Building an audience for your blog takes consistency and hard work. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to help speed up the process of gaining new readers and ranking well in the search engines. 1. Build Relationships Your number one priority as a blogger is to build relationships with your readers, other bloggers and other online communities in your niche. Direct interaction with your readers through the comment section goes a long way. But why not also set up open threads that are designed to make your blog more interactive? Ask questions to your readers. Don't be afraid to ask advice from your readers. To communicate with other bloggers, post in their comment section or even send them some great news tips. They'll love you for it, and most likely pay a visit to your blog. To communicate with other online communities, track down as many popular forums and blogs related to your blog topic as you can. Make positive contributions to the community and the community will pay you back with either some link love or some site visits. 2. Build Content You really need a steady stream of content to build a thriving blog. Aim for a post at least every two days. Feel free to take a break on the weekends and save your energy for the week when you'll get more bang for your buck. If you post multiple times per day (highly recommended) then try spreading them out so that your readers will know to come back for more. Running out of ideas? Then why not create a feedreader with feeds specific to your blog topic. This allows you to track and become part of ongoing conversations, further contributing to your relationship building! 3. Build Links Most people think that they need only need to build links to their homepage. But really, the most effective link is the one coming into an article or subdirectory on your site. Spend less time acquiring site wide links to your homepage and more time trying to get other sites to link to specific articles. Social voting sites can help here but so can participation in the comments section on other blogs. 4. Rock Solid Hosting
All probloggers know it. Most new bloggers don't. If you don't have solid hosting, then you're losing your two most important things on a daily basis: readers and money! Make sure you line up a host that can withstand the traffic of a major Digg or Reddit. Here are some of our favorite web hosts:
