modifications that have improved our processes, productivity, quality and safety.

In order to meet critical schedules during airport night closures, our innovators developed a rock wheel to cut through concrete to expedite conduit installation.

For water-only access projects, we have outfitted our drill rigs and excavators with amphibious tracks in order to minimize environmental damage while rebuilding the grid.
