POST-INDUSTRIAL SITES
BROWNFIELD: real property, the
expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
POST-INDUSTRIAL SITES
SUPERFUND: The name given to
the environmental program established to address abandoned hazardous waste sites. It is also the name of the fund established by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA). This law was enacted in the wake of the discovery of toxic waste dumps in the 1970s. It allows the EPA to clean up such sites and to compel responsible parties to perform cleanups or reimburse the government for EPA-lead cleanups.
BROWNFIELD: Real property, the

POST-INDUSTRIAL SITES
NPL: The list of national priorities among
the known releases or threatened releases of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. The NPL is intended primarily to guide the EPA in determining which sites warrant further investigation.
