01 MUSEUM- DESIGN FROM SPINNING STRUCTURE Year: 2015 Fall Location: Bulgaria This is a museum project that generate from spinning or folding structure. The first floor is a open space that covers the ruins in Bulgaria. The second and the third floor are the gallary and cafe. All the form of horizontal element and vertical elements comes from the use of spin. The main comcept is combine all elements of building including glass facade, floor, roof, wall, rail and stairs by the rule of spinning structure.

02 RE-CONNECTED TO THE SKY-DESIGN FROM NATURE Study period: Spring 2017 Second year at University of Toronto Project type: Public building(Group project) Location: Toronto

CONCEPT: The scheme offsets the activity of movement with a commitment to creating spaces that allow the individual visitor to discover moments that engage with more primitive humanistic experiences that are aimed to disconnect with the artificially constructed world but reconnect with the forest, the stars, and the sky.

SECTION A-A

The design of the sky lounge stitches the existing natural and artificial elements together. The two existing staircases connecting the upper and lower walkways strengthen the vertical layer of program just as the rocky slope is left exposed both on the interior and exterior of the lounge to reinforce the natural state of the landmass. The major north facade is composed of the traditional brick wall, with a pattern inspired by Italian vernacular architecture, and translucent glass to provide the direct visual connection for visitor inside to heritage building on the north. The Skylounge is mufti programmed, including roof top for sightseeing, the main indoor floor for reception and library, and lower level for recreation like Cafe. The interface between sky lounge and lower walkway is designed to be an exhibition corridor, where the brick walls are telling site stories to visitors passing by.

CONNECTED TO SKY LOUNGE

New walkways have two levels. They are mostly paralleled with the existing southern side(upper) walkway in plan, but have different spatial relationships in section. The upper level of new walkways is focusing walking experience, as well as connecting to existing walkway and sky lounge. The lower one is providing access to observatory houses. Psychologically, since it is cantilevered away from the cliff, it means to create a perception of "walking into sky" .

In terms of Observatory houses, the unit form is to optimize the views both to the sky and to the surrounding landscape. The houses from the west to the east are spinning in a certain way when they are going up to the highest spot in order to give a tension of movement. The form of the houses starts from a transparent cube. By cutting off a corner of its top, it maximizes the view to the starry sky. Part of it that faces the existing building is wrapped by brick wall inspired by existing vernacular building, same with sky lounge, while the transparent inside represents a place where people could connect their deep inside to the eternal sky and a way in which people could find their inner peace.

03 LIFE CIRCLE COMPETITION Study period: WINTER 2016 Project type: Competition(Group Project) Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada A circle can be the regeneration of birth and death and the seasons change during a year, with its landscape changing but never goes to an end. Life’s vitality gives people a recovering path that makes the circle bigger and stronger. Our concept comes from this circle. This project seeks to create a beautiful, peaceful and vitalizing place for relaxation, reflection and pray. This is a group project done by Yazhuo Wang, Gefei Pan, Shan Yang and Xiaoting Yuan. I did the bird eye perspective, generation diagram and joint detail.

04 TORONTO STORY MUSEUM-DESIGN FROM CITY GRID Study period: Spring 2017 Second year at University of Toronto Project type: Public building(individual project) Location: Toronto Professor: Vivian Lee

CONCEPT: As a museum located in the center of Toronto, the museum aim to create a public celebration spot for visitor and local citizens. The concept of this project is to use a peeling up landform building to frame out paths to the identified attractions. The main entrance plaza is conceived as intersection of surrounding paths and places. The center path is a shortcut from wellington street to rail deck park. The sunken plaza of the museum is the extension of Niagara Street.

Site Strategy to fit into the city grid

Museum Junction The site circulation consists of a center path which is a short cut from wellington to rail deck park entry and a grand stair to sunken plaza which is extended from Niagara street. The three path intersect at the sunken plaza that is intended for public event. It is also the place where the main entrance of the museum is located. This siting strategy allow people to permeate through the site without getting into the museum.

05 PARAMETRIC SCREEN-DESIGN FROM SHAPE SERIALITY Study period: Spring 2014 Second semester of Junior year at University of Utah Project type: Public building Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Professor: Krysta Mae Dymick The concept of this project is to use a series of shading panels to cope with sunlight , especially the western exposure by providing shading with various pattern and make the coffee time more enjoyable. The panels can be adjusted with a control horn according to the sun angle in different seasons in a year and different time in a day.

STRUCTURE ANALYSIS

EGONOMICS ANALYSIS 1.Changeable shading panel This is the shading fan that can be adjusted to three different angles that provide three different shadows according to the various weather conditions.

2.Unchangeable shading panel This part of shading panel can not be changed and work as the main shading part together with the changeable shading panels.

3.Structure of shading panels These two layers of structure work together to hold up the shading panels.

MOVABLE PANEL SHADING ANALISYS

The panel is 30° to the polygon structure, which is suitable for using in the hot period. About 80% of the ground area is shaded.

The panel is 60° to the polygon structure, which is suitable for using in the comfortable period.About 50% of the ground area is shaded.

The panel is 90° to the polygon structure, which is suitable for using in the cold period.About 30% of the ground area is shaded.

Parametric Stage Design---Julius Caesar Concept: Our idea comes from the story of Act II Scene II of opera Julius Caesar. It is about a conversation among Caesar, his wife Calpurnia and his republican sympathizers Brutus. Calpurnia was trying to stop Caesar from going to the senate house because it was dangerous outside and initially Caesar agreed. But later he was convinced by Brutus to go out again. This scene is mainly about Caesar’s mind changing and how his mind was influenced by the other two opposite minds. Our intention here is to find a form for these minds.

The form has totally different characteristics on the two ends, one of which is simple and smooth and the other is chaotic and complicated. Also the right side with worm-toned light has a cave-shaped space that is delivering a feeling of interior and safety, and the left side with cool-toned light is more like an exterior and exposed space. These two ends, which represent the two opposite minds, are connected by a transitional part in the middle that mixes their characteristics together. This part, therefore, represents Caesar’s mind that goes through a changing phase and tends to the outside. Algorithm:The Images are two results run from madel ball with different level of precision in calulation. By reducing the precision, The surface get less detail and become smooth.
