Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

Introduction Welcome to the master teacher manual for the level 3 Usui system of Reiki. This manual covers both the traditional and contemporary Reiki techniques. If you are looking for this course to ‘complete’ your Reiki training, you may be disappointed. There is no way to absolutely complete ones spiritual development and personal intuition. It is an ongoing process. You will continue to develop your knowledge, awareness and skills for the rest of your life (and when you in turn come to compose your own Reiki manuals to pass on to your students if you choose). Having already learnt Reiki 1 (Shoden) and Reiki 2 (Okuden) it is assumed that you are very familiar with and have practiced Reiki many times, giving treatments and using the symbols taught in Reiki 2. You know what Reiki energy feels like. You have given yourself many treatments, preferably daily, especially for the first 3 weeks after level 1. You have carried out distant healing. You are aware of all the Chakras, their positions, the glands and organs that they affect, and their physical and spiritual functions. You know about the aura and the layers of the aura and the four part body system. It is wise to understand also where all the body organs are located and their functions. If you are unaware, a revision course in Anatomy and Physiology would help your Reiki practice, although not absolutely essential. Reiki Master/Teacher Level 3 (Shinpiden) consists of learning the Master symbol, receiving the 3rd degree Level Attunement, and learning how to give an attunement. At first glance the actual course content may seem less than that of levels 1 and 2. In fact you receive more; what you are getting with Level 3 Master/Teacher is a return to the simplicity and power of Reiki, with the all-important information about how to pass it on to others which an bring enormous benefits to you and your students for the rest of your life. It is a new beginning. Welcome to becoming a Reiki master/teacher.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

On being a Reiki master The title. There are a few people who want to be a Reiki master for the title and the perceived power it holds. In fact there is a lot of misunderstanding about this in the west. The word Master has been translated from the Japanese word ‘Sensei’ for teacher. Being a Reiki master does not mean you are better or wiser or more enlightened than anyone else. It does not mean that others have to access the power of Reiki only through you. We are all responsible for our own direct connection to the Source, and should not give our power away to anyone or anything. Being a Reiki master means that you are able to transfer the ability to transmit Reiki attunement to others. A Reiki master (sensei) should be working for the ‘Highest Good’ at all times and only in accordance with divine will. Levels 3a and 3b The information for level 3 is sometimes split into 2 levels, 3a and 3b. This manual covers information in both these levels, making it one. Not everyone wants to be a teacher of Reiki, so Level 3a covers everything to the highest level of Reiki but misses out how to do the attunement process and information for teaching. Originally it took two or more years to become a fully empowered Reiki channel, but in these times of greatly accelerated energy we need less time in between the several degrees. Nowadays there are even singular attunements which raise your vibration and energetic openness immediately to the level of Reiki master/teacher.

About symbols. The symbols are tools to facilitate connecting with aspects of the universal energy for healing. They do not themselves have inherent power. They were introduced to make Reiki appear more tangible in the west. No symbols entered into Usui’s system for most of his students, and thus the empowerments (connection rituals) do not use symbols either; why would they since Usui’s system was up and running long before he introduced symbols for the benefit of Dr Hayashi and the other naval officers in 1923. Usui seems to have taught his system as early as 1915, maybe even earlier. A concrete reality, a tangible sign which represents an abstract idea. A letter, figure, sign used in mathematics, science, music, etc… to represent a quantity, phenomenon, operation, function… We have often lost our larger understanding of symbols as evolution has slowly shaped our minds towards a material vision of things. Symbols have become an archaic concept for many. Symbols survived however. In our daily lives as well as religions: Eg: national flag, letters and figures, gestures, wedding ring, etc Now that western Reiki practitioners have made contact with Japanese Reiki practitioners from the Reiki association founded by Mikao Usui it is apparent that this is Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 -5-

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition the way they are used in that society and that many people become able to use Reiki functions without directly invoking the symbols. These symbols are exactly that, symbols. They are not what they represent. The Reiki symbols represent specific properties, functions of energy for healing and spiritual enhancement. When anyone who is attuned to Reiki sees and says the name or draws these symbols it helps them to connect themselves with the Reiki energy and activate the function and specific purpose that the symbol represents/ The symbols remind us that there are ways to focus on different aspects of the energy and use them. The symbols themselves are not the energy. There are some forms of Reiki that do not use symbols any more. They involve channelling the energy immediately and directly by intention alone. Perhaps the symbols we use help us at each stage of our spiritual development, but yo may find as you grow in your experience that they become obsolete, or you may receive new symbols, or just use one of them. In my opinion nothing is set in stone and we need to be open to the evolutionary process of healing world-wide. As we advance spiritually as a race we may leave old ways behind. The collective consciousness works through all of us.

The Master Symbol (Dai Ko Myo) Empowerment, Intuition, Creativity and Spiritual Connection. This is the master symbol or energy function used for activating the initiation and attunement to Reiki. This is the only symbol added in traditional Usia Reiki during the master training. Dai Ko Myo, or the components of the word, can be found in a good Japanese dictionary. It can be partly translated as “Great Shining Light” or “the treasure tower of light”. It represents the Buddha consciousness. It is sometimes use in esoteric Buddhism as a metaphor for the essential spiritual truth or laws of the universe. Dai Ko Myo indicates light, clarity, intention, understanding, presence, silence. It is the symbol used in initiations to harmonize human beings to the energy of Reiki. Dai Ko Myo opens, enlightens, protects. It is Light which nourishes and fills, leads the way and rests the spirit. Dai Ko Myo represents the most authentic, lively and present part of the whole Reiki path. This light is used to enlighten one’s path, for understanding one’s true self again, to tap into one’s own deepest, inmost soul, to lead the way in the exploration to reach the essence of Being. Dai Ko Myo is also used for self-treatment and for treating others with great awareness, in a dynamic balance of relaxation and concentration, with its silent and vivifying presence. The most effective use of Dai Ko Myo seems to be in he initiating people into the various Reiki degrees with it. Mrs Takata drew the symbols differently for many of her students. The first three symbols (CKR, SHK & HSZSN) were compared and one form for each was selected after her death. This was not done with DKM so there are many variations which you may encounter. They all work.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition DKM activates a powerful energy for self empowerment and is used for opening spiritual connection and intuition and cellular healing. Once you are attuned for this energy you can use it for treating yourself and others each time you activate Reiki. It is said to work at the cellular and genetic levels and is valuable for treating migraines and headaches. Many people have found that level 3 attunement increases the amount of intuitive and psychic awareness that they can comfortably access. For me I found that I started to have (initially) very vivid dreams. Sometimes DKM is spoken of as having a vocational or life purpose function because it seems to initiate dramatic changes in career and lifestyle. The functions and benefits of DKM are not necessarily limited to those attuned to master level; as all those initiated into Reiki by a master will be connected to DKM even if they are not aware of it. It is also used as a manifestation energy by some - as CKR, the power boost from Level 2 Reiki. To use DKM for manifestation you activate this energy and clearly visualize what you intend to manifest. This will not bring you things that are not in accord with your high self and soul purpose. It is taught in many paths that all disease comes from blocks forming in the energy body. Reiki treatment will help remove these blocks, free stagnant energy, restore energy to depleted areas and improve the function of the energy body. This enables physical healing and emotional, mental and spiritual wholeness. It can also clear away negativity and is a protective symbol. Another focus of this symbol is for the healing of the soul. The physical body reflects the condition of the spiritual body, and one can often effectively heal at its causal (root) level, with Reiki and DKM. The Dai Ko Myo is the strongest Reiki symbol and it can replace (if you choose) all the others. Once you have been attuned to this symbol it is strongly advised to use it with all your Reiki works. Your energy work will receive an extra boost and you constantly draw this strong energy through your energetic system. The Dai Ko Myo is the symbol which transmits the Reiki attunements, initiations and empowerments.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

The Dai Ko Myo is known as the master symbol. This is the function or energy that the Reiki master activates to do the attunements that make the Reiki energies permanently accessible to a new practitioner. The translation of Japanese Master Hiroshi Doi’s explanation of this symbol: “Dai Ku Myo, Empowerment, Characteristics of 4th symbol - Symbolizes the entire universe. The highest symbol in Reiki-ho. For activating the 7th Chakra. The meaning and functions i. The whole universe is made of vibration/light. The 4th symbol has the function of transmitting subtle vibration of love, healing and harmony for all beings by resonating with conscious energy in a higher dimension. ii. This is considered to be a very sacred symbol and given the highest expressions like “God inviting symbol”, “The symbol for guiding spiritual awakening”. But the symbol has its value in the function of connecting to sacred being and becoming part of it. The source (higher dimension) represented by the symbol is honorable but the symbol itself is just a tool”.

Dai Ko Myo will, for all purposes of Reiki, function with or without the other symbols. The spiritual bodies affect the physical body. Healing at the master level is thought to directly affect the higher spiritual body template and can lead to immense transformation and healing on all levels of being and possibly at times, miracles.

Additional Symbols. I would like to add some more symbols for your use, taken from other forms of Reiki and healing.

