Recalling Mining Lives — Miners' Memorial Garden There are many reasons to remember warmly the people whose lives were at the heart of the coal‐mining industry. Our visitors to the National Coal Mining Museum for England have asked if we can find a way to commemorate those lives. A memorial garden, a place for quiet contemplation and reflection, will allow all who visit us to share the memories of what coal mining has meant over many generations.
We would like local and mining communities to work with us to create, use and further develop the garden. The garden will commemorate all those who were part of the industry, including those who died while mining and through mining‐related diseases.
Many people have their roots in coal mining. Whether your family worked in the mines, you live in an historic mining area, or you know of coal mining’s important place in British history, we are looking for your support. If you would like to be involved with the development of the Memorial Garden or to make a contribution to the appeal, please contact us. We hope to open the garden in summer 2014, if we can raise sufficient funds. We are grateful for all donations, large or small. To make a donation, please contact the Development Office on 01924 848533, complete the form below or email development.officer@ncm.org.uk For more information about the project, please contact Mrs Rosemary Preece at: NCMME, Caphouse Colliery, New Road, Overton, Wakefield, West Yorkshire WF4 4RH or telephone 01924 848806.

Make your donation go further – Gift Aid it! If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid is an easy way to make your donation tax‐effective. To qualify to make a Gift Aid declaration, what you have paid or will pay in Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for each tax year (6 April to 5 April) must at least equal the amount of tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) that you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. We will reclaim 28p of tax on every £1 that you gave up to 5 April 2008 and will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that you give on or after 6 April 2008. So if you are eligible and want to make your donation go further, tick the box below and Gift Aid it! I am a UK taxpayer and I would like the National Coal Mining Museum for England Trust Ltd to treat all donations I have made for the four years prior to this year and all donations I make in the future as Gift Aid donations, until I notify you otherwise.
We may use the details on this form to update you about the project’s progress. To help to reduce costs, where an e‐mail address has been provided, we would like to use this. If you do not wish to be updated by post or e‐mail, please tick here.
