Outlining The Characteristics, Causes Of Oppositional Defiant Disorder Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is emotional disorder in children due to which they exhibit a variety of negative and infuriating behaviors that exceeds the normalcy of an average child. The disorder may extend for a period of six months and can cause significant hardship and emotional trauma both for the parents and the child. The main characteristics of ODD include short temper, impatience, refusal to obey instructions, blatant lying, getting easily annoyed, displaying aversion or disturbance in public, etc. Further, the child might also try to be resistive and hostile to parents, peers, teachers and all without any provocation.

A child who suffers from ODD will have significant difficulties in comprehending and understanding new theorems and concepts that are taught to him as part of his education at school. Although there is no definite age when the disorder can be diagnosed; it is largely seen in children from the age of two and older and continues to pubescent years. Hence, the constant resistance, denial and disregard to parents and elders can turn the child into a grumpy and unsatisfied individual.
