Our biggest challenge is to create stories that naturally captivate our readers and take them into all the ateliers, cities, galleries that we visit. wo architects, Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet, joined forces to form Humbert & Poyet agency. The design and fashion enthusiasts decided to merge their skills to provide a full range of services from construction to interior design. Their projects focus on elegant and meticulous designs that create timeless spaces using premium materials such as stone, wood and bronze. Humbert & Poyet put their stamp on public work sites with their expert choice of materials, lighting and design, as well as their ability to showcase a space and set the scene for the client to take centre stage.

Florence-based luxury footwear brand Aquazzura opened its second boutique in Soho, the most fashionable district in New York. Located on 99th Prince Street, Aquazzura Soho is a boutique of 55 square metres with an original 19th century façade. Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet pictured this space as a theatrical setting, combining striking graphics and elegant design elements. The deep shades of blue, green, purple and pink inspired by the color pallet Dorothy Draper, allow the grand columns and arches to stand out and add to the enchanting, theatrical motif of the luxurious boutique. The polished brass details alongside the black and white striped background embody the signature Aquazzura aesthetic code. Small swings made of brass come down from the ceiling, featuring highlights of the new collections as presented in the boutique’s window. The shoe carousel, serving as the centrepiece of the boutique, was inspired by the Memphis style and is assembled from Floor-to-ceiling mirrors installed in alcoves extend the space of the boutique, creating an infinity effect and amplifying the signature striped pattern of the arches. The main displays add a regal yet elegant touch to the ambiance of the boutique. Made of polished brass, the mirror shelves with a travertine base fill the alcoves. A carpet, exclusive design of Humbert & Poyet, with abstract curved graphics in all shades of purple, surrounded by a black and white terrazzo, invites the clients to sit down on the elegant and comfortable pink velvet sofas. Covered with cushions that yet again illustrate the brand’s iconic stripes, these sofas accommodate a luxurious shopping experience. Humbert & Poyet also included a charming pink velvet bench, resting on a notched brass base, at the back of the boutique. The fitting area is, however, overshadowed by the green striped wall which resembles grand velvet theatre curtains, serving as a backdrop for the sculptural display made of brass which is glass and lit up by spotlights. Humbert & Poyet’s Aquazzura Soho boutique is a unique and poetic creation, made with materials that elegantly complement one another. It is a place where the reflections and matte textures of the materials intertwine and highlight the products, making everyone and everything part of the theatrical atmosphere.

Art and design are a divine combination, and the eagerness of the design brand to improve, evoke and provoke new sensations to its avid lovers, goes beyond expectations.

Boca do Lobo and Luís Onofre joined forces in a sumptuous campaign, where the harmony between luxury furniture pieces and a spring and summer collection is extremely remarkable. Covet Douro served as an abode for design, where each end made the scenario thoroughly outstanding with a special attention to details.

With the promise of never ceasing to impress, a couple of years ago, Boca do Lobo and Luís Onofre held hands and celebrated design in the most outstanding way. The Douro Mansion, known as Covet House, was the spotlight of this photoshoot. This old mansion decorated by several brands from the Covet Group, truly enhanced the luxurious nature of Luís Onofre’s newest fashion collection.

Glamour, sophistication and elegance are present in every single step of both Portuguese brands. After the one for the books experience, Boca do Lobo and Luís Onofre continue delivering to the soaring expectations in the world of design. A blend of luxury, nostalgia and accessibility, Hotel Californian’s striking Spanish Colonial Revival architecture stands a stone’s throw away from the beach. Martyn has curated an inviting and modern interior that responds to the unique style and character of Santa Barbara. Martyn has also designed the hotel’s two restaurants and spa. Martyn’s inviting and striking Mediterranean design for Blackbird - the hotel’s signature restaurant - complements the restaurant’s locally-sourced menu. The hotel’s more casual dining option, the Goat Tree Café has been designed in harmony with its relaxed and social atmosphere. In taking the natural light into consideration and in keeping with a Mediterranean influence, Martyn creates a stunning scene, whereby the light perfectly glistens over the marble table and counter tops. The hotel’s Spa Marjorelle has been named after a distinctly Moroccan blue found in the traditional tiles, windows, and doorways of Marrakech, which evokes a sense of active tranquillity. The use of this blue in abundance creates a tranquil spa and this serenity is enhanced by the Moorish chandeliers.

When the finest craftsmanship and the best of contemporary design hold hands, breathtaking art pieces like Once Upon a Time are born. 8 LIMITED EDITION MASTERPIECES Made out of 1090 triangles, the upper part of the Once Upon a Time plays with perception and combines exquisite hand painted porcelain inspired by the oriental vibe. It is crafted with precious floral and colorful details, a garden full of Paeonia flowers, where mythic Chinese birds live. These sacred birds, known as Chinese phoenixes, represent the masculine and the feminine side of a soul and are painted in shades of blue, pink, yellow and green. Distinguished by the quality of its raw materials, the Vista Alegre porcelain is characterised by its whiteness and resistance, and its bright and uniform glaze. Inside, the cabinet features a timeless combination of upholstered blue suede and mirror. A remarkable masterpiece fully hand painted which took 500 hours of hard work to conceive it by the most talented master artisans. Each work of art is customized with the future collectorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s name.

I N BLOOM A new bloom raises in the land of metals. A whimsical artwork of intricate flowers is born to challenge the traditional concepts of finest Craftsmanship, a unique piece embellished by the chiselling technique over a clean contemporary design.

With a forward-thinking aesthetic and 50 hours of hard-work, breathtaking metal flowers were manually sculpted and applied in the brass sculpture of the original Erosion stool, from Boca do Lobo collection. This new narrative of subtle glamour told by Mr. Abreu, a goldsmith with more than 40 years mastering metal work, which has created objets d’art that straddle the line between the fine and decorative arts. Driven to enhance the rich legacy of Arts & Crafts, In Bloom is inspired by natural elements which re-edit the ancestral technique of chiselling in a present-day design objet. This technique allows the sculpture of decorative and bucolic motifs of extreme finesse in a metal sheet. Using a chisel, drawings are marked in the metal sheet to form volumes, reliefs, and textures. By creating artful aspects to functional objects, Mr. Abreu aims “to enrich life by adding art into the everyday”. “It’s an ongoing process. All the intricate details I added, such as the prominent seeds, were conceived for my pleasure, I love alluring detailed challenges, to work with precision and care with my hands”. One of the biggest challenges was actually to adapt the flat brass sheet into the curved shape of the artstool. The warm gold hue urges and the cold metal is transformed by tenderness as floral poem. “I want people could actually see what it was in my imagination: flowers in bloom as beautiful as dramatic enough to lasts forever like a jewel”. The clever use of metal draw attention to the beauty of the material and brought with it somewhat of a daring attitude to design. A certain lack of pretension lies within this functional design and emphasizes a solid feeling along with a playful character. In Bloom is a collectible artwork that makes a tribute to the finest Craftsmanship and to its master artisans led by the passion of crafting, in a continuous search for excellence. From apprentices to the master artisans, the pursuit of exquisite handcrafted work stands for pure dedication, meticulously daily effort and years of growing experience, by trial and error, and repeating. This one-of-a-kind item was conceived by the Culture for Arts & Crafts, a project supported by Covet Foundation where artisans, plastic artists, and designers keep alive the spirit of experimentation, by challenging manufacturing skills of finest Craftsmanship to create the most beautiful soulful pieces.

Osmosi is a series of unique glass-and-marble vases, furniture and lighting, created by the artist Emmanuel Bladed. The project lies on the border between serial production and oneof-a-kind sculptures, being each piece resolutely functional. Osmosi Furniture and Osmosi Vases are Limited Editions made in hand blown Murano glass and Marble. Renowned for his unique pieces and limited editions for prestigious manufacturers such as Venini, Baccarat, Emmanuel Bladed combines for Osmosi new technology with traditional craftsmanship in an entirely innovative way, a virtual fusion between marble and hand-blown glass. These materials are put together with a precision that is only possible thanks to highlevel digital technology. The process begins with making the glass. The handblown form is then captured by a 3-D scanner. Through the digitalization of the form, the matching shape is CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milled into the marble, creating two unique pieces that match each other perfectly. They are separate pieces, but each has no meaning without the other. They fit together through gravity alone. Like Cinderella

and the glass shoe, there is only one unique piece of glass that can fit into one unique piece of marble. The effect is a perfect symbiosis between materials. Emmanuel Babledâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s design approach is based on the idea that a good project is born through direct contact and physical presence in the territory of its production. Observing materials and techniques in their authentic surroundings, gaining a feeling for places and social conditions have become an important part of his work method. Territorial skills and the human factor are elements that determine the result. His works can be seen in noteworthy Galleries around the world such as Galerie Yves et Victor Gastou in Paris, the acclaimed Nilufar in Milan, or the Twenty First Gallery in New York. He started his activity as a designer in Paris and moved to Milan in 1992, the city where he founded his own studio and worked for 18 years. Before settling in Lisbon in early 2016, he lived for five years in Amsterdam.
