FORBES Magazine lebeled the International Carnival of Mazatlan as one of the three largest, after Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil and New Orleans, in USA. La revista FORBES calificó el Carnaval Internacional de Mazatlán como uno de los tres más grandes, después de Río de Janeiro, en Brasil y Nueva Orleans, en Estados Unidos.

During the five days before Ash Wednesday each year the “mazatlecos” celebrate their top Mazatlan party. In 1998 the Carnival of Mazatlan turned a century old in its modern phase. Each year, at the time of carnival, Mazatlan is transformed not only by the ornaments that are installed in some of the streets but also by the apparent attitude of the population predisposed to happiness.
Durante los cinco días previos al miércoles de ceniza de cada año los mazatlecos celebran su máxima fiesta. En 1998 el carnaval de Mazatlán cumplió un siglo de existencia en su fase moderna. Cada año, en las fechas de carnestolendas, Mazatlán se transforma no sólo por los adornos que se instalan en algunas de sus calles sino también por la evidente actitud de la población predispuesta a la alegría.

Mazatlan’s Carnival is distinguished from other carnivals in the country and the world, because here fun is offered to the rhythm of “banda”; Tambora, regional music from Sinaloa has transcended the world through what is now calls “la onda grupera.” In addition, the program of this party, as an exception, includes cultural activities (contests of poetry, literature award and great artistic quality shows), in which party extends to all sectors of the population and covers all range of tastes of locals and tourists.
El Carnaval de Mazatlán se distingue de los otros carnavales del país y del mundo, porque aquí la diversión se ofrece al ritmo de la “banda”; la música de la Tambora regional que de Sinaloa ha trascendido al mundo a través de lo que hoy se llama “la onda grupera”. Además, el programa de esta fiesta, como caso excepcional, incluye actividades de carácter cultural (certámenes de poesía, premio de literatura y espectáculos de enorme calidad artística), con los que la fiesta se extiende a todos sectores de la población y abarca toda la gama de gustos de los porteños y de los turistas.
