By Mark Gatchell, Lifestyle Director This make-ahead classic baked bread-and-egg casserole with bites of pepperoni, mushrooms and gooey cheese will be a huge hit with your holiday guests. INGREDIENTS • Butter, for greasing • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil • 1/2 cup finely diced pepperoni (2 ounces) • 1/2 pound shiitake mushrooms, stems discarded and caps cut into 3/4-inch pieces • 1 medium onion, minced • 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1/2-inch pieces • 2 teaspoons kosher salt, plus more for seasoning • 8 large eggs • 3 cups whole milk • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard • 1 tablespoon soy sauce • 1/2 teaspoon pepper • 3/4 pound day-old challah, sliced 1 inch thick and cut into 1-inch dice (10 cups) • 6 ounces Black Forest ham, finely diced (1 1/4 cups) • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (1/4 pound ) • 1 cup shredded aged white cheddar cheese (1/4 pound )
• 1/2 cup finely chopped scallions, plus thinly sliced scallions for garnish • Hot sauce, for serving DIRECTIONS 1. Butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil. Add the pepperoni and cook over moderate heat until the fat is rendered, about 3 minutes. Add the shiitake and cook until lightly browned and tender, about 5 minutes. Add the onion, bell pepper and a generous pinch of salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and browned, about 7 minutes; let cool completely. 2. In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the milk, mustard, soy sauce, pepper and 2 teaspoons of salt. Add the cooled vegetable mixture, challah, ham, both cheeses and the chopped scallions and mix well. Scrape the mixture into the prepared baking dish, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. 3. Preheat the oven to 350°. Uncover the casserole and bake for about 50 minutes, until it’s just set and the top is browned. Let stand for 10 minutes, then top with thinly sliced scallions and serve with hot sauce. TL DANI'S DIGEST By Dani Wall, Administrative Assistant Shopping Online This Year? This is my favorite time of year. The weather is perfect, stores have some great discounts, and everyone is generally in a jolly mood. I’ll be loading up on Christmas movies and settling into my Santa slippers this December, and I hope you enjoy this wonderful season as well. Here are a few reminders to help make your Holiday Season here at Toscana stress free! Deliveries- The Holiday sales are sometimes too good to pass up on. We know a lot of you will be taking advantage of these enticing deals to freshen up the look in your homes. There are a few policies and procedures the Board has put in place to ensure the buildings do not receive any damage when large items are being moved in or out. Any items professionally delivered in a moving truck, or that require a hand truck to be delivered, require a moving pass to be filled out and returned one business day before the truck will be permitted onsite. To receive a moving pass you can visit the website, or contact Dwall@toscanaliving.net . A $250 refundable deposit and a $25 fee is required when the moving pass is turned in. It is imperative moving passes are turned in for staff to pad elevators, alert the gate attendant, and make sure the front door to your building is unlocked. The last thing anyone wants to deal with on the day of a move or a big delivery, is rushing to get approval to ensure your moving truck is permitted onsite. Feel free to reach out to me, Dani, if you have any questions about moving policies or deliveries you are expecting. Business CenterPalazzo Centro’s Business Center’s new computers are up and running! All 6 computers are available for your convenience; in the Business Center you can print, shred, copy, and scan.
1. To help the association save on o f f i c e supplies, please keep in mind there is a limit of 10 pages to print for each resident per visit. 2. Please take personal phone calls to the Media Room if possible, taking personal calls in the Business Center may distract other residents from their tasks. 3. No food or drink is allowed in the business center to prevent accidental damage through spills. 4. Please stop by your condo to drop off pets before coming in Palazzo Centro- pets are not allowed in the amenity areas unless they are service animals. P a c k a g e r eminderAmazon and other websites have some stellar deals during this time of year. Some good tips and tricks to ensure your packages arrive to their perfect
destination: 1. Make sure your name and address are correct before ordering. Please do not put your building number in the address. 2. Check the weight of your package before it is ordered, if it exceeds 25lbs the office will not be able to sign for it unless special arrangements are made. 3. If you are receiving an over-sized package (larger than 16-cubic feet), arrange for it to be delivered on a day you will be home. The office will not accept over-sized packages exceeding 16-cubic feet.

TL CHRIS'S CORNER
By Chris Reeder, Assistant Manager Association Projects As we are finishing up 2019, it’s a great time to take a look in the rear view mirror to see all of the community projects completed over the past 11 months. We’ve been busy with plenty of projects residents can see, like the Pool Furniture re-strapping-, and some un-seen, such as the hot water boiler replacement on top of Building 24. Below are just seven project highlights from the Toscana team for 2019: Palazzo Grande Refresh – It was time for an update inside the Palazzo Grande amenity center. Although there were no structural changes, the building looks much different with new paint, lighting, kitchen furniture, and televisions. Additionally, the gym floor was replaced and an updated paint palate added. We are so pleased with the space and hope the residents enjoy the updates.
third-party create their reserve study; the reserve largely drives community s a v i n g s accounts and dictates when it is appropriate to complete projects. According to this years’ reserve budget, the pool furniture was due to be replaced. Rather than replace the furniture, the board opted to spend less money by giving the existing pool furniture new life. Each piece of furniture has been powder coated and restrapped. With the remaining budget, the chaise lounge chairs now have colorful pillows to give the pool area a “pop of color”.
WHY NOT
TONIGHT?
Landscape Replenishment - The Landscape Committee made some recommendations to add plant life in areas where we had lost foliage, as well as reduce where flora was becoming overgrown and unsightly. As the new plantings mature and fill out, Toscana will continue to look beautiful and will be responsible with our precious desert resource, water. The Landscape Committee will be working to provide recommendations for resident building entrances this coming year, so please come to a committee meeting to make your voice heard if you have strong feelings about the landscaping around entrance to your home. Pool Furniture Refresh - The Toscana Community has a