Silver Violet Flame. Although not part of traditional Usui Reiki, this symbol was passed on to me when I was doing my Reiki master course and as I find it particularly useful I feel that this Shambhala Reiki symbol will be of use to you too. Silver violet Flame consumes all negative feelings and emotions. A spiritual antiseptic for all to come clean. Use this Mantra:

I AM a Being of Silver Violet Fire.

I AM the purity God desires. Use this Mantra to use in daily lives. It has a cleansing effect. You can flood your consciousness, your minds, your physical bodies with this spiritual antiseptic and all will become clean. Also, chant this mantra and you will find that it brings the Silver Violet energy into your space which will heighten the vibration. Chant this mantra a few dozen times a day and you will find that every thing starts to become Silver Violet. The vibration gets into the walls of your house, into the metal work of your car, into the metals of your jewelry, into your energy system, both physical and spiritual. You will actually start being Silver Violet! Allow your voice to speak it. It is better spoken out loud and with intent because although saying it to yourself has an effect on your four body system, it doesn’t have as much effect on everything that surrounds you. Think about how much service you can do for creation just by chanting this mantra out loud, - you will be affecting everything around you. Use it to transmute situations that are undesirable to you. You can also leave this Silver Violet Flame behind you wherever you go. Bring down the fire and install it in any place. It will be there then for the transmutation of all, not only the humans, but the animals, the birds, the Earth. Use before each treatment to cleanse the etheric body (aura) and the physical body. Intend the Silver Violet Flame through the Heart Centre, to open the heart further to the love vibration. This is what Germaine said about it: Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 10 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition “I am Germaine , keeper of the Silver Violet Flame. Use this Silver Violet Flame to consume all negative feelings and emotions. Just consign all that aggravates you into the Silver Violet Flame. So, when you find your thoughts moving in directions you do not want them to move in, thoughts that are interrupting the flow os Divine Energy into your physical body just consign them to the Silver Violet Flame.

Raku. The Lightening Bolt of Enlightenment, Raku symbolizes liberation from duality. Signifies completion, grounding. Pronounced Ra-Koo Make this symbol down the back of the the person being initiated, from head to foot, in order to complete and ground the attunement. Using Raku at the end of the attunement to separate the auras for grounding. Sense of firmness and solidness. Earth energies - spring like colours of light greens, and yellows. Can be used in karmic release work. This symbol is used in the Master level of Reiki in the attunement process. It is used to seal the attunement process by closing the Chakras of the student and to ground the student. It also plays a part in separating the energies of the student and that of the master after the attunement has been completed thus ending the attunement process.

Om. This symbol is pronounced "Ah uu mm". It is a Sanskrit symbol used in many eastern spiritual practices. Represents the Universe functioning as a whole unit; A father/mother beckoning creation, U = son/daughter the evolution of individual souls; and M absorbing of all that is created. The sacred sound of the Universe. Om cleans, stabilizes and seals the aura. It brings in light, purifies, protects and connects with GOD. Om is chanted and visualized in gold by and individual or in groups to be used for healing or psychic attunement; sound psychically charges the air with prana which is under the direction of thought and can be directed specifically. It is recognized as the primal sound and chanted to control natural manifestations; represents the three manifestations of all life: creation, preservation and destruction Use in the initiation process to seal in the other symbols or to seal each part of the attunement. Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 11 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Om opens the crown and if drawn above the head opens a pathway to God and higher consciousness. I have found that repeating the Mantra "Ah um mm" that the Reiki energy doubles, it is also good for your Chakras. It puri fi es, protects, sea ls a nd stabilizes the aura. It opens the crown Chakra when drawn above your head, opens the heart when drawn above the body‌ opening us to unconditional and divine love. It reminds us of the unity and oneness of all humanity. And, in opening our crown and heart to unconditional love it joins with our higher consciousness and, to the highest of all, the God consciousness.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

The Kenyoku Technique: Dry bathing The Japanese word “kenyoku” means “dry bathing”. Kenyoku purifies body and soul, instead of the old-fashioned way of splashing ice cold water over yourself (traditional Japanese method). It strengthens your energy and helps you to detach from your clients, situations, thoughts and emotions. It brings you into the present moment. Many times during the day we get lost in our own minds, thoughts, problems, joys and other emotions. Or we get drawn into those of our fellow human beings. Neither situation helps us on the path to self discovery. When we are drawn into our own daydreams or those of another person, we lose ourselves an enter into an automatic train of thought, which is absolutely involuntary. It is like a monkey swinging from one branch to another to the next, ad infinitum. We miss out on the present, the only time that really exists. It is difficult for us to break the identification with our thoughts because it keeps us engaged in mental or emotional activities. These are various ways to practice Kenyoku. Dr Usui was said to have taught it like this (version 1) Place your right hand on the left side of your chest, over the collarbone. Now stroke down gently across your chest to the right hipbone. Do the same with your left hand, starting on the right side of your chest, over the collarbone. Stroke down gently toward your hipbone. Repeat the motion once more with the right hand. Now use your right hand to gently stroke from your left wrist over the palm of your left hand, past your fingertips. Then use your left hand to gently stroke from your right wrist over the palm of your right hand, past your fingertips. (Some Reiki schools repeat this motion once more with the right hand). A variation also widely practiced today (version 2) Place your right hand on the left side of your chest, over the collarbone. Now stroke down gently across your chest to the right hipbone. Do the same with your left hand, starting on the right side of your chest, above the collarbone. Stroke down gently towards your left hipbone. Repeat the motion with your right hand. Now place your right hand on your left shoulder and stroke down gently over the inside of your arm and the outside of your hand, past your fingertips. Do the same stroke with your left hand over the outside of your right hand. (Some Reiki schools repeat this motion once more with the right hand). Here is a further variation (version 3) Place your right hand on the left side of your chest, over the collarbone. Now stroke down gently across your chest to the tight hipbone. Do the same with your left hand, starting on the right side of your chest, above the collarbone. Stroke down gently toward your left hipbone. Repeat the motion with your right hand. Now place your right hand on your left shoulder and stroke down gently over the inside of your left arm and the palm of your left hand, past your fingertips. Do the same stroke with your left hand over the inside of your right arm.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition In some schools of Reiki, they add a Gassho (Namaste, or hands together at heart level in a prayer position) at the end of the Kenyoku technique. If this feels good to you, then include it.

Attunements and Rituals - Guidelines The degree of ritual and ceremony accompanying a Reiki attunement varies from almost none to major productions including smudging with sage, chanting, bell ringing, drumming, speaking in tongues, and great formality. It is kind of a well known secret that whatever ritual or ceremonial form you use to conduct the attunement it will work provided your intention is set and the recipients accept the attunement. The structure you decide to use should be one that is appropriate and comfortable for you and your students. During the attunement it is intended that the attunee be connected to the energies and that they be able to access the energies by using the symbols or by intention. Sometimes I think the simpler the better. Reiki is very simple, that is its beauty. Most of the additional parts that involve anything other than the straightforward attunement process are not really Reiki, but you can develop your own style as you gain experience and work in a way that you feel most comfortable with. Some Reiki masters perform elaborate open ing rituals before the attunement such as casting a circle, or smudging with sage, toning and chanting - these are really not required or part of Usui Reiki. It now seems that Usui Sensei may have joined his students in reciting the Reiki principles and singing some inspirational poems together before classes. Most Reiki teachers will clear and/or charge the energy in the room with Reiki before the students arrive and the class begins. You can use CKR and SVF very well for this purpose. If it is part of your own personal path you may well have invited angels, ascended masters, guides, placed a healing grid or gateway in the room and so on to support the most complete and perfect class and attunement possible. You may also say prayers or do a meditation or a self treatment with Reiki before the class starts. In any case the Reiki teacher should have and set the intention to conduct the most complete and suitable class and to successfully intend to attune the students to be fully competent practitioners at the level of the class being attuned into. You will want to see to everyone’s comfort and assure that they have chosen to come to the class to be attuned and understand what will be taking place during the class. Generally the attunement s done or begun fairly early in the class period after some introduction because most of the instruction, symbols and practice is easier to learn after the attunement than before. You will want to explain what might be experienced during the attunement. Offer some preliminary information about attunements in general and explain what the specific attunement will do. If you are doing a hands on attunement tell the students where you will be touching them. Remind everyone that they need to accept the attunement willingly and that the attunement will make them permanently able to connect with and use Reiki at the level of the attunement. You may wish to have a break for a snack or lunch before the attunement so participants won’t be distracted by hunger or thirst. Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 14 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition You will probably attune one person at a time and will want to decide if you will take each person into a different area one at a time or have the people who are waiting or who have already been attuned to sit around in a meditative state of participation and whether you want to play some music if you are going to have people sitting around waiting for you to finish attunements.

How Attunements work. It is the intention of the master connecting to Reiki energy that confers the ability to use Reiki unctions, rather than the actual ceremony or drawing of the symbols in the aura. During the attunement he Reiki master intends that the recipient will be connected to the energies and that they be able to access the energies. Te recipient makes an intention to accept the attunement to Reiki. It is the intention of he master that confers the ability to use the Reiki functions, rather than the drawing of the symbols within the aura. You can think of attunements as being like fixing a radio; sort of the energetic equivalent of cleaning of the connectors attaching the wires, finding the channels you like and setting the channel finder so that when someone wants to connect they just have to turn on their radio and push the channel button and turn up the volume. It might be more accurate to say that the Reiki master lets the “installer” in and holds the toolbox while the work is done.

