Google pittsburgh cafe location: Pittsburgh, pa project type: food & beverage Client: google concept statement: Celebrating Local Designs
Tapping into the local Neighborhood aesthetics, and highlighting the ornate details of captivating Bakery Facades in Pittsburgh. These charming facades & bakeries evoke excitement & a sense of specialty. Google prefers for each cafe design to have a sense of place and tap into the office location. Since our location was Pittsburgh we researched local lifestyle & artwork. We also focused our design on the collaborative spirit of Google as a company. Due to the size of this project I was able to take on a larger role as a designer. I was directly responsible for space planning, concept design, specifications, coordination with vendors and consultants, and played a role in client presentations.

Salad Bar Design The salad bar is our big design moment with custom counter height tables and an accent tile. In consideration of acoustics we selected tin like acoustic tiles to apply to the drop down ceiling. The first game of Bingo was played in Pittsburgh. Due to Google’s love of “Easter eggs” we thought it would be fun to include bingo chips in the custom counter height tables. We also included multiple “Easter eggs” in the artwork we curated with a local Pittsburgh art group. I was also tasked with all communication with our art vendor and coordinated custom artwork that was approved by Google.

1st floor The design intent calls for a sophisticated entrance to make a positive first impression on residents and potential clients. I was tasked with pulling concept imagery to represent our floor plan and our design intent. As you can see we tried to stick to more neutral imagery so the client would not be swayed or distracted by any bold bright colors. Once the previous conceptual palette was approved we moved forward with more focused imagery that would apply directly to the space. Concept Design Phase

The following pages show the custom furniture drawings I worked on while on this project. Additionally I assisted with rendered floor plans.

Site plan:
As previously stated Sheraton SD is three separate buildings. In order to make the site feel more sophisticated and interesting we created three distinct concepts, one per building.
model room design The client originally asked us to use the Sheraton standard guestroom package for all three model rooms. As a design team we felt that the original Sheraton package lacked sense of place and pushed for the client to allow room for some customization. Once the client reviewed the original Sheraton package it was determined we would proceed with the Marina Tower following Sheraton Standards, Lanai would have a little customization, and Bay would be the most customized out of all three model rooms. I choose to focus on Bay Tower due the elevated level of design.
My role on the project included assisting with Model Room design for all three towers. I drew these elevations in AutoCad for another member of my design team to render in Photoshop. As for the rendered floor plans, I drew them all in AutoCad using the Revit file provided by the architect. Then proceeded to render the floor plans in photoshop.

My role included writing the specification in our Spec system as well as creating the custom furniture drawing. All of these drawings went through a red line process and were marked up by senior designers on my team.

2. Custom Headboard Sconce This piece was inspired by a manufacturer’s design. In order to make it our own we changed the overall height, size of bulbs, added a switch on the backplate, and made this sconce a plug in to abide by existing electrical systems.
Scale: NTS Schematic Design Phase
Another aspect of my role on this project was referencing the original model room images and plans taken by the Architect Team. For this piece we had to make it a plug with a backplate switch to comply with existing j-boxes and electrical systems.
3. custom dining settee This settee was inspired by the attached image. The design was created to evoke a heightened level of elegance while using a more simplistic style.

4. Custom pullout sofa For this furniture item we had to triple check the Shertan Design Standards and confirm that we comply with their specifications. One of our favorite aspects of this piece was the unique arm detail. Similarly to the wall sconce we pulled inspiration from a preexisting item, to make it our own we converted the sofa into a full sleeper and added a plinth detail.
I was responsible for creating this drawing as well as confirming any notes from the Sheraton Design Standards set. Please let me know if you are interested in reviewing the Bay Model Room Spec Package in it’s entirety and I would be happy to send a PDF copy directly to you.

Commodore Lounge: This food & beverage location is traditionally inspired by classic yachts. The lounge features an amazing view into the hotel’s marina. To heighten the exclusivity of the club we proposed using classic design with high quality materials. westin lombard yorktown center location: Lombard project type: hospitality concept statement:
Inspired by the white oak trees in the Churchilll Forest Perverse, this interior space encourages guests to reconnect with themselves and form new connections with others around them. The Westin Lombard offers a space to rise, reflect, and rejuvenate through the use of organic patterns and natural materials abstracted from the surrounding exterior environment. The play of light and shadows will create a calming drama in the interiors as the sun does shining down through the trees reinforcing the concept rise, reflect, and rejuvenate.

With the guidance and direction of a project manager and level 2 designer, I was responsible for writing specifications and sourcing materials, drawing custom furnishing documents in Auto Cad, re-selecting materials and furnishings based on project needs, rendering floor plans and elevations in Photo Shop. My main focus on this project however was designing the Grab and Go portion of the lobby. I specified and sourced materials and furnishings, additionally I modeled the white space views in Sketch-Up. Lastly I upheld the Westin and Starbucks standers in this spaces while maintaining the high quality of design that The Gettys Group is known for.

The Lobby The inspiration for this project is carried through the material selection of this lobby that directly correlates to the surrounding natural environment. An organic furniture layout also relates back to the inspiration for this project. As an intern I assisted with rendered floor plan updates and mainly focused on writing specifications for this project. This was my first experience with specs, I received a lot of direction and guidance from a supervising design team.
