Alex Ferrara Alex is determined, level headed individual that works well in teams and has experience leading. Alex is a skilled craftsman and enjoys designing and constructing packaging. He was raised in his father’s metal fabrication shop and has been using power tools and other heavy machinery. Alex spends his free time at the shooting range, fly fishing and weight lifting. Any other free time he might be using Trimble SketchUp creating homes in 3D and other products. Alex has plans to find a job in the 3D rendering side of the graphic design field. His resume includes 3D rending experience in SketchUp with KenroyHome, a lighting design and production company. Alex worked closely with Kenroy’s CEO to help design new lighting concepts for the coming years trends and product line. Alex looks forward to future endeavors in the field of graphic design while gaining experience in the professional world.

Mrahaba Cigars Branding // Packaging Overview Mrahaba Cigars is a Kenyan company that hand wraps cigars exclusively from Kenyan tobacco farms. Mrahaba’s target market are the wealthy and sophisticated business men around the world.

Challenge Brand the company with an upscale look to the brand. Mrahaba translates to “royalty” in Kenyan, this helps establish branding guidelines when making the brand read as an upscale company.

Solution Simplistic approach was taken to the brand, wanting to create a strong logo that appeals to the company’s target audience while acting as a desirable sales tool, drawing the consumer in. To enforce the “royalty” feeling of Mrahaba, gold is used in the perimeter of the logo. The ornately designed “M” has elements that resemble elephant tusks correlating it to the elephant in the logo. The pattern in the background utilizes the open space and adds elements of design to make the logo more interesting.

The Arsenal Magazine Layout Overview The Arsenal is a magazine that focuses on the newest tools, products and weaponry in the industry for enthusiasts. Each monthly issue contains a product review, tips to learn more about your equipment along with an article dedicated to weapon or military history.

Challenge The Arsenal is a subscription magazine thats target audience includes ex-military, hunters and outdoors men. Middle-aged men that enjoy the outdoors and weaponry. The goal was to create a magazine that offers knowledge rather than just images of weaponry. The Arsenal contains different articles between it’s pages, all of full of them valuable sources of info.

Solution Use an organized and clean layout to deliver information to the reader. Report on relevant issues, like the newest rifle or accessory and product reviews and comparisons. The last article of each issue will always a historical story of either American history or history of a particular weapon.

Accurate Towers Branding // Vehicle Warp // Website Layout Overview Re-brand the company Accurate Towers with a modern approach without imagery that screams marine industry. Accurate Towers is a small business specializing in the fabrication of sports fishing towers for charter boats as well as private vessels.

Challenge To brand the business without a logo but using nautical graphics to show that it is not a tow truck business, since towers and towers are spelled the same.

Solution The solution includes the design of business cards, a vinyl truck wrap for mobile advertising, a new website layout and a promotional booth for boat shows and similar events. The business cards, website and event booth will provide information on services and products provided, along with contact information and photos that show the end result of a boat with Accurate Tower’s work installed on it.

Country Lard Branding // Packaging Design Overview Cooking lard company branded with the intent to be marketed towards those who purchase organic foods from small markets. Country Lard is branded with a light airy feel to help distract from the lard itself.

Challenge Brand a cooking item that many might be put off by. Create a front and rear label for cooking lard while making it look as though it could be a candy label as well. The label must appeal to the target audience by the use of color and typography.

Solution The label for Country Lard has influences of farm life throughout. The typeface used for Country Lard was customized to join th ligatures and make it feel thick and soft, inspired by lard. The etchings of pigs help enforce the feeling of an old handmade market item. The background pattern was inspired by old farm fences.

Marmalade Branding // Packaging Design Overview Marmalade is a 1960’s band originally from United Kingdom. This CD, DVD combo set consists of packaging, concert promotional posters.

Challenge Re brand a franchise such a band, choose typefaces, design concert poster, design CD, DVD booklets and CD, DVD artwork, shoot photography, design and fabricate packaging to house all components.

Solution Create packaging to house components of limited edition package. Design and print two booklets to be packaged with disks. Design poster for concert as part of promotional. The packaging is constructed of pine, acrylic and stainless steel screws. The wood brings an organic feel to concept while the acrylic and steel screws deliver an industrial and grungy feel.

Good Wood Branding // Vehicle Wrap // Lumber Stencil Overview The Good Wood Company is a fictional lumber company that prides itself on quality lumber at competitive prices.

Challenge Brand a lumber company with it’s own personality. Creating a logo with a 19th century design, this design reflects a point in American history when companies kept the consumer in mind instead of just profit margin.

Solution Create components of the brand that will reach the target audience through the chosen channels. The chosen channels are vinyl truck graphics, vinyl floor graphics for lumber stores. The store floor graphics target the contractor or weekend warrior who is not connected to social media. Vinyl truck graphics act as mobile advertisement, while the floor graphics lead the target audience to The Good Wood Company product.

Lamp Design 3D Rendering and Lighting Design Overview Design and market interior lighting for companies like Home Depot, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Menard’s etc.

Challenge Design lighting fixtures that appeal to certain markets depending on product style, material and finish. Markets are found after performing gap analysis.

Solution Use Trimble SketchUp 3D rendering software and Adobe Photoshop to create images of product concepts. Once prototypes are created and approved, they are sent to the states from China to be sold in stores.

Hemorrhoid Cream Branding // Ad Design Overview A penguin was chosen as Happy Seat’s logo purely because they drag their bottoms in snow, and what better way to show cooling relief than ice.

Challenge Create graphics for a product that has a negative and repulsive feeling about it and manipulating type and graphics that would draw people in and making them feel better about purchasing hemorrhoid cream.

Solution Create a penguin that is the same color as the type so that it is not a heavy a focal point as if it was black. The type treatment helps give the brand a light, uplifting attitude to hemorrhoid cream. The applications are place in environments where those who are suffering will view the ads.

Toy Packaging Packaging // Package Design Overview Create a new package design for a child’s toy. Design must be innovative and perform as packaging.

Challenge Create a template for a die-cut package for graphics to be applied to. Design the layout of package on 11x17� size paper, use of space for template was maximized.

Solution Design layout and die-cut template with graphics applied, graphics from product title and company logo must be applied to new packaging. The new packaging has an interesting shape while still being able to perform as packaging by holding the product and being able to be hung from store shelving.

Allied Optics Branding // Package Design // Packaging Overview Brand an upscale optics company who’s quality is evident in its branding. Allied Optics is for the hunter who desires strong reliable products while deep in the wilderness.

Challenge Create a strong brand identity and utilize components throughout business cards, packaging, stationary and a letterhead. Use a color palette inspired by nature, marsh lands and wooded areas.

Solution Use colors that the outdoors men can relate to. To help keep the brand identity masculine, Bodoni was chosen for its size and height for the logo to symbolize strength, dominance and reliability within the brand. The business cards, letterhead and envelopes were designed with simplicity in mind since it is designed for the simple man.
