Hybrid
Furniture
Hybrid usually refers to the result from the mixture of two different components that are unlikely to be combined.
inspiration
Shao Fan
In a series of chairs, this artist has merged Ming style furniture with a clean and geometric contemporary style
inspiration
Frankestein
Furniture
Making reference to Mary Shelly’s 1823 novel Frankenstein, the concept refers to the building and fixing of furniture with broken parts from other pieces.
THE OBJECTS
Corner Shelf
Ornament
These were found in a garage. Due to their curved shaped they might be part of an Art Nouveau inspired piece. This movement stood out for the use of these organic lines and ornaments.
Coffee
Table
This piece was obtained from Craigslist. It’s design, we believe, belongs to the modernism movement, which rejected motifs in design and emphasized in geometrical forms
Night Stand
Table
These pieces were reused from waste of another project.
First Ideation
Brainstorming In the beginning point we had a chair as well and were trying to create an object that would combine the use of different ones and save space

Concept Definition
Preliminary
Concepts The concepts defined were all multipurpose and yet all different from one another.
Concept Definition
Preliminary
Concepts Besides from choosing this particular concept, we also added rules for its fabrication such as building everything entirely from scraps to avoid generating waste, including the prototype.
Development of the prototype
Prototype The developing of the prototype was a process which required a great number of calculations not only for the changes which would be made in the original pieces, but in replicating the originals as well. .
development of the prototype
Prototype This prototype in 1:2 scale allowed us to find, understand, and solve technical difficulties that we would surely find in the building of the full scale piece, as well as improving the original concept.
Aesthetic Development
Improving the Concept A second round of sketching was necessary to solve technical difficulties presented in the prototype, while maintaining the idea of hybridity.
Aesthetic Development
Improving the Concept After a large number of sketches, it was necessary to choose which ones were better and explore the posibility of colors.
Aesthetic Development
Improving the Concept At this point, we needed to decide how we would assemble the legs and the appearance each way would have.

Assembly Additional pieces were created and the originals were modified to adjust them to the concept
Final Result
Final Prototype In the final prototype everything was made for disassembly, no glue was used at all. The pieces made from scratch, such as the legs and under support, were painted in an off white. This decision was based on the need to highlight the new pieces, and yet keep them in synchrony with the already existing ones, maintaining the balance. We have called it the “Full Inside coffee table as an ironic way of referring to the fact that even though the inside is physically empty, it’ is already filled with memories because of all the materials with a history of their own used. From the original concept we maintained the contrast of the elements and their ages and from that we added the legs.
