What are Consignment Shops and How to Use them The market scenario currently has made shoppers wary of useless spending and therefore they are always looking for bargains and sales. This has also resulted in the rise of consignment shops Bay Area. These shops work in many ways, allowing you to make money from your old items. Right from clothes to furniture and sports equipment; you can sell anything under the sun if it is in a good condition. You will find a number of interesting things being sold at consignment shops and therefore it attracts a high number of shoppers.

There are basically two ways in which consignment shops work; upfront payment or profit sharing. Both the methods have their own pros and cons and not all the consignment shops offer both these options. When it comes to upfront payment, an employee of the store will rummage through your items and determine whether it can be resold at the shop. Usually there is a predetermined fixed price for items, for example, $10 for shoes, $10 for bags, $5 for shirts etc. Once the items are collected, the total is added up and the owner is either given cash money or store credit. You should note that the store credit is usually higher as it helps to keep the money in-house. If the consignment shop is offering profit sharing, you won’t receive any money or store credit. Instead you will get an account number and all your items will be tagged with that account number. The shop attendant will tag your items according to what he feels is a fair price and the items are put out for sale. As the items are sold, the profits are shared according to the agreement made before the sale. You can then collect your share in cash or in-store credit.
