Alfonso Gonzalez

I’m a professor of Information Science at Autonomous University of Barcelona and member of GRP (Advertising Research Group). I’ve published different works on Soviet political poster and Spanish Republican poster. Since my first trip to Cuba in 2003 I began to study the Cuban political billboards. As a result of this interest, in 2009 I was curator of the exhibition "Vaya Valla! Gráfica revolucionaria cubana" ("Cuban revolutionary graphics"), opened in Barcelona and hosted by Casa América-Catalunya. The exhibition was first shown, out of Cuba, one hundred of billboards that summarized the major thematic clusters of Cuban political propaganda. "Cuba en vallas: la construcción del imaginario de la Revolución cubana" ("Cuba on billboards: the image construction of the Cuban revolution") is an unpublished book. Contains over 500 images of political billboards from the 60's to today. These images explain the moments, events and major players in the Cuba’s recent history
