Help us

nurture the future The Annual Fund is a way of enabling parents, former parents and alumni to play their part in assisting further development of Stonyhurst by concentrating on small but significant projects. The projects selected are diverse in nature and fall outside the sphere of what the school is able to provide from its routine expenditure budget.

If you decide to make a donation or a company donation, you will be enriching the lives and development of Stonyhurst pupils, and helping us to give them the widest possible range of opportunities during their time at Stonyhurst. Please don’t forget to take advantage of the Gift Aid scheme to increase the value of the gift to us by 25% (if you are a UK higher rate taxpayer please see the enclosed form). The previous Annual Fund 2011/12 raised £66,000, which exceeded our expectations, in spite of the economic recession. This year we hope you will help us again.

Restoration of the College Chapel (Boys’ Chapel) Organ The chapel is home to a beautiful historic organ that was donated to Stonyhurst in 1898 by Bernard Belton. The organ was made by Bishop & Son of London. Some work was carried out on the organ 40 years ago and it is now in need of some restoration work to return it to its former glory. The organ is an integral and important part of the chapel, please help us raise the £26,000 needed to keep this magnificent organ playing for the next 100 years.

Heritage & Collections

Oil painting on wood panel, 17th or 18th century of Arabic origin. The icon was presented to the prep school at Hodder in 1907 by Mrs Coury, the mother of Gabriel Coury VC, as a focus for the children's night prayers. The painting was moved to the Pieta Gallery in the 1980's but has suffered from flaking, to which all panel paintings are prone. The image showing the conservation work part complete, shows the damage suffered over the years, requiring careful invisible touching up so as not to be apparent when the conservation is finished. It also shows the vibrant colours which will be revealed for the first time in a couple of generations, once the work is finished. We need ÂŁ4,000 to complete the work. 6

Bursaries

Our ethos has been, and will continue to be, to open the doors to Stonyhurst to those who would otherwise be unable to come. This we do because it is the right thing to do, stemming from our values, and not because of political pressure. We know that a diverse pupil body enhances education and we aim to provide more bursaries to deserving pupils. Already, more than a third of our pupils receive assistance. ÂŁ7,500 would provide a 50% bursary for a deserving day pupil and ÂŁ13,500 would provide the same for a full boarder.

progress and growth Helping pupils achieve their full potential. 7

Essential improvements are required to provide a specialist cricket facility for Winter Nets and all year round indoor training. To enable us to continue to compete at the highest schoolboy level, pupils must have access to high quality practice facilities. To achieve this we wish to install a new 4 bay net system along with the appropriate standard of batting mats, storage and lighting structure. The total for this development will be ÂŁ15,000.

Indoor Cricket Equipment Provide the best for the next generation to succeed 6

Wherever Stonyhurst needs it most During each financial year, the school must deal with a variety of unexpected costs, some of which cannot be deferred. Should you wish to support this area, we will allocate your gift to those needs that are most urgent.

Thank you to all those who continue to support stonyhurst
