REDESIGN
2 WEEK FURNITURE COURSE FALL 2017
THE ASSIGNMENT WAS TO REDESIGN A WELL KNOW PIECE OF FURNITURE. THE CONCEPT WAS BASED OFF OF ALVAR AALTOS TEA TROLLEY AND TURNING THAT INTO A PIECE THAT COULD BE USED IN A SMALL SPACE ALSO FOR ENTERTAINING.
KEPT THE FRONT PROPORTION OF 901 AND THE 900 TEA TROLLEY.
FOR THE SIDE PROPORTION ADDED HALF OF THE ORIGINAL HEIGHT TO ALLOW FOR A TALLER HEIGHT APPROPRIATE FOR A BAR
FOR THE WIDTH PROPORTION I KEEP IT THE SAME BUT INCLUDED THE WHEEL THICKNESS TO BE PART OF THE NEW PROPORTION.
I KEPT THE TOP PROPORTION FOR THE SERVING AREA TO ALLOW FOR A RANGE OF HOSTING NEEDS
1’ 2 1/2”
9 1/4”
10 1/2”
2’ 81/4” 10 3/4” 1’ 3 1/4”
1’ 6 1/4”
2’ 8”
3/4”
1’ 0 1/2”
2’ 11”
MY SOLUTION WAS THE FOLLOWING SEEING THE NEED FOR A PIECE THAT COULD BE USED TO ENTERTAIN BUT ALSO WAS SMALL AND WOULD NOT DISRUPT THE SPACE IF A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE WERE PRESENT WHEN THE CART WAS IN THE SPACE. I DID THIS THROUGH KEEPING THE WIDTH PROPORTIONS THE SAME ALONG WITH THE LENGTH AND ADDING ON TO THE HEIGHT TO WORK BETTER FOR SERVICING. THE DESIGN CAN HOLD FOUR TO FIVE BOTTLES OF LARGE LIQUOR AND FOUR TO FIVE BOTTLES OF SMALL LIQUOR ON THE BOTTOM SHELVES. THE TOP SHELVES HOLD 6 WHISKEY GLASSES AND 6 WINE GLASSES OR CHAMPAGNE FLUTES. THE TOP CAN BE USED FOR OTHER NEEDS FOR THE HOST. WITH ITS FLAT SURFACE IT CAN HOLD ANYTHING FROM LARGER BOTTLES, TO MIXERS TO WINE GLASS TAGS. I KEPT THE DESIGN SIMPLE SO THE BEAUTY OF THE BOTTLES COULD CONTRIBUTE TO THE COLOR OF THE PIECE. I IMAGINE THIS PIECE FITTING IN A HALL, BY THE END OF SEATING, ALONG A WALL OR PULLED UP NEXT TO A TABLE.
