area three striking national parks and four Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the former being Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast and the latter Anglesey, the Clwydian Range, the Gower Peninsula and the Wye Valley. The Gower Peninsula was the first area in the whole of the United Kingdom to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in 1956. Wales’ also boasts not one but SIX UNESCO world heritage sites, including Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
and Canal, Blaenavon World Heritage Site, Caernarfon Castle, Harlech Castle, Beaumaris Castle and Conwy Castle. In fact, we have a total 641 castles throughout the country.
While English is also spoken throughout the country, our native language Welsh is the oldest language in Britain dating back possibly 4,000 years. It is celtic in origin and is spoken natively in Wales, by some along the Welsh border in England, and in Y Wladfa (the Welsh colony in Chubut Province, Argentina).
s A ‘Visit Britain’ poll showed overseas holidaymakers rank visiting castles in Wales as Britain’s top Must Do activity.
In 2013, visitors to travel website TripAdvisor voted Rhossili Bay, on the Gower Peninsula, the best beach in the UK. This helped it rank as the 3rd best beach in Europe and 10th worldwide.

Dylan Thomas 2014 is a big year for Thomas as we approach the centenary of his birth and our Dylan Thomas literary tour is the perfect way to experience this important time. Dylan Marlais Thomas is considered by many to be one of Wales’ greatest poets, and his lilting but sonorous voice becoming almost as famous as his writing. His major works include Under Milk Wood, a play and radio drama set in a fictitious Welsh fishing town, and the famous and moving villanelle for his dying father, “Do not go gentle into that good night”. Our tour will take in Swansea, Dylan’s place of birth, and Laugharne, a small coastal village that Thomas coined ‘the strangest town in Wales’. We will visit the house he was born, 5 Cwmdonkin Drive, and the theatre he sometimes performed in. In Laugharne we will visit the boathouse and writing shed where he used to work which offers breath-taking views of the Taf estuary and wonderful impressions of the Gower beyond.
Be inspired… Wales is a country of stunning scenery and undeniable charm. It has served as a muse for many famous writers including Wordsworth and Tolkien. Perhaps you want a chance to get in touch with your creative side and experience what Wales can do for your literary potential.

Culinary tours of Wales Culinary delights of South Wales Our ‘Culinary delights of South Wales’ tour has something for everyone; whether you have a sweet tooth or are hankering for something savoury, or whether you just want to learn more. This educational day trip supports local farms and independent businesses and will give you an insight into the processes behind some of Wales’ famous foodstuffs. We will travel to New Quay first to experience the New Quay Honey Farm which features a shop, tea-room and exhibition. As well as producing honey the farm produces mead, a sweet alcoholic drink made since the Middle Ages from honey. The exhibition, the largest of its kind in Wales, occupies the whole of the top floor of the old Chapel. We will have the chance to see bees working in a variety of natural habitats and also in manmade hives which open to show the mysteries of the bees’ nest. After this we will travel to nearby picturesque Aberaeron
and have a wander along the coast before stopping at Hive on the Quay, a highly commended modern British restaurant which specialises in locally caught fish, organic food and honey ice-cream. The Hive has been recognised in Rick Stein’s Food heroes Guide and by Henrietta Green, a British food expert.
Food trail of North Wales This tour of North Wales takes in traditional and contemporary Welsh food, including Llanbadrig Vineyard on the picturesque island of Angelsey, the award winning Derimon Smokery overlooking the eastern Dulas estuary the picturesque seaside resort of Criccieth, where you’ll have opportunity to sample Cadwalader’s ice cream and why not sample Aerona, the first aronia berry liqueur to be sold in the UK. Agricultural Tours of Wales Organic Farming and Biodiversity Wales features some stunning examples of diversified and modern farming that is totally in tune with the environment, and nestles amongst some amazing scenery. We can organise farm stays, workshops and visits during your trip to Wales.
Sheepfarming in Wales The topography of Wales lends itself to sheep farming and this activity has gone on for hundreds of years in all areas. Once it was for the quality of the wool produced but today it is mostly for the taste of the meat. A visit to a Welsh Sheep Farm will be particularly interesting for visitors from Australia and New Zealand but also for visitors who have a general interest in farming. There are several native breeds in Wales, some of which have become officially designated as ‘rare breeds’ and are receiving particular interest from enthusiasts wanting to re-establish breeds such as the Balwen, a black and white mountain type.
16
The most important friend the sheep farmer has is his dog. In Wales, where there are more sheep than people, great value is placed upon the skills of the Welsh Border Collie and his handler. Sheepdog trials are an enjoyable part of the annual calendar. A visit to an experienced breeder, handler and competitor is something never to be forgotten.
Wales is still a very rural country and can offer visitors a variety of experiences. Farming and all that is associated with it is still a way of life for many families all over the country. We can organise farmstays or include trips to these and agricultural events for you or your group.
Agricultural shows in Wales The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society was formed in 1904, and the first show was held in Aberystwyth in the same year. The Society has come a long way since those early days and the show has become an important event in the Welsh calendar. The four days is packed with all kinds of livestock, in competition and exhibition, displays, trade stands, retail stalls and entertainment. The permanent showground at Llanelwedd, near Builth Wells, which is set in the heart of the scenic Mid Wales countryside, was first used in 1963. A visit to this or any of the County Shows in Wales offers the tourist a real insight into rural life in Wales.
Welsh Ponies and Cobs The native British Breeds of horses and ponies are admired around the world and the Welsh breeds are renowned for their good looks, adaptability, character and temperament. A visit to a stud or a local show is a great way to see this wonderful selection of ponies and cobs. Come during the spring and summer to see new arrivals and stallions being prepared for shows and stud work. Attend a sale and witness the international perspective. Contact us directly or via the society to make arrangements for visits.
