04. LANDSCAPE UNIT Landscape unit The Canal_Havana Bay, Havana, Cuba/ Renovation. The Bay of Havana has a rich cultural heritage associated to the development of an industrial-commercial port with architectural pieces, infrastructures and ensembles that define its identity, character, and singularity; Toward BAY OF HAVANA (HISTORIC PHOTO)
which a limited approach to the declaration as a heritage is manifested. Currently, it hides more than half of its territory, mainly due to the lack of road connections, the existence of abandoned industrial and port areas and the absence of public spaces at the water's edge or line of contact. The purpose of this plan was to create mechanisms and actions to protect spaces with significant values for the Landscape, in order to preserve it for future generations and put them in value as a landscape resource. In addition, it proposed to create a system of public spaces, and green areas, that should structure the future urban growth of the bay.

The urban plan had as central idea to create actions for the public cultural use and recreational use and it is intended to be compatible and respectful with the heritage, so that in the areas of protection of the bay, any initiative for the recreational-cultural use, must respect the conditions derived from Port Industrial Legacy. The goal was to create a network of connected landscapes that protect and articulate the most valuable spaces of The Bay of Havana and the waterfronts. It means that the components of excellence in Havana Bay turn into the key projects that are capable of powering the transformation of the city and its own. THE URBAN COMPONENT