The Process of Healing The ideas laid out below are purely ideas to help the growth of the mind and give us a possible solution to understanding the healing process - it is no way a doctrine forced upon you to believe, simply a possible answer to help you. We can begin by recognizing that whether or not we acknowledge it, everyone carries pain to some degree.

When something painful happens, we may ask “Why me?” When we are young we answer this question to the best of our understanding, but often we do not draw the correct conclusion. Something is wrong with me, I am basically unlovable, or it was my fault, are erroneous conclusions that seem to make sense at the time. These false beliefs are empowered by the painful emotions of the experience. Until they are released and resolved, this emotional energy is locked into our physical and subtle bodies; restricting the flow of positive life force energy on all level: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. If the experience is an extremely painful memory, we may block the memory from the consciousness mind, and attempt to resolve it by forgetting it. The memory ten becomes stored in the sub-consciousness mind, where we may carry it for he rest of our lives and into future lifetimes, until it is resolved. This is partly the basis of karma; we create opportunities in this lifetime to resolve the false conclusions of the past. We often draw painful experiences into our present lives that are based upon beliefs such as “I am always the victim”. Sometimes these experiences are an attempt at resolution, Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 15 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition and sometimes they are the perpetuation of a belief that has continued over lifetimes. The keys for resolution are also present in some manner, and one must choose to look for them.

The first step of healing is to clear negative emotions and beliefs. In oder to do this, we must first become aware of our beliefs. We must be brave enough to allow the painful feelings that empower the beliefs to the surface. This can be a difficult process because we are vulnerable when we express our deepest feelings and can be hurt by a lack of support or acceptance. Often, rather than risk being hurt again, we choose to be silent and try to forget, much to the detriment of the physical and emotional health. It is helpful to understand the vulnerability so that we can create the necessary support. It is helpful to understand the vulnerability so that we can create the necessary support. For me Reiki helped me to deal with the bereavement I felt when my father passed away from cancer, that I had hidden from myself for 20 or so years. I was able to look at this and pick it apart and complete the healing process. A painful emotion, like “dis-ease in the physical body, is a call for help and attention to an experience that needs resolution and compassion. Expressing an emotion is actually a release of pain or blocked energy that often illuminates a particular memory and the negative belief attached to it. Once the feelings are expressed and some of the blocked emotional energy is released, we can see most clearly what is needed to affirm. The combination of new understanding and released tension healed the situation. The idea of expressing emotions is sometimes considered a sign of weakness and has significantly contributed to our lack of well-being. This idea is part of the masculine belief system in our culture and contributes to a great deal of unnecessary suffering. When we hold feelings inside and try to ignore them, we become more emotionally insensitive, unable to feel and express deep joy, and less able to understand the needs of others. A key to clearing emotional pain and become more aware of our limiting beliefs is compassion and self -acceptance. We often wish to tell of our troubles to someone else, so that we receive a it of unconditional love and compassion. We need to encourage each other to listen to the unspoken words of doubt and discouragement, express our emotional pain, and give acceptance and love. We need to encourage ourselves to merge with the compassion that is within us. Compassion can be visualized and felt as a friend, a Guardian Angel, a free spirited child, a spiritual teacher, or in any manner we wish. As we continue to ask for compassion and self acceptance as part f the release process, the emotional pain lessens and experiences can be resolved. Reiki, being pure love, brings forth powerfully the highest vibrations of universal life force energy for the releasing, healing, clearing and purifying of the entire system bringing forth harmony, love, peace and enlightenment. The various kingdoms of Nature, such as crystals/gemstones, flower essences, essential oils, herbs, are other sources of compassion and self-acceptance. Each is a unique expression of unconditional love, and we can experience that love once we learn to merge with them on a spiritual level. Depending on how we choose to work with their energies at Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 16 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition a given time, they can help us to release and heal emotional pain. The process of clearing negative beliefs and emotions can be described in terms of energy flow. Imbalance can be sensed as blocked energy; the clearing of this blocked energy is a phenomenon of dispersal which results in the restoration of the energy flow.

The second step in healing is an infusing or building process. This step, which is often integrated with clearing and releasing, involves building new and positive ways of thinking to replace the incorrect, imbalanced patterns. This can be likened to listening to a new track on a new iPod. It is necessary not only to express and release emotional energy, but to identify and change the negative beliefs. Otherwise it is possible to get stuck once again in the emotional pain. The building process takes effort and patience because it is easier to think and act in the old ways. Working with written and spoken affirmations is one of the best ways to build new confidence. Building is also an expansion process in which we go beyond our limitations and travel in new territory, doing things we might not have dreamed possible earlier. Once again, compassion and self-acceptance are key elements. Compassion for ourselves and others gives us patience, because building is a step-by-step process. All the kingdoms of nature teach us that growth is gradual. We need to cultivate persistence and determination as well as delight in being in the moment. Once again, we must accept ourselves as we are. In terms of energy movement, building infuses and expands energies, rather than disperses. There can be a sense of heightened well-being on all levels, a stepping up of physical energies, or an increased appreciation of our unique individualities. This movement is more like a coming together and elevating, rather than a dispersal of energy. In this life we are learning to affirm and express our unique purposes and services.

The third step is spiritual expansion. In releasing imbalances and building new thought patterns, we emphasize our own individualities and services. Spiritually expansive energy lifts us out of our minds, emotions and physical body and into a Unity with All Life (called Christ Consciousness). As we merge with the infinite consciousness we expand beyond rational knowledge. Integrated with the growth process of clearing, building and spiritually expanding our understanding is the need for grounding. During times of change it is necessary to focus on what supports and roots us. That which grounds one is like a core of balance from which we release and expand.

Attunements and workshops In order to maximize he effectiveness of the Divine power and Love energy that you will generate during your workshop or treatment session, you might consider setting up the energies in the room before the workshop or the treatment session. The following are suggested steps you an use before working in any space. Set up and position all the chairs, tables and shrine/alter table. Light your candles. Stand in front of the centre of your alter table/shrine. Call in Archangel michael to line up his legions of light in each corner of the room. Next, ask Archangel michael to line up his legions of light around the perimeter of the room to join up the pillars of light in the corners of the room or space you are working in. Ask Spirit to manifest a canopy of light over the top and a platform of light underneath you, totally encapsulating the room or space that you are working in. Now call in the Ascended Masters, Archangels and all the Angelic Realms, any other Beings of Light and Love for the entire duration of the workshop or treatment session. As you complete this setting up of the Divine Power of Love and Light, ask Spirit for total protection for yourself and your participants during the full duration of the workshop or treatment session. Ask for help for anyone that may need it during the workshop. Express that it is an honour to serve Mother/Father God and humanity in this way, and ask for assistance in presenting the workshop in a clear, concise and loving manner. At this time, add any other request you might care to add that is important to you. Stand in silence in this position for as long as you are guided and then with a final thank you, open your eyes and relax. During this process you may be intuitively guided to add other suggestions given by Spirit, as each place is different and may need something special for that particular place or group of people.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

Preparing for an Attunement If you have not already done so, prepare the whole space using the preparation described above.

Part 1: !

Prepare the area for the student.

Light candles, and incense. Smudge if not already done so. Music is a good accompaniment: - select instrumental, chanting or nature sounds. Chair for the student, and a cushion in front for you to kneel on. Crystals amplify and enhance energies, if desired they can be placed around the chair of the student. A smoky quartz for grounding is a good idea. Essential oils can be used if desired. Mist the area or have an oil diffuser. Lavender is always a good choice, sandalwood for grounding or others that promote a meditative state.

Part 2:!

Preparing the student.

Tell the student what is going to happen. You will begin the attunement standing behind he student’s back with your hands on their shoulders. If at Level 1: Opening each Chakra. If at Levels 2 & 3: Downloading symbols and activating the crown, zeal point, hands, fingertips, heart, and foot Chakras. Return to behind the student to complete, ending with hands on shoulders once again. This is the signal to tell that the attunement is complete. Tell the student to stay with the attunement energy and keep their eyes closed for as long as they would like - enjoy the experience! The student should sit on the chair in a meditative state. Breathing deeply and gently. Setting intentions for the attunement.

Part 3:!

Preparing yourself.

Clear yourself using Silver-Violet Flame. Ground yourself completely with Mother Earth by sending down a beam of light from your feet and root Chakra into the diamond heart of Mother Earth. Put awareness to the Source Star (12th Chakra), bring Reiki and Divine Love and Light energies into your heart Chakra and then directly down to the centre of Mother Earth. State intentions such as: “Mother/Father God, I am one with you. I am an instrument of your will.” “I am an open and clear channel for the attunement energies for Reiki healing”. Call in Beings of Light to assist. Ask for Reiki attunement Guides to guide the attunement. Prayer of gratitude. AFFIRM: “Reiki On” - three times (3). Call in all symbols and pass them down through your body.

