Theatre & Drama School, Catania. - 2019 Part 2 Thesis Project Exploring the role of theatre as social infrastructure to bring life back into the a dilapidated city, bridging communities through subconscious participation in the performing arts. Key conceptual idea : ground plane of building as continuation of the streets, drawing people into an internal landscape of informal performance spaces. At the heart of the building sits 2 anchors : a theatre yard and an in-the-round auditorium.

Catania is a city confronting a complex range of issues. The evident signs of decay and dereliction within the historic centre are both symptoms and consequences stemming from these issues. This project sought to address these issues across a range of scales. Following the research and analysis of Catania, the project identified the ring road as the key area for intervention. This route is reimagined as a civic promenade for the city that reconnects the life of the centre to its periphery, reactivating currently decaying and derelict sites. The sites of intervention along this route varied significantly in scale, which meant that the design had to respond across multiple scales simultaneously, while knitting the city centre into a cohesive whole. The scheme proposed focuses on 3 scales of public realm intervention : landscape, urban and surgical.

Rethinking Industrial Wasteland, Bristol. - 2018 Part 2 Studio Project Exploring a method to approach dilapidated industrial site with varying edge conditions, while working with current proposed masterplan. The core intention is to create a dramatic change in character of the place to attract footfall, with a minimal and elegant solution. The proposed building, a botanical craft centre sits at the edge of the site as part of a ‘picture frame’ represented by a border of hard pavement offset from surrounding built edges. Within the frame contained a landscape formed without intentional gesture, through desired lines, to create a contrast of control and chaos.

Urban Factory, Dorchester. - 2017 Part 1 Thesis Project An inquiry into the typology of a modern day factory. The proposed factory looks to the past Victorian model in Birmingham and Manchester, and argues for the revival of an urban factory that bridges the gap between consumption and production. Additionally, the scheme, through careful creation of work spaces, hopes to revive the culture of making and interest in manufacturing.
