Conflict at its very essence is a challenging of an idea. It forces society to reevaluate the values it upholds by which it is governed. I embrace the opportunities for discourse born from this kind of tension. Confronting social issues serves a catalyst for my work conceptually and formally.

Towerscape allows for speculation of a new type of space, lifestyle and context. The complex speculates on the potential for a hyper-capitalistic community. Living space and commerce space become interchangeable and boundaries are blurred between the private and public domain.

Castell Ciutat is a gathering space for those who participate in the Spanish tradition of building human towers. This event often draws large crowds throughout Barcelona’s Old City where the building is located. Castell Ciutat is intended to be a place to learn about the sport and engage the spirited tradition.

The conception of Stalagmite was inspired by what is above and “grows” like the rock formation that ascends from the ground in a cave environment. The angled lines of the display responds to the triangulated geometry of the dynamic ceiling in Steinberg Gallery. The display itself is an extruded triangle, with a pair of faceted surfaces on each side of the prism.

The term freedom village refers to a network of African American settlements in the early 18th century. The FVRI will serve as a place for people to engage and explore a history that is forgotten or been actively erased. FVRI is meant to be a place that activates collective memory as well as inspire scholarly endeavors that relate to the narrative of the project. Then the act of remembrance becomes productive. The building program will reflect the four distinct users with the intent to overlay interactions. Activities such as completing an academic residency, to studying the art of oral traditions, to cultural performances open to the public will allow for dialogue to occur at multiple specificities.