Intend that you will fully initiate the student to Reiki Level 1. Crown Chakra: Draw Dai Ko Myo and pat it into the crown Chakra. Blow into the Crown and intend to move the symbol through the brain to neck and shoulders. Place hands on top of the head and silently say: “I am activating and opening the crown Chakra of (person’s name) to Reiki 1” Draw CKR (3 times) to seal. Zeal point Chakra: Place your hands on the back of the head at the zeal point (occipital ridge) Silently say: “I am activating and opening the zeal point Chakra of (person’s name) to Reiki 1”. Draw CKR (3 times) to seal. Fingertip Chakras: Reach over the shoulder and take the hands in yours and put them into a prayer position. (Gassho) Lift up the hands in one movement to above the level of the student’s head. Say silently: “I am activating and opening the fingertip Chakras of (person’s name) to Reiki 1”. Draw CKR (3 times) to seal. Palm Chakras: Go round to the front of the student and kneel down. Take their hands out of the prayer position and open them, palms upwards, holding one in each hand. Allow time for discussion of the experience - any images or messages, colours or sounds, etc‌ these may be important to the recipient so should be encouraged to discuss their feelings. Encourage them to write these feelings and experiences down that they may have had during the attunements. It can be very interesting to look back at!

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

Remote Attunements Just as you can do Reiki treatments for people anywhere in the world it is possible for Attunement to be done over great distances too. Remote attunements enable recipients to use Reiki but will not substitute for classes, hands on experience and training taken in person. Reiki is simple but not so simple that one need not apply themselves to learning the system. Many people who are dedicated, motivated self starters have become competent Reiki practitioners after a remote attunement. People who have family wellness emergencies might benefit from a remote attunement to give more confidence to their efforts at hands on and spiritual healing with only minimal training. In the long term most people do much better with a class taken in person. Participating in Reiki circle shares and discussions is one way to round out your Reiki experience. Developing a light touch and knowing how to be sure that you are using Reiki and not your own energy is easier to learn in person for most people. There are opportunities in many cities for practitioners to meet and treat each other and practice. There are also many email discussion lists and forums dedicated to Reiki and Reiki training. Reiki masters have a responsibility to ensure as much as possible that their students really do have an understanding of the basic skills ad ethics of healing practice. Remote attunements can be valuable in emergency situations such as when someone in a remote area has a specific urgent need to be able to use Reiki. To do a Remote attunement you use the “direct intention” method. Connect energetically with the recipient as though connected by cords of light and allow the attunement to run by intention and visualization. Remote attunement and direct transmission both in person and at distance is an ancient and respected way of transmitting elements of spiritual awakening, wisdom, information or spiritual abilities between teachers and others. This is well known in some Buddhist paths. It is true that with Reiki most of the records of this refer to transmissions/initiations/ attunements/openings either to devoted followers at great distance or to transfer the mantel of leadership. The transmission is not the system and was never meant to be a substitute for the “consistent faith, practice and study” of the precepts and practices of the particular spiritual school from which the transmission came or personal contact with a teacher and a community of experience. Whether you are attuned by remote attunement or in a class setting you are responsible for your own practice, study and personal development as a Reiki practitioner or master. There are some circumstances where a remote attunement can provide a lifesaving tool for healing and happiness, particularly for friends and family. If you do send a remote attunement you may either do a direct transmission and visualization or use a proxy. Remember that grounding and protection are very important as always. The student may lie down or sit in a comfortable location. They can get up and move around during the attunement or even leave the area and still receive the full attunement.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Most people do prefer to be in a quiet meditative receptive state for the attunements and often sit with their eyes closed, with palms upwards on their laps/knees or held in a praying hands position. For an absentee attunement the time is agreed upon in advance, if possible the student will try to be in a receptive and accepting or eager to receive mental state, although it is not absolutely necessary that the student be paying attention or even be awake to receive the attunement. Getting the attunement as an absentee does require that the recipient commit enough study time to learn and master the techniques on their own. Reiki is an intuitive practice but studying the material thoroughly gives intuition a place to start from. The most common challenge of remote attunement is helping the recipient learn to turn on and know that they are running the Reiki. Some people are expecting rather more dramatic effects than do occur and may have difficulty sensing the subtle energy when they do activate it. Remember back to when you did your level 1 and the subtle differences you experienced and how you discussed these feelings? The teacher may specify the Reiki level to be attuned - for example simply ask that the student receive those energies that are in the higher good and in accord with their soul purpose. The teacher will activate the energies by intention and then activate the attunement by intention. The energies will flow into the teacher’s and student’s crown Chakras and run through until it is finished clearing blocks, opening channels and connecting the energies, permanently enabling the student to run Reiki. You can set the intention that they be able to run Reiki and other energies and energy functions and procedures that they already may have, or that they later acquire by intention, with and without using the Mantras and symbols they traditionally used in Reiki, or the Mantras, Mudras, breath techniques, etc that are used in other systems. This offers the ability to use Reiki to people who are unable to activate Reiki with the traditional methods. Another advantage when you intend to give the ability to activate the energies automatically, with or without the symbols if appropriate is that Reiki can be run quickly when speed is of importance. The energies are the same just the activation method that is different. But you can set the intention as you want respecting the students right to receive only what serves their highest good of course. These attunements are I feel directed by the Source. The teacher just opens the channel and grounds the energies. Once you activate the energy and the attunement by intention either with or without consciously using the symbols, the energies will flow into your crown Chakra and flow throughout your body also flowing to or crossing to the student’s aura. Always intend that the attunement be in accord with the soul purpose and highest good of the recipient. To work with specific intentions: Intend that the initiate’s crown, brow, heart, hands, eyes, throat, feet, voice, aura structures, meridians, and all other possible appropriate channels be connected with and to the ability to use and share Reiki. Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 28 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Intend that the Soulstar and the Earthstar Chakras consciously become active, that any blocks and impediments to the energy be removed, and to receive information and abilities that will best serve them. Intend that all the Chakras be cleared, aligned, harmonized, locked into the central channel and mended so that they are attuned in such a way as to be easily connected to and receive spiritual guidance, energies and healing for themselves and others that the energies be set and sealed. For the Second Degree intend that they be able to use the second degree functions with or without the symbols. For the Master attunement you can intend that the recipient be able to attune and pass on the ability to practice Reiki to others for all levels and facilitate the ability to increase the ability of others to accept healing and connect with spiritual information and energies. You may move well beyond verbalization and perceive the attunement process and intentions such as pulsating vibrations and/or colour and sound. Sometimes specific images and information or direction is conveyed as the attunement continues. Usually most people can feel stages and changes in the attunement as it runs. Of course, not everyone does feel energy or have any visual effects. An attunement usually runs around 10 - 15 minutes though where time allows it may take an hour or more. When the attunement is complete, it will taper to a stop, the attunement is concluded with the intention of energetic separation of the connection between the sender and the recipient. Intend thanks and appreciation of all participants and a return to mundane grounded awareness and a mental ending of the attunement. Say something like “The Attunement is complete. Many Reiki masters wash their hands and have the student do the same after the attunement to sever any remaining aura connection. Usually this separation occurs naturally as the attunement ends with or without direct intention or action.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

Healing Attunement An attunement can be given for healing purposes only. This attunement brings high frequency healing energies which are more powerful and effective than those given during a regular treatment. It can make the treatment more effective than those given during a regular treatment. It can make the treatment more effective by opening the aura and creating a more receptive state, and can stimulate a deep release and healing process. The healing attunement also creates the opportunity for the clients guides to work within them is a more powerful way. This attunement does not initiate the client into Reiki and can be done on anyone. It can be done on more than one client at a time.

Removing Negative Energy The Reiki Healing attunement removes negative energy in the physical body, aura and Chakras and works to help release any blocks the client chooses. Before starting, explain to the client that they must be willing to let go of the block and any other conditions in their life that the block may have created. They must be willing to make important changes in attitude and to become aware of those issues in new ways. Ask the client to focus on the block with the intention of releasing it fully and easily.

Empowering goals If there is a goal the client has had trouble achieving it is likely that there is something that needs to heal before they can achieve it. There may be unconscious negative feelings and thoughts about the goal that are blocking its achievement such as fear of failure or fear of success. Ask the client to focus on the block with the intention of releasing it fully and easily. They must be willing to take responsibility for doing whatever is necessary to achieve it while being open to new ideas and attitudes about it. A willingness to release unconscious negative attitudes about the goal is also necessary. During the attunement, it is also possible to receive insight about the goal and guidance in making plans. Sometimes a particular goal is not in harmony with a person’s life plan. If this is the case, the client may be made aware of this during the attunement.

Preparation The client sits on a chair with feet flat on the floor and hands palms down on the top of their legs. Eyes are closed and attention focussed inwardly on the purpose. A short meditation can be done to connect to the positive energies of the earth and to the positive energies from above. It s important the client locates the area in which the cause of the problem is located and to give it other dimensions. Use the following steps to do this: Ask the Client to describe the issue choosing to release. Ask the client to close their eyes and meditate/focus on the issue. Ask “if this issue was in a part of your body, in which part would it be?” The issue is located in the body wherever there is pain, tingling, etc. This is often easy to discover. If there is difficulty choosing an area, ask the client to guess and give assurance that there is no wrong answer. Ask the client to imagine that they are looking into the area chosen and ask, “If this problem had a shape, what shape would it have?”

