Good design has the power to make a positive impact on people’s lives. I am interested in creating environments where humans can thrive with new ideas and engage in rich interactions. I also have an innate interest in developing ideas of how we can best coexist with the natural environment and design with honesty and consciousness towards our planet’s rich resources.

ROOTS AT HAMPTON HOUSE Individual Project: HOSPITALITY DESIGN Hampton House was a famous hotel in Miami during the time of segregation. It hosted many important activists who used this as safe space to stay during their fight for racial equality. The restaurant at the hotel also became famous for its jazz nights and began attracting all kinds of people who enjoyed music without restrictions of race or color.

Hampton House THE NEW RESTAURANT The revival of the restaurant at the Hampton House comes out of the desire of a young musician to retake the space as a place for music industry meetings and where guests can also enjoy food bites and music.

client needs • PERSONALITY: The client is a musical prodigy, with a reserved personality, and craft oriented in his style of music production. • DESIRES: Intimate experience between the users, the food & drinks, and the music.

Hampton House

Concept model

• SPECIAL FOCUS: Client wants to revive the history of the Hampton House, which was a gathering place for entertainers, and make it relevant for a new generation of performers and friends while maintaining a close relationship to the past restaurant/ bar as a place for social and cultural exchange.

Proposal •

Organic flow between open and enclosed spaces that designate different activity zones.

Comfort: Seating that is soft and enveloping.

Acoustics: Adequate adaptation of sound in the space for appreciating live music in the restaurant.

CASA

CENTER FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM IN ADOLESCENTS

Individual Project: HEALTHCARE DESIGN GOAL: Create a support center for the needs and development of adolescents on the autism spectrum. Children and adolescents with Autism require approximately 15-25 hours of therapy on a weekly basis. As various types of therapies are rarely offered ever in the same place, parents often have to choose which therapies would benefit their children the most. CASA, Center for Autism Spectrum in Adolescents will provide a place where the adolescents and their parents can come to receive all the therapies they need in one place. The spatial development was a group effort. Special prototypes were developed individually. I conceptualized a prototype that would aid adolescents develop skills through the use of technology and at the same time interact with others to ultimately discover people with similar interests.

PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT

I was Interested in developing activities in the sensory room that would promote social interaction and learning between the users. depth: 15”

width: 18”

Integration of technology with the built environment as a learning tool. From here a series of digital tables where born where the screen was split four ways and the table legs followed the same format, providing four different spaces within the same table for controlled interaction. One of the facility’s considerations was to envision healthcare of the future, where technological advancements would change our interactions with the built environment.

PROTOTYPE MODEL

ACTIVITY ROOM ELEVATION - ACTIVITY TABLES Textured tiles to create a stimulus tactile contrast from the sleek digital tables. The drop-down ceiling fixture is lined with acoustical paneling for noise control and provides ambient light.

4

Learning Zone

The tables are located in the activity room, they can be customized by the user to engage in different activities like playing video games, solving crossword puzzles, reading e-books, or digital painting.

By splitting the screen on the tables, the users have an opportunity to interact with other adolescents and discover people with similar interests.

JELLY bELLY cANDY COMPANY Individual Project: WORKPLACE DESIGN Formerly known as Goelitz Confectionery Company, Jelly Belly has been a family owned company for five generations. SoFi BEACH CLUB GROUP PROJECT: HOSPITALITY DESIGN The enclave South of Fifth Street neighborhood, or “SoFi”, is a retreat located at the southernmost tip of Miami Beach. This area is occupied by cultured residents with holistic lifestyles and a select number of international tourists. Although this unique area features white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and many popular hospitality venues, it lacks a center which brings together the local community and like-minded tourists. The new “Seaside Retreat” will offer a haven and gathering point at the heart of the South of Fifth Street district. INDIVIDUAL WORK: Graphics and Second floor development.

Holistic Learning Center for Early ChildhooD Rather than focusing on teacher- centered learning, holistic education emphasizes children’s unique development, taking into account their physical, psychological and spiritual aspects. This project explores the development of new learning space models that encourage such diversity in learning during early-childhood years.

PLAYFUL EXPLORATION

BUBBLE DIAGRAM TODDLERS

Children wooden toys help toddlers develop an understanding of the physical world. The basic concepts behind these toys are explored in the design and expressed through rhythm, color, primary forms and natural materials to encourage playful exploration.
