HONEST ED’S Price’s Fun Palace? Third year Design Studio ARC314H1 Professor Aziza Chaouni January - May 2014

This project reimagines Honest Ed’s retail experience in in relation to thrift stores in the surrounding neighbourhood. Honest Ed’s, once the jewel that supplied cheap bargains at the corner of Bloor and Bathrust has deteriorated over the years, its unique signage that once promised for a fun shopping experience no longer reflects its dull fixated interior. In hopes of solving this problem, this design aims to revitalize Honest Ed’s back to its former glory by implementing movable pods.

The pods in the design move vertically and act as floor plates that could be adjusted to meet the desired rent space thrift owners desire. Ultimately creating a flexible relationship between UFA and GFA. Much like an adaptation of Cedric Price’s Fun Palace. THIS PAGE Concept Diagram THAT PAGE New Honest Ed’s GF Plan

MA. KIT Is this a toy? Third year Design Studio ARC321H1 Project#2 Professor Maria Denegri & Katy Chey May 2013

The MA. KIT is a handcrafted model that simulates the assembly and design process of Glenn Murcutt’s Marika Alderton House. The Marika Alderton, is best known for its passive effects that seemlessly blend into of its context. But with almost every study explaining the ingenious thinking thats behind the green design of the house. Murcutt’s skillful draftsmanship is often overlooked. With this in mind, a multi assemblage model kit was designed along with hand drafted analytical drawings to best capture and celebrate the design process of pen and paper. A conventional practice undermined by the precision and availability of CAD. THIS PAGE Model Assembly Manual THAT PAGE Assembly Procedure

UNDERPASS

B | 40

Bright & Active Third year Housing Design Studio ARC313H1 Professor Aziza Chaouni September-December 2013

In collaboration with Nicholas Hardt and Alexander Kershaw, we came up with an opportunistic design that appropriates unused space around an underpass within the Junction Triangle. Mending the dark, unsafe conditions of underpasses into an illuminating and active corridor. The Junction Triangle is a fragmented neighborhood alienated by underpasses and deprived of communal life. Well aware of these issues, 1409 Bloor, the underpass at the busiest traffic intersection within the Junction was chosen to commence project Under-pass. Specifically to combat these pre-existing problem by offering affordable housing, rental studios and storefronts along side the underpass. Consequently, increasing foot traffic and safety by having “eyes on the street” as proposed by Jane Jacobs. VOID STUDY This is Not a Render Second year Design Studio ARC201F1 Project#3 Professor Alex Josephson Febuary - March 2012

This project is an investigation into the opposing nature between solids and voids. In this design, I utlized the contrasting nature of black and white, to exaggerate the existing voids visually projected by the model, tricking the eye into preceiving the model as an optical illusion. Resulting with models that ended up looking more like renders.

The ďŹ nal drawing represents the foot angle as it continously hits the ground when running. Stroke frequency inversely represents speed whilst the height and angle of each stroke represents the base of the foot as it progresses through the running cycle.

ICO

After an indepth study into the motion of running in relation to space and time, the instantanious action of running is more complex and elegant than you might think. And that aesthetical design can be a derivative of almost anything around us.

The aim of this personal project was to come up with a graphic design from body motions, this project experiments with the motion of running.
