Tall building Hospital Professor Kim 1 Semester Revit, Vray for Revit, Photoshop Group Work

The RIC hospital in Chicago is a rehabilitation hospital and serves patients that need rehabilitation and therapy. It is also a great opportunity for us to learn the principles of tall buildings and healthcare building design. The main concern in this studio is to design with a comprehensive look on all aspects of the project and design the best solution for the client and the patients. This project was originally done by Gensler Chicago and they are helping us as clients of the project in this studio.

Some of the ideas for the design of this building are to use curtain walls with photo-voltaic spandrels in the southern facade to take advantage of the sun, have a clear glass open area on the north east side that has the view of the Lake Michigan and green spaces, have the podium of the building the same color theme and look as the surrounding buildings, continue the green space in front of the building into our site and even inside the lobby, and provide every patient room with great views and natural light. Shopping Mall Professors Sheibani & Fallah 1 Semester Autocad + 3Ds Max + Photoshop Individual work

In this project we were asked to design a shopping mall in a 30000 square meter site adjacent to a mountain. This mall contains Retail stores ,Super market ,Hyper market ,Food court ,Bank ,several coffee shops and two cinemas. The aim for this design studio was to understand and work with irregular and fluid forms and structural systems associated with them. My design takes advantage of natural light in all different levels and from a wide range of windows and entrances. Since the site for this project is adjacent to a mountain. My design is developed parallel to the mountain. So the building is facing the street. By having a huge amount of glass areas, this design receives natural light in all the spaces, from the front windows and also the window on the roof. The structural system used in this building is 3D-truss for the roof structure and regular frame structure to hold the different floors.

Individual work

In this design studio, we were asked to design a cultural center where people would gather to teach, learn, observe and view art work, an auditorium where movies or concerts could take place and there also would be a place to eat. The site of this project is located at the corner of a park so it would attract both pedestrians in the park and people on the street.

“The mountains are intimations of transcendence, which he is now free to pursue, and the walking writes messages in every cell of his body, telling him that he is not locked inside a cement box, nor in a water drum, but is moving forward.” -Michael D. O’Brien A mountain is the symbol of strength and sometimes it’s the symbol of obstacle and climbing it is the way to advance to the top and overcome the obstacle. A cultural center is a place where people attend to make themselves better, learn new things and exceed to new levels. So my idea was to depict this notion in the form of my building and literally allow people to climb to the top of it. Since it’s located in a park, the building’s exterior has become a part of the park and it would attract people to climb the stairs to the top and maybe eat something at the cafe at the top. Also bees are insects that always work as a society and they live and work in a beehive, so since a cultural center is meant to bring people together I used different sizes of hexagons in different areas my design.

Basically my design consists of four zones. The middle zone is the common area where people can meet or wait for their friends. They can access upper levels which include cafe and restaurants. There is a zone for the auditorium and the common area works as a barrier to isolate sound to ensure silence in the educational and gallery zones. There is a set of stairs in the middle of the educational zone which goes to the painting atelier on the next floor. The classrooms all have a sink at their disposal due to their nature of being flexible to hold classes like pottery or chemistry. The structural system for this building is a regular frame structure which is very common in Iran. So it’s relatively cheap to construct and there is no need of specially trained workers.

Educational Zone

Auditorium

Gallery

Since my design is located in a corner of a park and it is seen from all the sides, I’ve designed two doors, one facing the park and another one facing the intersection of the streets. I’ve also designed a separate door opening into the educational zone so students and instructors can use that door without the need to go through other areas first. There’s also another door that opens on the second floor, where there is a café where people can walk up the exterior stairs and use that door to get inside.

As it is seen in the gallery, the interior of my design has the essence of the exterior. There’s a sense of unity in there. Details follow the same instructions as the form. So the use of hexagons in the interior, the ceiling, the floor, the columns and basically everything is an indication that this module is propagated through the facade to make a whole, which is the same as every single bit.

The Path

Urban Spaces Analysis, 2015

This project was aimed to widen our vision to find lost spaces in our city. To do this, we grouped up and looked for different spaces that have been left unused and turned into eye sores and develop and design those urban spaces into usable and aesthetically pleasing places. My group consisted of Hamzeh Heydari, Hesam Mohammadi and of course, me. My contribution to the team was brainstorming, designing and mostly the 3d visualization. We selected a special site in our city, a river which is dry through more than 9 months of the year (aerial photo on the next page). There is a dam on the river and we took advantage of that to keep some of the water that is stored over time and since we don’t have access to seas in our city, we designed a nice place where people could enjoy the water. There are also places to eat meals, galleries to view art works and spend some time. Then We expanded our design and planned a pedestrian walking and running route. This path starts at the near mountains where we designed spaces to walk and enjoy the view and it advances to the other side of the river and at the end it reaches a park. There’s also an old Persian garden with an old facade on the route for the observers who might be interested to visit.

Phase 1: The Mountain Walk

This design was divided into three parts or phases. Phase 1 is the mountain watch where people start their walking trip, and there are parkings for people to drive there. Phase 2 is the most important phase where people can enjoy the water and have breakfast. It will also become an urban landmark due to its looks and size. Phase 3 is a route to walk in the middle of jungle-like gardens and it ends in Park Golha.

School of Music Professor Nikkar 1 Semester Revit, Lumion 3d, 3ds Max, Photoshop Individual work

Design of a School of Music is more than just floors, walls and ceilings. You have to capture the essence of music. You have to design so that the spaces give transfer this feeling to people. Here, I was given the opportunity to choose my own subject of design. Due to lack of music schools in Iran and specially in my city, and of course my love to music, I chose to design a school of music for Shiraz University. I tried to create multiple social places not only for the students and faculty but also for public to bring people closer to music.

Designing a multi functional Auditorium for the school with 400 seats and an orchestra pit to work as a usable auditorium not only for Shiraz University but the whole city.

EDUCATIONAL SEMI-EDUCATIONAL OFFICES ATRIUM AUDITORIUM BACKSTAGE SERVICES/SUPPORT

Since the project is located in Iran, there are some influences of Iranian architecture such as central courtyard or columned portico present in my design and I also take advantage of brick as a commonly used materials in Iran.

Elementary School Professors Khorasani Zade & Zakeri 1 Semester Revit +Autocad + Photoshop+ Lumion

Individual work

In this project we were asked to design an elementary school. The school had to contain 12 classrooms, 2 for each grade. We also had to design a gym, a small library and a lab for this school. What we had to struggle with was good circulation, good and sufficient natural lighting for all the spaces and an overall sense of identity. Lighting is one of the most important factors in a well-designed class room, and since southern lighting is the best and most efficient lighting in Iran, and most of the school year is in the winter and fall when it’s colder and sun has a shorter path in the sky, I had to consider lighting very carefully. To ensure impeccable lighting for all the classrooms, my design is in two floors, where each floor contains 6 classrooms and they all receive the southern light. Other areas like the gym or the library which use artificial lighting and are less of a priority for lighting are designed on the other side. Class Rooms Facilities (gym, lab, Library) Offices
