About Me I grew up in a small suburban town in Clermont country called Milford and went to Milford Highschool. I am a second-year student at the University of Cincinnati but the first year in urban planning. I originally went to The University of Cincinnati branch campus called UC Blue ash for exploratory and then decided that I wanted to transfer to the main campus because I already lived in Clifton. During my time a UC Blue ash I took a class that helped exploratory students figure out what exactly they wanted to do. For the final project in the class, we had to review all the majors that the University of Cincinnati offered and two of my favorite majors were Environmental Science and Architecture. I brought this up to my academic advisor and he said I would possibly be interested in urban planning. When I did my research on the major, I knew it was for me. It had everything I loved and felt very passionate about. When I was younger, I would play video games where you could create your towns, cities, theme parks, and more and I would always daydream about creating cities and having an impact on the world. My goals, while I am in the urban planning major, is to get a bachelor’s degree in urban planning and minor in Real Estate and come back to the University Of Cincinnati to acquire a Master’s Degree in Community Planning. My main goal is to leave the University with enough knowledge to be able to leave my mark on the world. 3

Analysis Mapping In the Analysis Mapping project, we were asked to create analytical maps at an urban scale and to focus on a certain part of the map.
This is an analysis map of the University of Cincinnati that highlights the pavement, roads, and sidewalks of campus in black.

This is an analysis map of the University of Cincinnati that highlights the buildings of the campus. This helps me better understand how you are able to highlight areas of maps while leaving other features out.
Thematic Map In the Infographic project, we were asked to create a graphic that can focus on the thematic topic while informing the viewer about the topic. In the Infographic I created I chose four crimes to represent in my second version of the thematic map which are sexual assault, assault, theft, and traffic stops. I created it to look like steps with the bottom being petty crimes and the top is a severe crime. My final Thematic Map represents crime on campus. The reason I chose to do this was to bring attention to this topic and to figure out if crime on the University Of Cincinnati’s campus is worse then we think. For the map, I have plotted out the four major crimes which are sexual assault, assault, theft, and traffic stops. To the right of the map, my infographic can show the percentages of crime on the campus while also doubling as a legend. Below my map and infographic are three hand-drawn photos that are linked to the exact locations they represent. In the hand-drawn photos, it shows where crimes occurred color-coded to match my infographic. Below my sketches show four solutions to this problem. Two of the solutions are institutional and two of them are student solutions. My finding is that the University of Cincinnati’s crime has gone down over the years and it is very comparable to over colleges in Ohio which put us in a middle-ranking. 7

In this map of English Woods, I am showing the slope percentages from 0% to 58% while also showing the percentages of other areas. I have also included the roadways, buildings, rivers, and railroads to give more of a perspective on how slope can relate to building and planning.

In this Analysis map of English Woods, I have created a Soil information map to show the different types of soil in the area to understand what can and cannot be built on these. I have also included the roadways and buildings of the surrounding areas to give more of a perspective on where this is located and what is near.

Work In SketchUp

In the SketchUp project, we were asked to create various scenes that will help improve the second version of our thematic map. I have Six screenshots of areas that can show where crime on campus is more common. My take away from these projects was a better understanding of how SketchUp works, How to measure heights in google earth, and then implement that into SketchUp and how to create a new building in SketchUp.
Work In SketchUp
For the Rendering with Vray in SketchUp project, we were asked to do two renders on buildings or areas that we could use in the second version of the thematic map. I chose two very common areas for the crime which are the dormitory in the Northeastern part of the campus. I have learned how to use Vray in this project which included lighting, reflections, noise/grass, how to put trees in, and how to choose an angle that gives you the best view. 11

To help us get more of a feel of our neighborhood our project was to create a sensibility map on the area. In this map, it shows how sound can travel from 4:30 and 6:00 PM to figure this out I walked and drove the neighborhood and cemetery. 12
To get more in the mindset of what our neighborhood consists of we were asked to create a wordle for our area. In this wordle, we split it into two because the village is split down the middle from a Cemetary. The left side shows words for the Cemetary while the right side shows words for the neighborhood.

While Studying Spring Grove Village for a few months we chose the greatest Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and threats and then showed these in a map. The map was used to give a visual on the Opportunities like large green spaces, areas for new businesses, public entrances, community center location, and safety improvements while the largest and only threat we saw was the noise from the railroad and highway. 13

In the Analysis Maps Of Spring Grove Project, my Partner and I created three different Maps for spring grove the first one being a linkage map that can show the walking distance which is equal to 5 minutes in each circle and also shows the types of roadways. The second map shows the land use of spring grove which goes into six different categories which are agriculture, Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Publicly owned, and public utilities. The final Map is showing a building footprint and roadway footprint of Spring Grove Village. The main features of this map are the buildings, green spaces, roadways, and Mill Creek. All of these maps were created on ArcGis

In our typologies project, the class was asked to choose a section of our assigned neighborhood and create five different images showing these typologies. The first one was a figure-ground map that shows the area of study, the next one is to create a 3D model that I color-coded to show these buildings as industrial. The next task was to create a street model that shows the sizes of these buildings and shows that they are industrial and our last task was to create two different cross-sections showing how the area would look if one was standing in the road. 15

Plan For Spring Grove
Site Project on Clifton Ave.
In our final project for Spring Grove, we were asked to create a plan for Spring Grove based on the problems and opportunities we identified earlier in the semester. I planned to bring more local businesses in by creating a space for a business to be built at by doing this it would bring more people to the area and it would also help spring groves economy. As seen above there was a largely unused space near the river which could be a great spot for a restaurant in which I created the footprint and cross-section in illustrator to show the size of the building. I then went into Sketch up a created a 3D model of this building that would be able to show the size and how it fits in the area which is shown at a 1=20 FT

Writing sample As a transfer student before I was accepted I was asked to write why I wanted to be in urban design and here is what I wrote . While I’ve been at UC BlueAsh as an undecided student I have researched many majors at the main campus and branch campuses. I went to my advisor with environmental studies and architecture as my top two majors. When my advisor saw this he recommended me to research urban planning because he thought it would spark my interest. As soon as I read about what this major is about I became obsessed with understanding all parts of it because when I was younger I would dream about creating my cities, towns, and neighborhoods due to the video games I played and where I grew up. I have always been very interested in Art, throughout high school I would take as many art classes as possible because I was so passionate in understanding as many forms of it as I could. While I was doing this I never was able to figure out what exactly I wanted to do with art until now. I believe that this would be the best option for me because it has everything I want and everything I want to be. I believe that I would be a good fit for this major because of my background in art and the passion I already have for this major. I want to become an urban planner because I am very interested in the map-making process, I am very passionate about the environment and I want to leave my mark on the world by making our cities, towns, and neighborhoods a better place to live in and have a family in.