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Do the same thing to find a color, texture, weight and sound the shape makes so that there is a clear image of the blockage. Any answer is ok, and there does not need to be a response for all questions.

Preparing yourself Stand by the client. Close your eyes and come into your heart by focussing your awareness on your heart centre and taking a few breaths. Feel your heart expanding. Set the intention within yourself for the healing attunement to take place. Place your hands on your heart, and then form your light column by visualizing a channel of light from the heart Chakra moving up from the Soul Star Chakra, through the life stream channel to the Source of All That Is I Heart of Mother/Father God in the Great Central Sun; then from the heart, moving down through to the Earth Star Chakra, traveling all the way into the crystal core of Mother Earth, connecting to the Diamond Heart. Feel connected to Mother/ Father God and Mother Earth. You are radiating pure light and love. Say a prayer and call the Beings of Light, spirit guides and guardian angels to assist, guide and protect.

Grounding Guide the client to focus on their root Chakra and to visualize or sense a beam of light extending down into the centre of Mother Earth; to imagine their feet firmly plated into the Earth. Tell them that at any time if there is pain or sensation, to reinforce the grounding, and to allow all energies to flow easily into the Earth.

The Healing Attunement Draw the Silver Violet Flame, Dai Ko Myo, and Cho Ku Rei symbols on your palm chakras. Draw the Cho Ku Rei symbol down the front of your body and intend for all your chakras to be open.

Part 1. Draw and say the name of the Silver Violet Flame symbol around the client, say the name three times and project it into the energy field. Draw and say the name of Silver Violet Flame symbol around yourself. Place both hands on top of the clients head, meditate briefly to gan energetic rapport. Draw CKR, SHK, HSZSN, DKM symbols above the head, say the name three times each, and intend that their energy fill the chakric system ad the energy field of the client. You may pass your hands down the sides of the client while stating this intention in your mind.

AFFIRM “I affirm the activation of the crown chakra, and the full chakric system of (persons name) to receive this attunement for the complete balancing of all energetic blockages, as directed by he Higher Self. Draw the DKM symbol above the crown chakra. Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 31 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Take a deep breath, and then exhale into the crown chakra visualizing the DKM symbol moving into the client’s crown chakra and down into the Heart Chakra. Say the name of the symbol 3 times, with the last one said as the symbol moves into th e Heart Chakra. As you visualize the symbol moving, guide it with your right hand. Keep the left hand on top of the head. Repeat the same with: Cho Ku Rei (x3) Sei Hei Ki (x3) HonShaZeShoNen (x3) Silver Violet Flame (x3)

Part 2. Move to the front of the client. Place hands on top of the head. Draw the master symbol over the Crown chakra. Say the name of DKM 3 times, visualizing the symbol moving from the Crown Chakra, through the third eye, the heat and into the Solar Plexus Chakra. Gently tap the top of the head 3 times with your finger tips. Repeat the same with: Cho Ku Rei (x3) Sei Hei Ki (x3) HonShaZeShoNen (x3) Silver Violet Flame (x3) Take a deep breath, and slowly exhale directed toward the solar plexus, and continue as you move up to the heart, the third eye and the crown. Continue blowing back down to the solar plexus, then back up to the crown once again. The exhalation is done in one smooth continuous motion up, and then down, then back up. As you exhale use your hands to guide the energy, placing a strong intention on the last upward motion for the full release of all low vibration energy, moving it up and completely out. If the client has given a description of the blockage, focus on this description when doing the exhaling, releasing it to the light, to the Angels.

Part 3. Move back around behind the client. Place your hands on the client’s shoulders and look down through the Crown Chakra imagining that you can see into the Heart. Look for, intend, a soft pink ball of light (this could also be green, white, lavender or gold), or imagine one being there. Place a positive affirmation in the client’s heart and subconscious mind by repeating it to yourself 3 times, intending that it be accepted by the subconscious mind to enter the heart. Examples of affirmations: You are completely healed by Divine Light and Love now. You are completely guided and cared for by Mother/Father God now. You are empowered by Divine Love, wisdom and power to achieve your highest spiritual purpose now. Move to the left side of the client. Place your right hand on the back of the client’s heart chakra, and the left hand on the front of the heart chakra. Affirm: This healing attunement is perfectly sealed with Divine Light and Love in accordance with Divine Will. We give thanks to the Source of All That Is. Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 32 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition While doing this, intend that the releasing process is sealed and complete. Move back behind the client, place hands on their shoulders once again, signaling the completion of the attunement.

Part 4. Step away form the client, say a short prayer of gratitude. Ask the angels and spirit guides to maintain and sustain the energetic release completed and continue working as directly by the client’s Higher Self. Ask the client to breathe slowly and deeply, and to slowly open their eyes. A treatment may follow if required.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

The Relationship between Reiki Teacher and Student A review of the spirit of Reiki would be very incomplete without some explanation of the complex dimension of the teacher/student relationship. This topic, which is already delicate, is particularly complicated and not always easy to understand when it comes to Reiki. So here are a few basic explanations in advance. We have many teachers in our lifetime such as our parents, siblings, relatives, school teachers, trainers, friends, “coincidental” acquaintances, advisers, colleagues, seminar leaders, and authors who speak to us through books, magazine articles, films and plays. Some of them also teach us something on the spiritual level or something, that at least helps us walk our spiritual path, our path to the light and to love. We even listen to some of our teachers when they try to give us something important to take along our path. In addition to the informal spiritual teachers, there are also those who we more or less consciously choose as such so that they help us on our path. Some accompany us only for a brief time, while others are with us for many years. How much a spiritual leader can do for us depends upon his or her competence, commitment, the conditions surrounding the encounter, our own will to get involved, and the stamina that we display as students. Perhaps you have at some point asked the ticklish question of why an individual actually needs a spiritual teacher. The answer to this question consists essentially of two perceptions: 1.

2.

The eye cannot see itself - it needs a mirror for this purpose. Human beings can only recognize and learn to sincerely accept what they are in the mirror of another person is clear, loving, and truthful for this purpose. It is absolutely adequate for this person to show these qualities during encounters that are important for the student’s spiritual growth. The fundamental principal of homeopathy, a method of natural healing established by the German physician and pharmacist Samuel Hahnemann, says: “Like cures like”. (Latin “similia similimus curantur”). Applied to human emotional life, this means that the injuries, frustrations, and fears we have suffered in relationships can only be healed in symbolically similar relationships. The individual imprisoned within himself or herself can be redeemed and become aware of the light within through the encounter with another person who, in critical situations similar to those that have caused the blocks, is willing to allow the divine to work through his or her being. Please note that one person does not redeem the other!

Time and again, I meet individuals who think the theme of the teacher/student relationship is certainly important - but only for other people. These individuals think they have personal direct conversations with the creative force and everything necessary takes place in this way. However, it seems audacious to me when people trapped in their fears, blockages and frustrations believe they can trust in their own very great ability to resonate, which is ultimately the foundation of every form of communication within the realms of light. With absolute certainty, the creative force will listen to each prayer, take our concerns seriously, and answer appropriately from the spiritual perspective. However, without training and help, working on ourselves, and a true expansion of consciousness, are we all capable of hearing the answers “from above”, recognizing the Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 34 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition divine advice, accepting it despite the turbulence of everyday life and putting it into practice in an appropriate manner? And whether we perceive and accept the divine counsel is the decisive point if we want to shape our lives in a more spiritual manner through divine help. By Walter Lubeck

Reiki Ethics for Professional Practice Naturally at the Master level Ethics are very important. The teacher/Master is not a Guru or a holy person and should not expect devotion from students. Costs and training should be provided in a complete and equitable way and promised training should be given as contracted for. The Reiki master should behave in a moral and ethical way toward all students. The Ethical standards discussed at earlier Reiki levels still apply. The information and confidences of your clients and students is confidential and not to be divulged to others. It is advisable to join a professional body or organisation as a Reiki Practitioner. (Reiki Alliance, Reiki Council, UK Reiki Federation, etc) They have professional and ethical guidelines you should abide by. See Appendix 1 for the Reiki Council Code of Ethics.

