Heidner 1 In the 1970’s film, Love Story, Ali Macgraw unintentionally started a trend for women everywhere. Not only did she set a style for bringing preppy back, but also brought on an entirely new trend. One day they were filming a scene in the snow, so Ali grabbed a red knit beanie that she had worn to the set that day. This beanie was coined as “The Love Story Hat.” As soon as the movie was released women all over were running to the stores for replicas of the hat and sold out shops everywhere.
! In Fall 2013 we started to see the beanie making a comeback. Kate Spade and Tracy Reese were some of the first to present a knit beanie in their lines during Fashion Week. Bloggers everywhere, from sunny California to chilly New York were pairing beanies with shorts or winter coats to everything in between. Beanies are made now in multiple different colors, sizes, shapes and fabrics. Recently, we have seen a trend of beanies being made with words on the front. They are being worn but every different type of person, men, women, high-end, low-end, young and old. They have come back into the fashion world full force.
