Annual Fund

2012/13

SMALL PROJECTS that make a real difference The Annual Fund is a mechanism through which OS, parents and former parents can play their part in assisting further development of Stonyhurst by concentrating on small but significant projects for immediate implementation. This means that your gift makes an instant impact and benefits current Stonyhurst pupils. The varied list of attractive projects fall outside the remit of what the School can be reasonably expected to provide from its routine expenditure budget but are such that will add to the special qualities that make Stonyhurst distinctive and give you the opportunity to make your gift felt exactly where you prefer. If you are able to make a donation you will enhance and broaden the lives and development of Stonyhurst pupils. No gift is too small, all levels of support are vital to the success of this appeal... and please do not forget to take advantage of the Gift Aid Scheme to increase the value of your gift by 25%.

THEIR heritage “Stonyhurst is a special place and I feel a sense of responsibility to ensure it remains that way for my children and for future generations

Bursaries The offer of bursaries to deserving families is central to our mission. Our ethos has always been, and will continue to be, to open the doors to those who would benefit from a Stonyhurst education and who would otherwise not be able to come. In doing this we create the varied cultural mix which has always been so characteristic of the school. Already, more than a third of our pupils receive assistance. ÂŁ8,000 would provide a 50% bursary for a deserving day pupil and ÂŁ14,500 would provide the same for a full boarder.

ST MARY’S HALL & Hodder House NEW TECHNOLOGY We would like to purchase Six 16gb iPads (£329 each) The iPad is revolutionising educational possibilities for children. Using a medium with which they quickly become expert there is a range of uses. There are specialist Apps for the teaching of phonics, spelling, reading, maths, hand-eye coordination and fine motor control, sequencing, tracking, speech and language development. They are particularly attractive to boys who can therefore be encouraged to read more readily. It is likely that in time we will need to acquire suites of iPads but starting with 6 will give us a period to train up staff and learn more about how we will develop this technology in the future.

Provide the best for the next generation to succeed 6

Two Team Shelters on the All Weather Sports Pitch (ÂŁ4,500 each) The Shelters will allow the All Weather Pitch to be used for longer periods every day and during the evenings and providing comfort for the players in the typical Lancashire weather!

Four (Concept 2) Rowing Machines ÂŁ1,200 each These machines would replace four existing machines which have been used intensively over the past 6 years. Rowing machines provide beneficial all round fitness options for all boys and girls whether they are in representative sport or not. They will give our elite games players specialist equipment to help them prepare for competition and they will form part of the lifelong culture of health and fitness characteristic at Stonyhurst.

College Chapel Organ (PHASE 2)

During the previous Annual Fund, we raised nearly ÂŁ10,000 towards the restoration and essential repair work to bring the organ back to its former glory. Generations who have worshipped in the College Chapel know and remember the power and significance of this mighty instrument to Stonyhurst. We are looking for ÂŁ16,000 to complete the work.

“I am delighted to lend my support to this appeal...beautiful music played on such a significant and historic instrument is an enriching experience for all who hear it. Please lend your support to this appeal.

Alternatively you may wish to make a general gift in which case we will allocate it to those needs that the school deems are most urgent.
