The proposal is located in the heart of Bendigo city and aims to provide temporary transitional housing for women. It comprises of 25 apartments and 10 townhouses distributed across 3 buildings.

I was part of the team acting as the Project Architect to coordinate with consultants and produce documentation drawings for cost estimation.

With close proximity to the Melbourne CBD, including Flagstaff Garden and Queen Victoria Market, the proposal seeks to act as a catalyst that creates a community that connects between these nodes.

The proposal comprises of 280 apartments distributed across 3 buildings ranging from 5-10 storeys. In order to create a sense of ownership and identity, and breakdown the scale of the development, each of the buildings have a different architectural language that responds to the character of the street in which it faces.

Communal amenities are distributed across the site including a rooftop terrace, central landscape courtyard, gym and coworking spaces.

One of the key challenges throughout this project was the constant change of brief which multiple iterations to the layouts within a short timeframe.

The site is located 7km away from the Melbourne CBD, in the suburb of Seddon that is known for it’s cultural diversity, arts and music and is undergoin gentrification.

The proposal consists of 150 apartments and 10 townhouses. The ground plane is activated through resident amenities, a central courtyard, retail and gym.

Despite the challenge of meeting the client’s brief, the proposal seeks to respond to its context by breaking up the scale of the building, the use of rhobust materials and the actcivation of ground plane.

One of the key challenges of this project is to incorporate a cost effective and efficient structural layout that works with the car stackers in the basement and apartment layouts above.
