4th Year | Density Hybrid | BArch (hons) Housing and creative industry accommodation - Bethnal Green London The site was centred on an urban garden accommodating hidden parking beneath. The architecture combined high value terraced family housing fronting the canal and artist live work viewing the lane. The project was designed to fit in with a group masterplan incorporating dense terraced housing and a library which all utilised CHP via biomass.
5th Year | Architecture and the City | Urbanism | M[Arch] | Group Group analysis was carried out on the central Dundee site alongside a selection of known urban blocks; Edinburgh New Town, Glasgow City Centre, Ijberg, Barcelona and Ypenberg. Additionally quantifying the green space allocated in the masterplan was a central focus which dictated the eventual arrangement of the blocks. Eleven students worked on individual sites forming their own thesis projects throughout the year designing a collection of buildings which linked through scale and materiality.
5th Year | Architecture and the City | Urbanism | M[Arch] | Thesis ‘Architecture in Between’ Designing a building on the periphery of a city - on the ‘threshold’ - where the city and water collide. The thesis investigated how different functions can meet at this point and unite through nothing other than necessity for location therefore resulting in a building as a successful ‘difficult whole’ The building - sailing centre & bridge control for the city of Dundee used Venturi principles in the arrangement of the plan and section. Taking advantage of both views across the Firth of Tay and the direct access to the water, the functions of the building naturally fell into their final positions.
