On vacation in the TarAhumara Mountains! a unique winter trip
// If the traveler is looking for a winter holiday different to those found in mainstream destinations, the Sierra Tarahumara is the right place to go, thanks to its inhabitants’ customs and the beautiful vastness of one of the most beautiful regions in Mexico. “Las Barrancas del Cobre” (Copper Canyon) is a series of canyons formed by six rivers that drain the western side of the mountain chain, up to 1.870 m deep and 3,300 m high above sea level, creating a majestic landscape; in addition, the canyons’ cliffs are copperygreen, a color which gave birth to their name. This region is connected to the Pacific coast and the northern parts of Chihuahua by 940 kilometers of railways, from Topolobampo to Ojinaga and its construction, which began in 1897, is a masterpiece of engineering: the
tracks go through 39 bridges and 86 tunnels. Nowadays, the train used for this tour is called “El Chepe”, and is equipped with first-class coaches, a restaurant and a bar. It is one of the greatest train journeys in the world! The trip goes through different climatic zones and changing vegetation environments, and it is a truly deep and enriching experience to get in touch with local people and learn about their way of living and culture: the Rarámuri. They have preserved their ancient native culture. An essential stop is Creel, listed as a Magical Town, surrounded by places of such beauty that they are close to unreal: the Valley of the Monks and Cusárare waterfall are among many others, one of these Mexican corners which radiate magic.

Unprecedented success in Mexico! // The global interest that has been given to Mayan prophecies on doomsday has put Mexico in the center of the world, and whether it is true or just a myth, the event will provide a series of extraordinary experiences to travelers who come to discover Yucatan Peninsula’s imposing archaeological ruins, its natural wonders, and the luxury that characterizes this world class tourism spot. For instance, in the Regional Museum of Anthropology Carlos Pellicer Cámara, in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Monument 6 or Stela 6, a carved stone which gave birth to the alleged catastrophic prophecy - but actually tells the story of a ruler in the region-, is much visited. In the end, what can be accepted as a fact is that these days in the Yucatan Peninsula will be spectacular in every way, becoming an unprecedented event in the history of modern Mexico.

owadays, soccer is going through a golden age in Spain since the Spanish have been consolidated as one of the most powerful soccer generations in the history of this sport after winning the European Cup and the World Cup in South Africa. Nevertheless, the biggest “net-breakers” in the world are distributed throughout the map. The most powerful teams in Spain also have the most successful players who are foreign. Such is the case of Lionel Messi from Barcelona who is Argentinian and Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid who is Portuguese. There is also the Swedish Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has recently been named the new goal striker for Paris Saint Germain. We cannot leave out the Colombian Radamel Falcao who, along with coach Diego Simeone, has given the Atlético a chance of being a contender to the title. Mexico has not been left behind in the production of strikers. In Chicharito Hernández Mexican fans have found a hero who will continue with the glory of Hugo Sánchez in the 80´s or Luis García in the 90´s. During these decades our country had world renown strikers who were successful outside of Mexico, such as El Doctor, striker for the Colchoneros and Hugol five times best striker in the Spanish soccer league. Son and grandson of soccer players, Javier Hernández Balcázar was born on June 1, 1988 in Guadalajara. At the age of 9 he enrolled into the Chivas junior team to begin his soccer career. It is here where he began to be known as Chicharito in honor of his father, El Chícharo Hernández, a player for the Tecos team, who was given this name due to his short stature and green eyes. As a member of the young team, Hernández Jr. played with the Sub 17 that made it to the World Cup in Peru but he was not included in the draft called by Jesús Ramírez who won the World Cup on October 2, 2005. For the 2005-2006 season, Chicharito made his debut as a
professional player with Chivas Coras, a partner of the team in Tepic. When finishing that tournament, he had the opportunity with the first team in Guadalajara on September 9, nine years ago. He scored the last goal that won the match against Necaxa 4-0. In 2007 he had a new opportunity with the Mexican Selection and he was called to play the Sub 20 World Cup in Canada where he scored a goal against Gambia, which was his only goal in five matches. A couple of years later, the Guadalajara born player proved his potential becoming the third best scorer in the opening season with 11 goals in 17 matches. This caught the interest of Javier Aguirre, who was then coach of the Mexican Selection. He debuted him on September 30, 2009 in a match against Colombia, which was lost 1-2. The only goal scored that match was product of a pass done by Chicharito to Paul Aguilar.

The player´s breakthrough came in 2010 after scoring 6 goals during the first three matches of the Closing season. These were scored against Toluca, Tigres and Estudiantes. Although he suffered an injury and could not finish the tournament due to his concentration for the World Cup, he was able to win the Championship for best Scorer along with Héctor Mancilla, Johan Fano and Hércules Gómez. This success was not in vain for several European soccer clubs were interested in him, amongst these teams was PSV and Valencia. On April 8 of that same year Hernández officially became a player for Manchester United after an announcement of a five-year contract.

// It is hard to imagine the Christmas season parties and “posadas” without a “piñata” because breaking it is a tradition that children and adults long for. Of course, as many other Mexican traditions, “piñatas” were born from a mixture of several cultures and its origin is uncertain: It is possible that Marco Polo took it from China to Europe and that from there it came to Mexico when the Spaniards established here during the sixteenth Century. The symbolism that is present in the “piñatas” is very rich and these are the aspects that each element represents:

1 Patrocinios reposicionan a Jalisco como imán para el turismo // La estrategia emprendida por el gobierno de Emilio González Márquez para promocionar al Estado a través de patrocinios fue un acierto. Al respecto, Aurelio López Rocha, Secretario de Turismo de Jalisco, remarcó que los $ 401’670,000 de pesos erogados en este sexenio, a través de la partida Aportación a la Promoción Económica, son patrocinios, e hizo énfasis en que la estrategia funciona y debería tener seguimiento en la próxima administración, ya que durante este sexenio, el organismo encabezado por el funcionario hizo de los patrocinios una muy valiosa herramienta para promover a la entidad, para lo cual fue creada la partida de Aportación a la Promoción Turística de Jalisco, en un principio denominada Grandes Eventos. Asimismo, los eventos y las figuras destacadas fueron clave para posicionar a Jalisco como un destino turístico. Por ejemplo, para eventos como el Lorena Ochoa Invitational – auspiciado con un millón de dólares por edición– se firmaron convenios para hacer difusión de la imagen de Guadalajara en los spots del torneo que fueron transmitidos a nivel mundial.
1 Sponsorship resets Jalisco as a tourism magnet // The strategy undertaken by Emilio Gonzalez Marquez’s government to promote the state through sponsorship has been a hit. In this regard, Aurelio López Rocha, Jalisco’s Tourism Secretary, pointed out that the $401,670,000 pesos distributed during his administration, through the concept Contribution to Economic Development, come from sponsoring, and emphasized that the strategy works and should be continued in the next administration, since during this administration, the Secretary made sponsorship a very valuable tool for promoting the organization, for which was created the concept of Contribution to the Promotion of Tourism in Jalisco, initially called Major Events. Likewise, events and prominent celebrities were key aspects to position Jalisco as a tourist destination. // El Operativo Preventivo de Vacaciones Invernales 2012, presentado por Emilio González Márquez, Gobernador del Estado de Jalisco, incluye la participación de instancias estatales, dependencias federales y municipales para eficientar la prestación de servicios de emergencia a la población jalisciense. El operativo está en funcionamiento desde el pasado 12 de diciembre y concluye el 7 de enero de 2013 y su objetivo es proteger a la población ante posibles emergencias surgidas en dicho periodo. De esta forma, la Unidad Estatal de Protección Civil y Bomberos Jalisco montó un operativo a través de sus 10 bases regionales, con el apoyo de más de 200 oficiales y 60 vehículos, entre ambulancias, cuatrimotos, lan-

// Con el fin de difundir la oferta que tiene Mascota como punto turístico, la Oficina de Turismo Municipal de dicha entidad, a cargo de Elvia Margarita Rodríguez Fregoso, puso en marcha el proyecto llamado “Turisteando en…”, cuyo objetivo es fomentar una cultura de servicio al visitante y hacer del lugar un atractivo para los visitantes. La primera edición de este proyecto promueve la localidad de Cimarrón Chico, donde existe un interesante concepto de naturaleza que poca gente conoce. Este plan de trabajo busca realizarse hacer de manera bimestral, aunque también se ha planteado hacerlo mensualmente.

Los atractivos mencionados están ubicados a a 15 kilómetros al oriente de la cabecera municipal de Mascota, y se llega por el camino de huellas de asfalto Mascota-YerbabuenaCimarrón. El poblado se distingue por la tradicional bebida denominada Raicilla, por lo que es posible encontrar varias tabernas y conocer el proceso de elaboración. Así, los atractivos naturales, como el arroyo El Puerto, podrán ser más accesibles para el turista, quien también podrá conocer de cerca los productos de la región: bordados de Punto de Cruz, dulces de leche y ponches de frutas naturales, entre muchos más.
Mascota promotes its touristic charm
// In order to spread Mascota’s offer as a touristic spot, the Local Tourism Office in town, ran by Elvia Rodriguez Margarita Fregoso, launched the project called “Go sightseeing in ...”, which aims to promote a culture of touristic service and to make the town an attractive place for visitors. This project’s first edition promotes the town of Cimarrón Chico, where there is an interesting natural concept that few people know. This action plan is designed to be conducted every two months, even if a monthly plan has also been considered.
The sites mentioned are located 15 kilometers east of the main town of Mascota, and is reached by the asphalted road MascotaYerbabuena-Cimarrón.
