role
:
designer
brief tasked with designing pwc’s new flagship office and experience center in the heart of san francisco, we created a vibrant and energetic space that was respectful of their corporate needs, but also reimagined what a typical office could look like. while each floor takes on a slightly different aesthetic based on various historic san francisco neighborhoods, the overall eclectic design brings a relaxed, but professional feel to the space. designing and detailing an intervening stair that required cutting through the existing slab was a fun challenge to overcome. the existing building had raised access flooring, allowing for some mechanical to be hidden under the floor; however, flooring material was limited to tate raf and carpet tiles, as the entirety of

the
6th floor hosts the main reception lobby as well as the quarter (left), forum, and experience
center. all three spaces were designed with collaboration in mind. focusing on how and where people work throughout their day helped in the layout of these spaces. the central atrium runs through each floor. the libraries are stacked and adjacent to the atrium, making for a dynamic visual from reception. plan north is the experience center, an innovative, collaborative space. most public gathering spaces are located plan west and around the atrium, while quieter work areas are held closer to the exterior walls.
6
the quarter is an open lounge adjoining reception and the forum, cafe it. features custom art wrapping a banquette. a variety of seating is provided to host different types of working styles. it was important to incorporate laptop tables and outlets everywhere for mobile working. diffuse light is provided by the recessed barrisol lights
6th floor quarter
the forum is primarily a cafe for employees, but can be converted into a giant event space. the operable wall dividing the space can open providing ample room for large gatherings.
6th floor forum
the garden patio provides an out door respite and beautiful views into the city.

the
5th floor many of the same amenities as the 6th; however some key differences are the training
rooms located plan west,
3
main conference rooms facing the intervening stair, and a multitude
of neighborhoods, or working spaces, lining the perimeter of the floor. the ability to work and collaborate in every provided space was extremely important. a host of supporting spaces are included with each floor: file rooms, focus rooms, storage rooms, service hubs, and idf rooms to name a few.
8
the board rooms located on floor
5 each have their own
flare. color schemes were chosen by through the local offices voting, as were many of the design decisions. the center most room features a barrisol ceiling which provides diffuse light.
5th floor conference
the parks are located on either side of the libraries on each floor. they are meant to be on impromptu, relaxed meeting and working spot. floating egg shaped seats were custom made and structurally meet code.
4, 5, 6th floor park
the library has a cozy atmosphere for quiet, heads down work. recessed niches line the space and a coffered ceiling is above. creating an appealing space that is visible from across the atrium on all three floors was essential.

the

floor hosts many of the same amenities as the

haven, the game room, and the webcast studio. code compliance for phone booths, occupancy type proper egress calculations for each space, and permit acquisitions were just a few of the challenges throughout the life of this project.

the haven, meant to be a sanctuary and place of relaxation, houses a yoga studio, shower rooms, mother’s rooms, and renewal pods. custom millwork and lighting encase the facade of the space.

the internal stair runs from floor
4 to 6. scanning of the
pretension slab had to happen in order to cut through the existing tendons. fiber reinforced plastic and steel tubing were part of the new structure. smoke baffles were necessary for code compliance.

a small but essential space, the game room speaks for itself, a retreat for the employees.

the small front porch
, like the

pantries are found on either end of all floors. they serve as a cafe space specifically for the nearby neighborhoods. color and texture was brought into each pantry to give a distinctive feel.

raymond james branch prototype
interior build-out
1 floor / 35,000sf 2021 designer
brief raymond james, a financial investment bank, tasked us with creating their branch of the future
(botf). while this wouldn’t be a physically built branch, we created a kit
of parts for branches
to pick from. each prospective branch would have to accommodate raymond james advisors and support staff as well as their clients. while many design styles were explored, the client ultimately landed on new traditional, dynamic and vibrant, refined sophisticated, natural and organic, and urban industrial. each style used the same suburban office prototype plan, with small differences, except for urban industrial, which focused on a city based office. 5 designs styles explored, but 2 different cost tiers were presented (best & good). cost tiers affected ffe items, finishes, and custom millwork. this way, small branches could still choose an aesthetic even if budgets didn’t allow for the best cost tier. the way we presented this material was a first at vocon. we built the models in revit, rendered in enscape, and then created a custom walk through experience in 3d vista where the client could select and compare the various styles and cost tiers. checkout the walk-through : https://storage.net-fs.com/hosting/6855096/0/ login & password: rj

designing for the right clientele was important. as they tend to be older, we didn’t want to propose a design that would make them feel uncomfortable or that the space was too hip. the dynamic and vibrant style brings the modern with bold strokes of color. black mullions and trim along with pops of unexpected color create energy in the space without making it feel off-putting.

1 floor 35,000sf 2021 designer
brief chosen as the design architects, vocon was tasked with designing various raymond james branches around the country. each local‘s geographic location influenced the aesthetic of the respective branch. much like the branch of the future, each branch location requires a reception and client area in the front of house and workstations and meeting rooms in the back of house. initial space planning was worked out in cad, later modeled in revit, and finally rendered in enscape. video walk-through renderings were presented to the client. as the design architects, we had to create a comprehensive package not only for the client, but also for the architect of record so design intent wouldn’t be lost.

solutions to its customers. 4 different sites for an expansion in
downtown boston. the plans on the following page show dynamic and efficient layouts that met the client’s headcounts in the charts to the right. part of this challenge was to move nwm away from the traditional closed office structure they were used to and mix in open hoteling for their employees, as well as fit within the rentable square footaged allowed within the floor. balancing a sense of security for the clients and providing a modern and exciting workspace for the employees was essential.
