SOULSTICE THE DESIRE FOR SIMPLICITY
PERFORMANCE ART° WORSHOP – LAB 8 de julio de 2017 Last Frontier, NYC Simplicity isn’t just a visual style. It’s not just minimalism or the absence of clutter. It involves digging through the depth of complexity. To be truly simple, you have to go really deep. You have to deeply understand the essence of a product in order to be able to get rid of the parts that are not essential. —Jony Ive
“The line between art and life should be kept as fluid and perhaps indistinct, as possible .” ~Atlan Kaprow
BODY AS PSYCHOLOGICAL PROCESSING FIELD BODY | SPACE | MOVEMENT | PRESENCE Memory keeps alive in the body/to/body by means of those who decide not to forget from what we see; we are many that we choose to remember. Finding ways of connecting with the body, releasing it and transforming it into a flexible instrument to give expressiveness to a determined poetic action, to delve into the very entrails of metaphor as a space of subversion & freedom. Workshop laboratory of theoretical and experiential nature, we will investigate around the body as a work support, inserted and inserted in public spaces, modifying them and being modified by actions that intervene producing a (dis)velopment of the forces that operate there. Micro political actions that can reveal the permits and prohibitions that each social role possesses in each determined temporal-spatial context. We also have to reflect from our own experiences, the product of experiential exercises, as well as based on photographic records and videos of works by different artists of Performance Art and Urban Interventions. WHAT DOES HAPPEN WHEN THE PERSON MEETS THE PERFORMER? In performance nothing is fixed, everything is in continuous transformation, just as performance has no fixed address, has neither theory, nor technique, or fixed practice. It is the open work par excellence. The fundamental elements from which we will work will be the concepts of presence, time and space. We will create images and activate them. We will transform the image or sculpture into poetic action. What type of text is derived from that image, from that poetic action? Through praxis, we understand that performance is not a simple illustration of any meaning that its intention is not to say but to make feel. That refuses all speech. The workshop will emphasize the relationship of the body to SPACE/TIME & vice versa. The body is an extension of space & space as an extension of the body. How to construct a poetic action? From where to build it? How to give life to the personal concerns of existencial idol (politics, autobiography, etc.) The concrete and precise body as a vehicle of maximum authenticity. Construction of images & metaphors. The text and the word as a result of a present body. To deepen the knowledge of our creative individuality. Discover what we really want to talk about when we create. What thematic or what drives us to create. How to do things with words.

To deal with public spaces is, first and foremost, to talk about control devices and management of the bodies; both of the relations of the subjects to each other, as well as to themselves.

To control people's lives there is nothing more effective than controlling the use of their time. And for this it was necessary to organize it, to fragment it in an ordered way in units of time: seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and years. To convert the transit of life and its multiple ways of experiencing it in a "unique and correct way of living"; In a single time; With endings and beginnings common to all subjects. But to deny the differences is to deny one's own possibilities for development and expansion, thus denying one's own capacity to produce other realities possessed by the different communities and the beings that conform them. If there is only one reality, which controls it, produces it and disseminates it? What are the symbolic production’s devices of reality used for this? It is necessary that we learn to discover within ourselves which are these devices that will allow us to produce realities, not from a
univocal knowledge (a single version), but from the multi-universe, using poetry as a creative tool of everyday life and respecting the poetics of the other beings that cohabit this world. In performance nothing is fixed, everything is in continuous transformation, just as performance has no fixed address, has neither theory, nor technique, nor fixed practice. It is the open work par excellence. The fundamental elements from which we will work will be the concepts of presence, time and space. We will create images and activate them. We will transform the image of sculpture into poetic action. What type of text is derived from that image, from that poetic action. Through praxis, we understand that performance is not a simple illustration of any meaning. Its intention is not to say but to make feel. That refuses all speech. The workshop will emphasize the relationship of the body to Space-Time &vice versa. The body as an extension of space & space as an extension of the body. If fragility is the condition of my rage, it is also the condition of feminism & radical politics itself: both of its emergence & its ability to endure as a political project. It is the resistance of the crowd & the hardness of the institutions that do not fit that bruise us & sometimes shatter us. Of course, some of us try to bend ourselves backwards to move forward within these institutions, by turning ourselves into willing & resilent participants, but this very process may just reveal the misfits that we are. Fidgeting makes you look out of place & remains you that you are not supposed to be there in the first place. Or we could not move at all, & remain in place by never entering spaces we are not supposed to be. I say that demands made of us-to stop making a fuss, to get along, to get over it, to put up with it-turn out to be a moral technology, a technology of governance. The onus is placed on those who are being bruised – who are seen as hysterical, emotional, irrational, damaged, broken- and not on that which is bruising. The fragile, broken, shattered bodies that are a consequence of structures become the causes of pain to which they are subjected.
Urban space is the scene of inequalities, but it is also a kind of language that makes these inequalities reproduce, our body and mind assimilate what they see and perceive in space for us, take a step beyond diagnosing, analyzing And see what the differences in spaces is fundamental. We make proposals because we want to change society through the modification of spaces. We believe that space has a determining role as a social reformer and as creator of realities. When you realize that to produce you need to obtain authorization from those who produce nothing; when you prove that money flows to those who do not trade with goods but with favors; when you perceive that many are made rich by bribery and by influences more than by their work, and that the laws do not protect you against them but, on the contrary, it is they who are protected against you, when you discover that corruption is rewarded and honesty becomes a self-sacrifice, then you can affirm, without being mistaken, that society is condemned Ayn Rand (1950)
