HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM SPATIAL MODEL OF THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE HISTORIC CITY CENTER OF KRASNODAR What is the center of Krasnodar city today? There are about 300 of 505 monuments of history and architecture, 30% of places of employment and social attraction points - public spaces, administration, cafes, markets and many others. The main traffic flow of daily labor migration and transit passes along the center and partly through it. At the same time, this is the most expensive land provided with public transport and the most attractive for life. With the existing density, only 9% of the population can be accommodated in the city center, but in fact, no more than 3% live here. The current situation with the impetuous development of the city makes one wonder - should not we turn to the source of development of Krasnodar - to its historical center? The place, which for a long time was the whole city, was rebuilt and expanded many times until the final transition to the district paradigm. It is a common misconception that ÂŤbuilding compactionÂť is impossible in practice, that there is simply no place to build and live in the center. But if we analyze what buildings are there now, it turns out that more than 90% (!) are dilapidated buildings in an emergency condition and individual one-two floors houses. It is difficult to agree with the assumption that these houses should form the modern look of Krasnodar.

AND

PLANNING

Architectural monuments [red] - 1%, historical valuable buildings [orange] - 2%, new valuable buildings [green] - 3%, not valuable buildings [gray and blue] - 94%.

The value of the city center is not only buildings, including monuments of architecture and history, it is not its location or its richness of functions. The value of the center is the sum of all the qualities which should be used as a basis but not an obstacle for development.

It is very important to understand that center is a living and active part of a city. Besides, we should not allow, basing on prejudices and outdated urban planning practices, to turn Krasnodar into a museum or a cemetery. Rituals and habits should not become more important than citizens’ life.

HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

Current model - chaotic buildings - no engineering networks - meaningless strong regulations - terrible traffic jams - village with 2 millions citizens

Suggestion + blocking buildings by a firewall + reduction of the maximum normative indicators + cancellation of high-altitude regulations + the characteristics of the building are based on economic feasibility, capacity of engineering networks, remoteness from transport

3 000 - 6 000 sq.m. of living space per hectare 120 - 270 persons per hectare

15 000 - 30 000 sq.m. of living space per hectare 650 - 1200 persons per hectare

THE SAME, BUT BETTER THE ‘HOUSEMENT’ RECIPE Where do the most of the people imagine themselves living the dream? Probably, in a big rich private house near with anything they can want anytime. There are children in the beautiful garden playing outside. The bests shops, cafes, theaters are just around the corner. But is it possible to combine advantages of a private house and living in the city center? Yes! Write down the recipe: * 2 bedrooms * 2 bathrooms * 1 living room * 1 kitchen * several wardrobe rooms * greens to taste Mix bedrooms, bathrooms, living room and kitchen until big private house. Then separate to two floors, remove the roof and shift a little the top floor aside. Add greens to taste. Make about 20-30 (optional) houses like this, then put on one to another step by step. Find a great place in the city center with all activities near, put there your dish. Also, you can add extra bedrooms or another room to create a bigger private house. Congratulations! Now you have a concept that solves the dilemma between individualized housing and population density. See step by step photos

THE ART DIMENSION PERCEPTION OF ART AS TIME Thinking about art and its components a little bit deeper, than usual, we can find out that art has several dimentions like past, present and future just like time has. So what else do they have in common? And how does ‘time’ fit into the museum shapes? The Past smoothly lays on the existing relief, repeating every bend - the past is invariable, it is already ‘digested’. The curved rectangular shape in the plan symbolizes a sheet of paper - a page of history. At this level of the building there is a museum, here we can see what was created. In the intermediate ‘bodiless’ level the present is happening, people are playing by the water, performing in the theater and on the open stage. Here comes now. The upper floor is a clean page - the future. Here adults and children are engaged in various creative workshops. Generating new ideas, people from different disciplines communicate with each other and share their experience. In this level, which contacts to the zero mark of the building, we see what will be created. The underground part of the building [the past] and the aboveground [the future] intersect with each other only by one side - the vestibule [the present]. Entering the building we are between three times and are free to explore all of them. If you do understand nothing, see pictures

THE CAPITAL OF TRAFFIC JAMS HIGH-SPEED ROADS IN KRASNODAR Our Bureau did a comprehensive research of current situation with terrible traffic jams in Krasnodar to do the motorway system project for improving the efficiency of the Krasnodar transport hub and connecting it to the country’s road network. We calculated how many people live in different districts of the Krasnodar city and agglomeration, where do they work and rest, which roads do they use to get their workplace and other attractors. There are about 2 million people in Krasnodar and agglomeration. Almost 250,000 vehicles migrate daily to the city center and back through narrow roads of the historical city center, so every day there is a traffic catastrophe in Krasnodar. According to our and other research, we discovered that the best way to solve this problem is paid motorway network which will allow reducing a load of regular streets by absorbing transit and daily work migration. The reserve territories of railways and inefficient territories are the strategic reserve of the city for the development of infrastructure facilities. Fortunately. this project is already under construction.
