Beacon Chicago Highrise and Habitat Studio Fall 2017 Hotel + Condominiums Chicago Team Project

2000 ft Tall mixed-use building on the site of Calatrava’s Spire in Streeterville Chicago. Including Office, Hotels and Condo. Simple and slim form that gradually tapers in the lower third of the building.

Watch the Animation!

The intermediate space between the two curtain walls in the south side of the building creates an optimal place for some semioutdoor balconies for the office floors. The outer skin helps as a rainscreen and wind barrier to provide a space with stable conditions that can be used most of the year.

The site is surrounded on three sides by Chicago river and lake Michigan. It includes a restaurant, green space and an outdoor amphitheater. The reception, lobbies and retail spaces are located on the first floor. In the site, paths have been implemented to connect the river walk and the biking route to the site for better use and connectivity.

The main Amenity space is located at the intersection of hotel floors and residential floors and works as a vertical plaza inside the tower. It creates spaces with different functionalities like fitness center, groceries and green areas. This zone is accessible by both residents and hotel guests and is designed to bring people together and create a more social and lively place in the building.

During my graduate assistantship in the fabrication shop at the University of Illinois, I tried to experiment with different machines including CNC Router and 3d printer and figure out the limitations of the machines and softwares associated with them. I also experimented with different materials and did studies on making the workflow more efficient.

Internet Archive Tectonics of the immaterial Fall 2018 Library+Archive+Coworking Toronto Team Project (w/ Nico Hsu) Earl Prize Winner

Internet Archive is a physical manifestation of internet, but it can be so much more than a server farm. Due to the growing number of freelancers and coworking enthusiasts, in this project we tried to create a new working experience for coworking and freelancers. With juxtaposition of building programs from a traditional building point to a new order where the program immitates a residence, we encourage freelancers to feel more at home and work in a variety of different environments suited best for them.

Tree Home Archon Studio Spring 2018 House Mount Baker, WA Individual Project Archon Prize Winner

The intent of this studio is to design a 1000sqft ‘home’ by designer’s definition of home. And design and build a piece of furniture that belongs to that home. My design is two treehouses that are joined together in the middle and create a hirarchy of living spaces. The organic geometry of spaces help the building stand out while blending in with the surroundings.

The Chair The designed chair shares the same principles in geometry as the house with complex joints and organic curves. It was built using Walnut and Cherry combination of woods and is carved using lathe and angle-grinder.

Rehab Institute of Chicago Integrative Design Studio Spring 2017 Healthcare Chicago Team Project Earl Prize Nominee

The RIC hospital in Chicago is a rehabilitation hospital and serves patients that need rehabilitation and therapy. It is also a great opportunity for us to learn the principles of tall buildings and healthcare building design. The main concern in this studio is to design with a comprehensive look on all aspects of the project and design the best solution for the client and the patients.

Some of the ideas for the design of this building are to use curtain walls with photo-voltaic spandrels in the southern facade to take advantage of the sun, have a clear glass open area on the north east side that has the view of the Lake Michigan and green spaces, have the podium of the building the same color theme and look as the surrounding buildings, continue the green space in SOLAR ANALYSIS (SUMMER front of RADIATION the building into our MONTHS) site and even inside the lobby, and provide every patient room with great views and natural light.

School of Music Final Design Studio Spring 2016 Shiraz University Educational Shiraz, Iran Solo Project

Design of a School of Music is more than just floors, walls and ceilings. You have to capture the essence of music. You have to design so that the spaces can transfer this feeling to people. I tried to create multiple social places not only for the students and faculty but also for public to bring people closer to music.

Since the project is located in Iran, there are influences of Iranian architecture on the building. To name a few, There is a central courtyard with the ideas of Persian garden in the middle and there are columned porticoes present in the design which are some of the features of Persian Architecture. The use of brick and stained glasses also brings out the essence of the architecture of Iran. 1
