“My desire to be recognized as an artist as opposed to a designer or sculptress alone has been a driving factor in my work. As a result, much of my work is three-dimensional and uses the technological aspects of graphic design as a tool to communicate my message in addition to the influences of sculpture. Nevertheless, I favor minimalistic appearance and it is often the incorporation of negative space that allows for a more complex dimensional analysis without creating, for lack of a better word, a mess. The fine arts influence of sculpture is a heavy influence in my installation work, as reflected in its lack of the stereotypical commercial appearance of graphic design. I want the simplicity and appeal of design to draw people into my work while the chosen material works to convey my overall message. My graphic design experience is nevertheless apparent in every detail of my work, especially font and color, which grabs the attention of the audience while reflecting the modern influence of my work. As an artist, I straddle the line between sculpture and graphic arts, appealing to the client, the basic audience, and the art world. Regardless of where I lie, I desire to take the design to a level of more complex physicality expressed through my threedimensional work.�
KINKY CURLY LLC Kinky-Curly LLC is an all natural hair care product line for kinky, curly, wavy hair. This business set, as well as, redesigned logo consists of a business card, a foldable letterhead, and a custom-designed envelope created for the company. This ‘psychedelic’ set uses the redesigned logo and features an “afro” envelope and an interactive “afro pick” business card and letterhead.
CALYPSO Calypso beverages are sold individually and feature a wide variety of flavors and colors. The concept behind this re-design was to focus on an overall unified look. A pentagonal container was constructed that was made up of five triangular compartments. Each compartment housed a triangular glass bottle. When closed, the container had a small star shaped hole in the middle in which the sixth bottle fit perfectly into. When opened, the container formed a single line of compartments that openly displayed the flavors and the company slogan.

FLAG BOOK
A flag book created through studying various book binding techniques.
VOTE FOR ANIKA STRAND A campaign created for Union University’s Student Government Association. The campaign consisted of a poster designed for the candidate, along with a button and guerilla marketing concept based off of the candidate’s last name “Strand”. The guerilla marketing installation included a 4 by 4 foot string and nail board.
SOCIAL CAUSE POSTER
A social cause poster created for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to combat against factory farming. The poster and logo are made from painted tissue paper to mimic the illustration style of Eric Carle (author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar). The text read: “ Old Macdonald Had A Farm... Until it was taken over by a big corporation. No longer able to roam or graze, animals were confined for days and days Gone were their times in pastures green, instead they were subjected to torturous things.�
