i) j)

I met the Lay-leaders and Council chair weekly for evaluation and planning of the committees’ and ministry programs. I also managed to meet all boards and committees to be appraised of their work to enable me to plan accordingly. We restructured our church schools with the purpose of making them more effective through attracting more teaching personnel and equipping them; as well as providing adequate material resources and adding more time allocation. The teachers received eighteen (18) hours of training and they all invested an additional eight (8) hours of planning. The Sunday schools were launched on 7th June 2015 with twelve (12) classes. Ten of the classes are age based while two are membership based. Our giving financially is on the increase while our Harvest Thanksgiving for this year is now exceeding $11 000.00. We look forward to pleasing results in the midst of economic difficulties. We were blessed with the arrival of two student pastors Barnabas Gwatura (February) and Mary Muyotcha (March) after we bade farewell to Pastor Memory Muzanechita. The two pastors have brought complimentary gifts and skills to our congregation. Members of the Children Ministries responded positively to the pastor’s challenge for them to bring others to Christ and to church. Their efforts contributed to the new members/souls that we are celebrating today. They received certificates and prizes from the Pastor. Our Mission trip to Chiendamabuya involving 64 members on May 15 2015 shall remain memorable to us as well as to the members of our sister church. We receive more blessings as a congregation when we touch the lives of other people. We continue to uphold Family Ministries as we value the importance of the family unity and values. Marriage enrichment programs were put in place and this resulted in the increase of participation in church activities by married couples. I conducted a send-off worship service for all pupils and students going back to school for the second term. They all partook in Holy Communion. We carried a comprehensive audit for our membership and statistics, this was a beneficial exercise as we discovered 77 members unaccounted for. Some of the people on our register left more than 3 years ago.

18 Cranborne United Methodist Church Charge Conference Report – 13 June, 2015.

11. GENERAL OVERVIEW OF BOARDS & COMMITTEES 11.1. BOARD OF TRUSTEES Our trustees worked hard and harmoniously to fulfill their mandate. They acquired residential property for the church as well as spearheading the construction of the janitor’s spacious three-bedroomed house. We are pleased that they have put operational tools in place to manage our property. We applaud the Asset policy that they will present for adoption.

11.2. FINANCE & PROJECTS This hard-working team confidently manages our financial resources in a transparent manner. They keep the congregation and the church council well informed of the financial transactions. Their exercise of showing members their tithing cards and the issuing of cards to those without in an endeavor to promote transparency and accountability is highly commendable. They managed to service our bond timeously, and support the ministry needs of the church with the available resources. We appreciate their efforts to raise funds through projects.

11.3. STAFF PARISH RELATIONS A dedicated team who are up to their task. We have witnessed their tireless efforts in the promotion of excellency in my ministry and the provision of care for the welfare of Pastor and staff. They made our transition to a new congregation easy, and we now have settled comfortably due to their warmth and hospitality. We appreciate their care for the Student Pastors and for Rev Dr K. Nkomo’ family. 11.4. CONNECTIONAL MINISTRIES This wonderful team has managed to keep the congregation focused on the main business of the church-that of making disciples and the doing of ministry.

19 Cranborne United Methodist Church Charge Conference Report – 13 June, 2015.

The Nurturing Ministries helped us to foster programs that promoted the growth of people’s faith and love for God. The church choir and those of our organizations raised the flag of Cranborne Church highly through their excellent performances in music festivals at district and conference levels. The highlight of the Outreach Ministries shall remain the mission trip to our sister circuit, Chiendambuya in Makoni- Buhera district. They provided building materials to help in the completion of their parsonage construction. Materials in the form of clothing, and gift boxes from children and cash ($600.00) for Pastor’s allowances and scholarship money for children’s education was provided. We are proud that through the Witnessing ministries, many souls (30) were brought to Christ. These new members were welcomed warmly during the ceremony hosted for them. The societies played a very important role in the life of our church this reporting year. They all participated successfully and excelled in music festivals, sporting activities, and in district activities. Their regular gatherings and activities are going on well. Though, there is room for improving the 13-14 years age group; we are enthused with the performances of our societies.

12. APRRECIATION a) I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to those who have supported my ministry in one way or the other. b) My spouse, Dr. Mazvita Machinga, and children have been pillars of support in the success of my work. c) I received invaluable support and assistance from the Lay-leaders Mr Joseph Mushambi and Mrs. Janet Chiripasi. d) I sincerely thank the SPPRC, all leaders and members of the church for their unwavering support and love. You made me to settle comfortably in my new assignment. e) The office secretary, Sarah Mandisodza, and the janitor, Mr. Nzwanai Zinyakasa, have been supportive and I heartly appreciate. f) The District Superintendent, Rev J. Bonga have continued to guide and encourage me in my work. I thank you sincerely.

STATE OF THE CHURCH

We are pleased to report that the Circuit is in a good state, spiritually, morally, socially, financially and numerically. The achievements highlighted herein are good indicators that the circuit is heading in a good direction. Our membership is growing and our financial remittances to ZEAC and HED are up-to-date, consistent and commendable. The Cranborne charge recently acquired a nice four bedroomed second parsonage -an achievement we are proud to be identified with. The key priority for the circuit in terms of capital projects shifts back to the completion of the chair project in the main sanctuary. Our B.O.T. will be working tirelessly to ensure the completion of this project in this current year. Our harvest proceeds for this year will be channeled and utilized for this purpose. a)

Developing Principled Christian Leaders The diligent execution of expected duties by respective boards is a showcase of good results of lay trainings, academies, workshops and retreats organized either at circuit or district level. Our people continue to show a desire to learn. The circuit is in the process of reinvigorating our Sunday school programmes so that the learning process continues within the circuit. We have just finished conducting a well detailed training programme for Sunday School Teachers.

b) Poverty Alleviation The circuit is working hard to promote this focus area. We have conducted some training on programmes such as entrepreneurship in an effort to empower our people to be self-sustained. Our thrust as a circuit is to give the people the fish rod rather than giving them the fish. c)

Global Health The circuit is participating well in some programmes to promote global health. Teachings on health matters were delivered in our church services and our health week was observed. We participated well in the health promotion Sunday.

26 Cranborne United Methodist Church Charge Conference Report – 13 June, 2015.

Our services are very lively with vibrant praise helping to enhance the quality of worship. We continue to have some membership drive programmes in an effort to promote congregational development.

1.

QUADRENNIAL THEME “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matt 28:19-20) (KJV 2000).

2.

SALUTATION The District Superintendent Reverend Bonga and Mrs. Bonga, Pastor in Charge Rev. Dr.Machinga and Dr. M. Machinga, District Layleaders Mr. Nehemiah Saburi and Mrs. Chipo. Misi, District officials and all members of Cranborne circuit here present. We greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are pleased to report to this Conference the milestone achievements we have so far enjoyed through Christ who gives us strength.

3.

VISION We foresee a vibrant Godl fearing congregation, continuously growing and claiming higher ground spiritually, numerically and morally as we continue to commit our resources and energy to the making of disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

4.

MISSION STATEMENT The Cranborne circuit of the United Methodist church is committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ through outreaching, witnessing, nurturing and networking for the transformation of the World.

5.

STATE OF THE CHURCH Although the circuit is currently under financial strain, it is generally managing to meet its recurrent monthly running financial obligations. We have been consistently remitting our obligations to the HED and Conference. However, we have some outstanding commitments to HED and other service providers as tabulated below, some of which we are servicing only whenever we have excess resources after meeting recurrent and critical expenses:

38 Cranborne United Methodist Church Charge Conference Report – 13 June, 2015.

Nature Of Debt Mortgage Loan Water and Rates Contractor (2nd parsonage 24 Glencoe Queensdale TOTALS

Amount Owing $28 943.00 $3 900.00 $1 350.00 $34 193.00

As a church we have managed to fund a number of projects out of resources generated from the church membership e.g. to fund the purchase of the second parsonage and near completion of the janitor’s residence. The number of tithers and church supporters has changed from 347 reported previously to 465 as of now. However, the current economic environment is also showing through inconsistent tithing by some church members thereby leading to our failure to meet certain targets on some income lines.

6.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE Apart from the above commitments that need to be settled, we also need to plan for the following future possible projects:a) b) c) d)

7.

Re-upholstery of old sanctuary chairs Purchase of Sanctuary chairs to fill remaining gaps Church grounds landscaping/paving and drainage 2nd Circuit car

ACHIEVEMENTS a) We came up with the 2015 circuit budget and it was discussed and adopted by Council. See appendix. b) Managed to send our books for auditing twice in the period under review and we received positive reports on both occasions, with recommendations to help close potential loop holes. c) We have ensured that all organizations in the circuit have submitted their financial reports to audit for the period July-December 2014. d) We have presented two financial reports to the church during the period January – April 2015. e) We are up-to-date with staff salaries and Pastors’ allowances and these were always paid in time

39 Cranborne United Methodist Church Charge Conference Report – 13 June, 2015.

f) We provided funding for 70% of the purchase price of a second parsonage plus transfer fees and bond registration fees. g) We secured 30% of purchase price of second parsonage through a mortgage loan from Home-link and we are honouring our monthly mortgage commitments. h) We are currently carrying out some fundraising activities with Projects Committee since March 2015 to support various church activities. i) We carried out an exercise to ensure every member has either a tithing card or a church support card and allowed existing tithers an opportunity to view their cards. 7.1.

PROJECTS a) Worked hand in hand with RRW on the classic tea program on 14 December 2014 where $5 061.46 was raised. b) Embarked a tiling project for the second parsonage where $3000.00 was raised through donations. c) We are doing food sales every Sunday since 2nd week of March 2015 and we have raised $450.00 profit to date. d) Have started ZUMBA class lessons at our church on Saturday mornings. To date we have had 2 sessions and have raised $85.00 profit..

Comments Showing people their tithing cards and teachings may assisting in increasing the number of tithers Issuing of cards to those who do not have will widen income base. Monthly feedbacks on church finances will foster transparency and confidence. More people may want to contribute through church support after teachings Committees are being encouraged to cut down on non critical expenditure Encourage the Stewardship Committee to do an early harvest thanksgiving launch. We have budgeted for a very optimistic growth of 17% growth in income over 2014 driven by actions 1 to 4 above Connectional Ministries will share their budget with all committees that fall under them.