Gaia Meditation This meditation uses the Earth day frequency and root chakra to deliver a grounded sense of relaxation. A twenty minute session with this meditation will yield a rejuvenated sense in both body and spirit. It uses frequencies that are tuned to both Earth and the root chakra which help in the grounding and balancing of your energy. Additionally, the frequencies are tuned to delta waves which also help put your mind into a state of deep relaxation. This helps the mind and body 'let go' of the days tasks and slip into ethers for comfort and peace. Once you start, you will feel the profound depth of the Earth because of the tuned frequencies in this recording. A sense of joy and peace will quickly be induced. Suggested Use: This meditation can be used for relaxation, stress relief, balancing the mind, re-grounding the body, and generally 'letting go' of the days details. For maximum effect, use when you have an hour or so to fully relax, or before bed. This is Rev. O.M. Bastet, known as "OM," guiding this meditation. If you haven't already done so, find a comfortable spot, slow down, and let us become centered.....grounded...... and connected...... in this sacred circle. We include in this sacred circle everyone on the call, everyone meditating with us simultaneously, and all those who will listen to this recording, and all others who ever meditate or pray in the Gaia Minute project and all others who ever meditate or pray for the wellbeing of Gaia. So be it. Notice your breathing. Just notice. So comforting..... As we join our hearts and minds, continue to relax your body, becoming more relaxed, and centered, and grounded, and connected, with every breath. Slowing down, becoming quieter and quieter. Maybe letting out a sigh or two. Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 35 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition The quieter we are, the vaster we become, noticing our connection, noticing how each of us is a section, a part, a portion of all that is. Noticing the truth of the one awareness we all are, the one heart-field we all are. Allow your mind to roam freely, let it be as it is. You are the quiet, calm Observer of it. Just observe your mind. ….... Now, even let go of the effort of Observing. Sink down, step back, into whatever that awareness is like, of no effort whatsoever. Allowing everything to be just as it is..….. And now you can allow your awareness to expand to include your whole body, inside and outside. You might become aware of the humming tingles of life energy throughout your body. Sense your body as a single whole Being, with its own life energy. And within your body, sense your organs: your heart, your brain, your liver, your eyes, and the others. Can you feel how each organ is both a part of you and whole unto itself? Feel how each organ is alive, a living Being. Become aware how each organ has a different function and structure, be aware how they all are constantly in the most intimate communion and cooperation and synergy, to allow your whole body to be alive. And within your body and within each organ be aware of your cells. Notice how each cell is a part of you and sometimes part of an organ, and also is a whole living Being unto itself. Notice how different cells have different functions and structures, yet they are all constantly in the most intimate communion and cooperation and synergy, to allow your whole body to be alive. Zooming inside of a cell, you might have heard of mitochondria. Every cell has up to several thousand of these. Notice that they are actually independent life-forms, living beings. Their DNA is NOT human. Isn't it remarkable that they live in us, they perform functions essential to our body's survival, yet they are not “human.”. We would not survive without these Beings. Can you FEEL how they inhabit us, and we are their hosts? FEEL how they live in and on us, and we provide them with space and nourishment. Our bodies are their whole world. Can you be aware of that? And just as our whole body has organs, with specific functions, so each cell has within it certain organs, separate parts with specialized functions. Allow yourself to be aware of the organs within the cells of your organs. For a moment, peek inside your digestive system. You will find there up to a couple of hundred different species of bacterial life forms, living Beings. Their DNA is NOT human. Your life depends on them. They perform functions essential to our body's survival. Yet they are not “human.” They inhabit us, and we are their hosts. They live in and on us, and we provide them with space and nourishment. Our bodies are their whole world. Notice that. So what is our body? A whole living being, with parts which are living Beings, and with some parts who are not even the same life-form as us. We are their entire world. How complex! What a symphony we are! Can you allow yourself to experience that? More remarkably, we don't have to know all this, to live. Can you sense how there seems to be some overarching Intelligence which orchestrates all this communion, communication, synergy, and cooperation? Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 36 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Just such a whole Being, is our beloved Mother Gaia. She has her body and body parts just like us. Our parts are organs, limbs, skin. Her parts are mountains, lakes, oceans, continents, molten core. She has her inhabiting life-forms, just like us. We have bacteria and mitochondria. She has insects, plants, amphibians, crustaceans, cetaceans, humans, fish, birds..... And just like our bodies, her body doesn't have to know about all this, to live. There seems to be some overarching Intelligence which orchestrates all this communion, communication, synergy, cooperation which allows her to live and thrive. She is our whole world, just as our bodies are the whole world to our parts and our inhabitants. Feel that. Sense that. When we meditate on Gaia, I suggest we sometimes regard her body just as we regard our own. I suggest sometimes we expand our identity to occupy her body, transcending and including our own. SENSE the parts and the whole, in her body just like in ours. SENSE the communion of the various parts and lifeforms, all contributing to health and thriving, in her body just like in yours. SENSE the hum of vibrating life energy in her body and in yours. AFFIRM and rejoice in the harmony, communion, and synergy of all those parts and inhabitants, for optimal health, in your body, and in hers. You are increasing the harmony and communion among all of Gaia's life-forms. Take a few moments to resonate with all that....... Slowly and gently now, add to your awareness this time, and this place, this space, the details of your life, your body. Move when you are ready, get up and go about your day, when you are ready. As you go forward in life, carry this awareness of the world of your body, and the world of Gaia's body, and how you and your parts, are parts of her body, living life together in communion and harmony. Knowing that you are radiating this communion and harmony, bringing more and more of her inhabitants into that life energy, that lifehumming vibration. So be it. Amen. Shanti. Shalom. Blessed Be. Namaste. (Approx. 15 minutes long.) SOURCE: The Gaia Minute Forum

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition

Reiki Exercises Exercise: Reiki Breathing Exercise 1. Make yourself comfortable, either sitting down or lying on your back and close your eyes. Pay attention to your breath and follow its rhythm. Notice how it flows in and out. 2. Put your hands on your body wherever you feel drawn to or where you feel tension. Use your intuition to locate the spot in your body that needs relaxation the most. 3. Direct your breath consciously and repeatedly to this place. Imagine that your breath is the Universal Life Energy which flows through you. Let it collect and expand under your hands and peace gradually spreads from that place beneath your hands throughout your entire body. 4. After a short while (about five minutes) place your hands on another part of your body. Once again breathe into your hands during the whole exercise. You may find that your breath changes in some positions as the body stores memories and experiences which can now be awakened. It is not necessary to probe feelings or initiate stronger breathing. Just allow yourself to let go and to plunge into this feeling of flowing. 5. Move on to two further places on your body and charge them with energy. 6. Slowly open your eyes, stretch yourself, and return to consciousness. You will feel more relaxed, calmer, and more centered. Exercise: To Magnify the Light of God. 1.

Make intent into your heart that when you put either hand on your heart that you are connected immediately into your heart, which connects into the heart of God in the great Central Sun. With this intent said on a regular basis at least once a day you will manifest this. 2. What this will also do is to magnify the light of God going into your heart so that it will now be doubled. When this becomes a reality, you will find yourself going forward twice as fast. 3. This will also accelerate all healing and manifesting that you do in your life. 4. Your higher self will also come more fully within your body. Exercise: To become the Sound Of God. 1. 2.

3. 4.

5.

Practice on a regular basis saying I AM, I AM and I AM. Keep saying I AM out aloud. What you are doing is saying the vibration of God. Eventually, depending on how much you have brought your I AM Presence or Higher Self into you, your voice will eventually fade away and no sound, only a whisper will come from your voice. What you are doing is becoming the sound and vibration of God in the greatest Central Sun. When your voice has become a whisper, you know that your vibration has become the vibration of God in the Great Central Sun. Another way of wording this is to say your vibration is now ray fourteen, which is the clear light of God. The clear light of God is the highest vibration you can carry in your body on earth. It is a finer energy than the finest gold energy of God. When you become the sound of God you are now healing all sounds on earth. Sound is vibration and vibration becomes the vibration of God. By saying I AM you become the vibration of God, which is so fine you will not feel it in your physical body.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Exercise: Light of God and Mother Earth 1. 2. 3.

4. 5.

6.

Put your hands together as if you were praying in prayer position. Point your thumbs towards your heart. State your intent that the light from your I AM Presence or Higher Self goes from your heart into your hands. Point your two thumbs, which are placed together, into your heart and aim the pointed fingers towards the third eye. You may bend your head so your third eye touches your fingers. This light goes from the heart to the third eye chakra to the crown chakra and then to the soul star 6-8 inches above your head which brings in your Higher Self. This light will then descend into your heart and with intent ask the light to go to the diamond heart of Mother Earth and bringing it back up into your heart. You are now able to heal with the light of God in the consciousness of Mother Earth. When you have the light or energies coming through your hands from your Higher Self, with repeated use, the light will widen the channels in your hands, until you are bringing much higher light multiples into your hands.

Exercise: expanding the zeal point 1.

2. 3. 4.

5.

6.

7.

Place your left hand on your heart chakra. Call in the light of God to fill your heart and envision a golden sun in your heart expanding and expanding, until all of infinity, which is endless, is included. If you do not envision your inner sight, just feel the energy or light and state your intent. You may not visualize but will be very acute with feelings, vibrations or knowing. Now what we would like you to do is open your zeal point chakra, which is in the centre of the back of your head about three inches above your neck. By intent call on your Higher Self or the God of Your Being to bring light into your zeal point chakra. You will now have your heart filled with light, which includes all of God as you stretched it into infinity and to your zeal point chakra, which will now be filled with light. Keep your left hand on your heart the whole time you are filling your heart and zeal point with light. Whatever way you use the healing, just continue with the healing. The amount of light coming into you in the way for healing will now be tripled.

Example Affirmations I surrender all that I AM to the God that I AM I give to the God that I AM all that I AM and all that I ever will be and all that I ever have been. I fully embody my Higher Self I bring all thoughts from the past into my heart and give to the God of My Being. My body is a temple of God and all the energies within are peaceful and loving. I AM free of all disease and I give thanks to the God for My Being. And excellent affirmation by Sananda for healing and one of the most powerful affirmations to say is: Heal me by Love Heal me by Love Heal me by Love Cosmic Christ Love Fiery Christ Love Of the Mighty I AM Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 39 -

About being a Reiki Master - suggested values The Empowerment Symbol Using the Symbol How to give an attunement How to give a distant attunement Healing Attunement Practice doing attunements Chakra balancing Guided Meditation Additional possibilities (other healing functions not Reiki as such) Teaching Reiki Discuss class formats

The teacher must decide how they want to teach and how long each class will be. Very few people have time for a classic apprenticeship of one or more years. Anyone may take Reiki 1 - often with traditional Western Reiki the class is held over one weekend or Friday evening and the weekend to allow time to space out the 4 part attunements. Another pattern is just taking one day for Reiki 1 Reiki 2 can be done either in combination with Reiki 1 or separately. Often it is recommended that you wait at least a month after taking Reiki 1 and practice self treatments daily if possible and treat at least 10 other people before taking level 2 class. Most times this class is taught either in one day or in one weekend but some teaches do this over a longer time frame. I waited 6 years to take my Level 2 qualification. The requirement and time devoted to the Reiki Master can be extremely varied. While some teach all three levels in a weekend and this is successful for many, most teachers recommend a wait of at least 6 months to a year after Reiki 2 training. Some teachers require students to meet at least once a month for a year after the Reiki 2 training and do many supervised treatments. Some teachers require students to keep a Reiki journal and provide documentation of 50 to 100 treatments before accepting them into a master class. Some teachers require their students to write their own manual before certifying them. Other teachers have just done the attunement and taught the empowerment symbol and a way to attune and that is it. This is clearly not adequate though with perseverance one can teach and fill in the gaps. Many teachers do divide the master level up in to 2 separate sections doing the attunement and basic teaching in the first part and focussing on teaching Reiki in the second part. There are all kinds of possibilities for ways to develop your class outlines and materials. Most good Reiki teachers will be open for follow up either in person or by phone and email. Keeping in touch and up to date with Reiki developments is also a good idea. I wish you well on your Reiki path.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Attunement sequences For each level of Reiki there are attunement sequences. Instructions to pass on these Attunements are not generally taught until level III Master/teacher . The reason for this is that usually only a “Master” can attune someone into different levels of Reiki, but there are exceptions. These being some people that are naturally gifted at healing and as such are already in tune with the Universal energy, or they have been attuned by Distance Attunement(s), or even that they have attuned themselves; I have never experienced this myself, but I don’t disbelieve it because everybody’s energy connections are different and some people may be able to do this.

Reiki Plain and Simple: A comprehensive Guide to Usui Shiki Ryoho

Introduction

Reiki Master Training Manual

In traditional Usui Shiki Ryoho there are three levels. These are Level I, Level II and Level III. In level I, the emphasis is on self healing. You are given an empowerment to help you remember that you are and always have been Reiki. You are taught the five principles

kyo dake wa just for today okolu na don't get angry shinpai suna don't worry kansha shite be grateful goo hage me work hard hito ni shinsetsuni be kind to others to assist you in keeping mindfulness and setting the intent. You are taught hand positions so that you can treat self and others. In the level II, you are taught the Reiki symbols, emotional healing, distance healing and you receive another attunement. In the third degree, you are taught the Reiki master symbol (Dai Ko Myo), what it means, given a third empowerment, and taught to attune others. Some see level III as the completion of their Reiki training. In reality there is nothing to complete, nothing to attain, and this gives you nothing you did not already have. It is not an end but a new beginning. It is a return to simplicity that we had when we learned Reiki I and had no symbols and just the energy. It is the greatest gift to be able to share Reiki with others and it is a joyful thing to do and share in attunements. The symbol of third degree Reiki is the Dai Ko Myo which means the "great shining light". The goal of level three Reiki is to learn to live always in the light, to *be* the light. Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Teacher curriculum for this manual includes the traditional Usui symbols, attunements and the knowledge to pass them. For those wishing to also study the Usui/Tibetan Symbols and system visit the Usui/Tibetan Page. The Reiki Master or Level III consists of learning the master symbol, receiving the attunement, and learning the attunement process. For those wishing to learn the "Tibetan" symbols Fire Serpent, Dumo, and Raku, visit the Usui/Tibetan Level IIIb Section of this manual. Learning and Using the Reiki Master Symbol Dai Ko Myo - The Usui Master Symbol The Usui Master Symbol has several meanings. The most common is "The Great Shining Light". Another translation might be "Great Being of the Universe Shine on Me." In Zen practice, I have seen it stated as "Treasure House of the great beaming Light," and is symbolic of one's "Buddha Nature" and of states of enlightenment. Usui developed Reiki from his experience on Mt. Kurama. He had a satori, a moment of oneness, an awakening, to his true nature. In that oneness, his previous training came together for him in a way such that he developed Reiki. The definition of Reiki can be read as "Universal Life Energy". This is the most common definition used in the Western World today. The Kanji can also be read to mean the Universal life energy/spirit coming together with us. In this meaning it represents our oneness with all. This is Reiki. In Reiki level III, we learn the Dai Ko Myo symbol. We are one with the great shining light, the universal life energy merged with our own. This does not come about by attunement, nor by a certificate paper, but through realization. There is nothing to attain, there is no goal to reach. The DKM is said to represent the Amida Sanzon, a triune of love, light and harmony. These three together represented the ultimate source in the same way that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost do. The DKM is the "Great Shining light". This is the source. Once you know the Dai Ko Myo, you can use it for any Reiki use, even in place of the other symbols. This is both because as a triune symbol it contains the others, and because it is the first step in moving from symbol reliance to just using the energy. Use it everywhere and anytime you might want to use the others. Use the name of it as a mantra to meditate concentrating on the Ultimate source of all, the great shining light and let it illumine you. Perhaps then you will realize that you are it. The Dai Ko Myo is a return to simplicity. The three other symbols together in one. Level one was the simplicity of Reiki, trusting in the source, and simply doing it. Level II is learning the ways the source manifests and expands our conception of what the source can do. Level III, with the Dai Ko Myo brings us back to the simplicity and the oneness. Reiki is in the doing and Being. The realization is that there is no past and no future. With open hands, open minds and open hearts, our total focus and attention on the now. In this awareness, loving kindness and compassion *is* the expression of our awareness. We heal. The realization is that we are the great shining light, NOW, in this moment, in every breath, radiating to all. Healing is. Some might think this a bit esoteric, or philosophical, or mystical. It is actually very simple, but it cannot be reasoned to, it cannot be sought after, it cannot be found. It simply is. Reiki is. In awareness there is only now. It is simple, be Reiki. On every breath, in awareness, now. You have all felt it. In attunements, in that moment, you know it, you are it. Be it. On every breath. Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 43 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Living Reiki, Being Reiki It is almost a universal experience that we feel Reiki as spiritual. Many have come to Reiki as part of their "spirituality". Some believe it will give them enlightenment. Many of us define ourselves as "seekers". We "seek", we chase this elusive whirlwind thinking that some "thing", some teaching, some messiah, some teacher is going to give us that missing piece that will finally grant us, or let us "attain" enlightenment. Many of us seekers are experience junkies, we seek experiences, we seek one spiritual "high" after another. We talk of our "path", we seek enlightenment. This is a trap, for all these searches take us away from ourselves, or put the responsibility for the realization of our true selves in the hands of others, or outside of ourselves. In seeking outside yourself you can never find. Enlightenment is where you are, where else could it be? You search for what you already are. Your focus determines your reality. Where your awareness is, there you will be. Reiki level III is living Reiki, being Reiki. We are Reiki. If you see Reiki as separate, something outside of yourself, you are seeing illusion. If your awareness is Reiki, then you will *be* Reiki. Be intimate with this moment, be Reiki, simply be. You will not find this in concepts, memories, fantasies, images, searching, and projections. You will not find it in more symbols, more systems, trademarks, businesses, arguments over whose system is "better", "stronger", "heals faster", or is taught by the "best" teacher. If you are looking for Reiki as a business, spirit guides, more symbols, faster healing, secret symbols, hidden teachings, energy exchanges, crystals, arguments over who is "right" and whose way is "better", you will not find them here. These are conditioning, duality, things. Reiki is one of many, many ways of seeing the truth, and that is healing. This is Reiki. This is why it works. But don't expect Reiki to do the work of removing the conditionings that veil awakening. Attunements do not equal enlightenment. Keep in mind that Reiki is in the Doing and Being. If what you are doing is not in oneness with Reiki, but rather focusing your conditionings, attachments to outcome, desires and ego then might I suggest you refocus on simply being with Reiki and letting it be as it is. There are many paths people take. Do not take the path, be the path. You are Reiki. In this moment Realize it, and then express it. Whatever you do, do it as an expression of this. When you work, when you play, when you sit, and stand, you are awareness, you are Reiki, you are healing. In this your loving, peaceful and true nature will emerge. You heal. Do not do these for any goal, but simply for the sheer joy of it. Be Reiki because you love to be Reiki. Be Reiki as an expression of your being, your awareness. This is Reiki in my practice, in my being. It is living Reiki, being Reiki. It is unlikely that you will see what is written above taught anywhere else in level III Reiki. Others have different experiences, different practices. If you are a seeker, stop looking, be mindful and *be* where you are. In the search you look for what you think you know about and because of this you do not see what *is*, what is right in front of your nose, what you always were. Make everything you do an expression of Reiki, of compassion, of your awareness in every moment, moment to moment. Do this not because there is anything to gain, anything to seek, anything to know, but for the love of it, for the sheer joy of it, as an expression of the oneness, awareness, awakening in your being. Reiki on every breath.

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition (For those that are interested in this kind of being, I would suggest you visit lightmission.org There is material regarding meditation, mindfulness, Daily Readings sent via e-mail, private teachings, and a very kind and helpful discussion list.) About Attunements There are many attunement sets that exist. The Usui attunements have been modified by many people who have intentionally or through the limits of memory added symbols, taken away parts, added parts and all sorts of other things. The dirty little secret of Reiki is that any attunement will work. There are crown to crown variants, short forms, long forms, traditional forms, singular master attunements and many many others. All are Reiki and all work. All reawaken in us that which we have forgotten. I have seen some people into the bells and whistles attunement experience. They burn incense, have music, special lighting, candles, perform ceremonies to the goddess, catholic rituals, kaballah…… All of that is nice, and may provide the recipient with grand ceremony, but remember they are not necessary. My preference is SIMPLICITY. I do not play music. I do not burn incense. In my opinion, the more simple the better, anything else detracts from the experience of the attunement and the connection to the Reiki Energy. As in all things, you decide how you wish to do them. The only real important parts of the attunement are mindfulness and intent. Keeping mindfulness means staying focused on simply doing the attunement. It means keeping the intent clear, free of attachment to outcome, free of expectations, worry, need, separateness. It is just BEing Reiki, sharing it, and in that oneness the illusion of separateness is no more. It has been said that the attunement can be done by intent alone, if the intent is clear. A Reiki Attunement Method There are many attunement methods. Some changes have come about in people remembering the process differently. Other changes have come about as people changed or modified the ritual of the attunement to suit their or their student's needs. I personally have in my possession over a dozen "Usui" attunements, at least three "traditional" attunements (all different), Usui/Tibetan attunements, Tibetan/Usui attunements, Short forms, and others. What follows is an attunement set that I developed. This attunement is an amalgam of the various attunements that I know. This method seemed to develop naturally for me, and intuitively seemed to be easy to perform and simple to do. It uses a standard form for all three levels. This is offered here for your review. As in all things, use the attunement that resonates best with you. If you are interested in different attunements, or wish to learn other attunements, my e-book The Reiki Attunement Guide is available for download at MightyWords.com. Use the link below to the AngelReiki Bookstore at MightyWords.com. Understand that this e-book is merely a supplement to this manual. All the information you need to do Reiki is included in the free, "Reiki Plain and Simple" e-book you are presently reading. When learning to do attunements it is important to practice. There are a number of possibilities for this. One is to have a person to practice on. If you have a friend who has Reiki they would be a good candidate. You can do them to the level they are for practice. You can also do self attunements. You can use a proxy for these, such as a teddy bear, or you can simply perform them visualizing yourself receiving them. Take your time and learn the steps. Some find having the attunement process on notes before them Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 45 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition comforting when they do the attunement. Usui Reiki Attunement This is an attunement process that I developed. It is in the Usui Tradition. This attunement is used for all three levels with the modifications for the second and third level in parenthesis. This attunement is a synthesis of elements from many different attunement sets that I had done and evolved over a time from my practices. It is easy to do, flows well, and easy to learn and remember. The first level attunement is repeated 4 times with a minimum of an hour between attunements. Attunements may be repeated as often as the person likes. They are always pleasant to receive. Reiki Shares and other gatherings of practitioners are a good place for the beginning Reiki teacher to practice. Beginning Begin by saying the principles. "For today only, anger not, worry not. Be Grateful and Be Humble. Do your work with appreciation. Be kind to all. Place the hands in Gassho, bow and connect to the Reiki source. BE Reiki. You are the great shining light, BE it, resonate it. Be mindful and keep your intent on being and sharing Reiki with this person. Some find that drawing the Power Symbol on their palms, Crown and Heart Chakras, intending them to open to the Reiki Source and Light helps them connect to Reiki. Cleanse the room by drawing the four Usui Reiki symbols in the air in front of you. This not only can cleanse the room but also helps you focus, and sets the tone for the beginning as a sacred event. Part One On the back, draw the Cho Ku Rei from slightly above the top of the head and down the back of the student, ending at the base of the spine. Place both hands on top of the head to get an energetic rapport with the student. Breathe in visualize the Dai Ko Myo. Exhale the Breath into the Crown Chakra blowing the Dai Ko Myo in gold into the Crown Chakra, and move it through the middle of the student's head, and into the base of the brain. You can guide it with your hand. Above the head, draw the Usui Master Symbol and repeat "Dai Ko Myo" three times. Again visualize the symbol moving into the into the Crown Chakra, through the head and into the base of the brain, guiding it with your hand. Do the same with the Sei Hei Ki, the HonShaZeShoNen and the Cho Ku Rei. Signal the student to raise their hands held in prayer position to the top of their head. Draw the Power Symbol in the air over the hands. Then picture the Symbol moving into the hands, down into the Crown Chakra, through the head, and into in the base of the brain saying the name of the power symbol three times and guiding the Symbol with your hand. (Repeat this with the Sei Hei Ki and HonShaZeShoNen for level II, and with the Dai Ko Myo for level III.) Part Two Move to the front and place the students prayer held hands in front of the heart. Draw the Power Symbol in the air in front of the middle of forehead (brow or third eye chakra). Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 46 -

Reiki Level 3 - Reiki Healing in the Usui Tradition Then picture the Symbol moving into the brow chakra. Guide it in with the hand if you want. Say the name of the power symbol three times. (For Level II do the same with the Mental/Emotional Symbol and the Distant Symbol. For the Master Level, use all four symbols, remembering to repeat the name of each symbol three times). Draw the Power Symbol in the air in front of the heart chakra. Then picture the Symbol moving into the heart chakra. Say the name of the power symbol three times. (For Level II do the same with the Mental/Emotional Symbol and the Distant Symbol. For the Master Level, use all four symbols). Next open the student's hands like the cover of a book so they are next to each other palms up facing the ceiling. Place you left hand under their hands and with your right hand draw out the Power Symbol on the hands on the Palm. Say the name of the power symbol three times. Then place your hands on theirs and let the energy flow. (Only the Power symbol is placed in the hands in level I, the Distant symbol and mental /emotional symbol are placed in the hands in level II, and all four of the symbols are placed in the palms in the Master level.) Bring the student's hands together in prayer position, and move them back in front of the student's Heart. Blow over the hands, down to the Solar Plexus, then up to the Third Eye and Crown, and back over the hands. Part Three Move behind the student. Place your hands on the student's head. Use a positive affirmation and repeat it to yourself three times, Intend it to be accepted by the student. (Some examples might be: "You are a perfectly attuned", "you are a competent Reiki Healer", or "you are filled with Divine Love and Wisdom", or any other affirmation that is significant to you or the student. You can say them out loud if you prefer. Place your hands together with the index fingers touching and the thumbs together. Both your hands will be open, palms down, fingers pointing toward the front of the recipient. Let the Reiki flow and flow. Be Reiki. Do this for a minute or so, experiencing the moment with them. Move your hands to the student's neck, and then place the right hand on top of the head and the left at the base of the skull. Visualize a door and then draw the power symbol on it and see the door being closed. Say to yourself, "I seal this Attunement with Divine Love and Wisdom". Intend that the Process is sealed and complete and the student is now forever connected directly to the Reiki Source. You can say, "you forever connected to the Reiki source." You can say, "We have both been blessed by this attunement". Part Four Move back to the front of the student. Hold your palms toward them. Visualize a white mist surrounding you. Breath in and be filled with this white light mist of Reiki. Blow the mist at the student allowing the final energy of the attunement to bless the student. Say, "the attunement is complete". Some suggest that afterwards wash the hands to ensure that the energetic connection with the student is broken. Copyright - Alex Thorne, Ver. 1.1 2009 - 47 -

Section 5 Complaint and arbitration procedures The primary concern of a complaint and arbitration procedures is to protect the public. A regulator will encourage the resolution of differences between practitioners and potential complainants. This can be done through informal mediation before entering into a formal complaint procedure. Misunderstandings and the breakdown of communication are the major causes of complaints. There may be some areas where there is no absolute right or wrong, in which case the Code of Ethics and Practice will offer guidance and indicates areas where particular challenges may arise. When in doubt, practitioners are encouraged to seek advice from the regulator with whom they are registered, or the association to whom they belong, if not registered with a regulator. Members of the public should be aware, that to pursue a complaint against a practitioner who doesn’t belong to a professional association or who is not registered with a regulator, should take their grievance to their local trading standards.
