DESIGN INTENTIONS Due to the high demographic growth projected in the zone of Valle Oriente, we intend to create a permeable city with a minimal footprint, yet not loosing habitable space. Develop shaded areas within the city, to encourage people to walk through open spaces and reduce the traffic problems that soffocate the city. Propose a radical approach towards a new sustainable business center in the city of Monterrey.

RESEARCH In order to fulfill our design approach we decided to study the tropical forest. Forest development The forest is developed by different types of trees which dimensions are modified and regulated by external factors such as proximity among each others and sun exposure. By these morphological differences a permeable ecosystem is created and different species are allowed to grow and cohabitate in different environments within the same space.

Forest Communication Communicacion in the forest is efficiently developed by a branchig system from tree to tree that eases the way through the forest and shortens the distance between them optimizing transportation in different levels.

CONCEPT From the development of the forest, we are intending to create an urban system whose morphology evolves and adapts to parameters such as proportional composition and sun exposure, in order to create an eco-friendly business center.

CONCEPT -tree structure

-minimum footprint

-conections within the entire ecosystem that allow easy circulation

-circulation on different levels

-different life on all canopy layers

-variation of spacial characteristics depending on level

LOTIFICATION LOGIC MINIMAL PATH SYSTEM

Minimum distance to communicate point “A” to “B” from point “C”

minimum length

The diagrams represent different bifurcation systems depending on the position of point “D”.

Rationalization of space from a grid to optimize circulation. The system generates efficient communication between spaces and proposes a new distribution system developed by its circulation.

LOTIFICATION PROCESS

1. Rationalization of the grid in the site. Optimization of the mega-block circulation by joining the midpoint of every spacial boundary.

2. Connection to the centroid of the main bifurcations to obtain the minimal path between them.

3. Connection between the centroids to the closest point of the main avenues.

4. Branching optimization and final lotification.

TYPOLOGICAL EVOLUTION 1. Creating a regular typology with the site alignments and the morphologycal proportion of a tree. upper surface : height = 3: 5

2. Generating a minimal footprint from the fifth part of its lot.

3. Evolving into a slender shape with more structural stability and self-shading properties.

4. Morphological evolution with aerodynamic properties.

5. Center void for a lighting optimization and stack effect.

SURFACE AREA VS. HEIGHT

ITERATIONS SUN EXPOSURE INSOLATION : MIN height : low density : low

INSOLATION : AVERAGE height : average density : high

INSOLATION : HIGH height : high density : very high

The upper surface responds to a solar stimuli, in this iteration the diagram shows volumes with both low density and height.

The upper surface in this iteration shows self shading between buildings and average density

In this iteration the diagram shows volumes overlapping and over shading in the context.

The height differenciation and the upper circulation layers allow the ground level to develop as a forest that surrounds the project. The intention for the lanscape designing is to have two layers of different types of vegetation. The inner layer responds to a proximity to the buildings and the outer layer responds to urban necessities such as sound proofing.

CIRCULATION

The circulation is developed in two different layers that respond to distance and slope constrains. The resulting conections generate the program clusters by comunicating a group of buildings with a close distance.

PROGRAM DIFFERENCIATION The typology evolves into a living cell system that responds to its architectural program. The diagram show the commerce program with bigger shells for indoor activities.

The business program shows a planar shell for lighting purposes

The residencial program shows an uncapped shell to provide a terrace for bigger apartments