TL Building 10 Steam Room - Although this project was not one that was planned or in the reserve budget, there were serious deficiencies in both the men’s and women’s steam rooms in the Building 10 amenity center. It took much longer to complete this project than it could have…if the association would have paid out of pocket for the renovation. As responsible stewards of the association funds, the board and management company worked with the original installer and most of the work was completed under warranty- at no cost to the association. Parkade Cleaning - Prior to 2019, the underground parking parkades were never given a comprehensive cleaning. With head clearance concerns as well as space constraints, many power washing companies just didn’t want the liability exposure. With the new parkade vendor coming on board, the parkades are now on a cleaning rotation schedule. Each time they power wash, another layer of road dirt comes up. While the parkade will never be spotless, it is, after all a roadway and parking lot, each parkade is looking better. Each resident can do their part by removing their vehicles on the designated cleaning day- communicated by email from management.

Over the course of 2020, we expect to complete plenty of additional large projects. As the buildings and community ages, it is necessary to keep Toscana functioning beautifully. Some projects residents can expect to see during the next year include: Elevator Vestibule Refresh, as well as the previously mentioned Building Entryway landscape updates.
B10 Access Device Updates - Many residents not living in Building 10 didn’t realize the building was not on our access device system, DwellingLIVE. This project involved rewiring each exterior door, installing new readers, linking in the parkade roll up doors and pool gates. An interesting twist; Building 10 is the only combination Resident and Amenity center building on Toscana p r o p e r t y, presenting unique access challenges.
Thank you for supporting the board and management team as we strive to keep your home beautiful.
Business Center Computers - The resident business center located in Palazzo Centro has six resident computers, a paper shredder and printer. All six of the computers have been replaced and are ready for the new year. Many of our seasonal residents spend time in the business center, printing travel vouchers, connecting with friends out of state, or just browsing. Some residents come down to the business center to work from
Residents who will be utilizing a live Christmas tree this year can begin disposing them after the holiday on December 30. A bin from Republic Services will be places on the back of the property, in front of Building 15, where residents can bring live trees they would like to dispose of.
Holiday Decor Reminders As a reminder, winter holiday decorations are able to be placed for the holiday season, as long as they do not rest on the floor in your hallway, nor are permanently attached to your balcony railings. Per the CC&R’s, winter holiday decorations can be placed beginning the day after Thanksgiving (November 29, this year) and must be removed by January 7. All other holidays can have decorations placed 15 days prior to, and must be removed one day after, their holiday. Live Christmas Tree Disposal

This is the reason we like to send out the updates via e-Blast or newsletter. We also get asked about what goes in the minutes. It is best practice to only include items in the minutes that received a motion for the Board, whether it be approved, denied or tabled. However, should you have additional questions or concerns, we always appreciate hearing from our residents and encourage you all to email the team or come by and say “hi” anytime.

TL UPDATES FROM YOUR MAINTENANCE TEAM By John Raabe, Facilities Director Vandalism in Toscana I would like to discuss once again vandalism around Toscana, I know we are very fortunate around here that we do not have to deal with large scale vandalism such as spray painting or damage to large structures but we do have some issues with small scale vandalism that still costs the community time and money. Some of the recent examples are scuff marks on the baseboards in several areas around the buildings. It appears as if residents with carts are running into the wall, leaving large black marks all down the halls. We have also had several issues of footprints on walls, especially in the elevator vestibules, and also the buttons in the elevators being pushed too hard and broken. Down in the parkades we have had several of the parking curbs hit or run over, breaking them loose from their spots and breaking the curbs themselves. These curbs are extremely heavy and cause a huge eye-sore when they are

broken and covered in tire marks. A large issue we have always had to deal with here is littering and pet waste. In the parkades there has been large amounts of trash left in parking stalls or just lying around randomly and also some reports of residents walking their dogs and letting them urinate and leaving it. On the surface we have several instances of pet waste not being cleaned up. We have landscapers and a porter on site that are directed to keep an eye out for pet waste and dispose of it. However, the landscapers are on a rotation of the property and may not see a certain area for weeks and the porter has several other jobs which may prevent him from being able to complete a full cleanup. It very important that every pet owner is cleaning up their own pet waste. If someone is caught not cleaning up their pet’s waste they will be given a violation and fined $200. We do have residents keep an eye out and report residents they see not picking up after their pets. If you see someone vandalizing your community please let us know ASAP, so that we can resolve the issue. Help us keep your community looking and operating beautifully.
TL SPOTLIGHT ON AQUATIC EXERCISE
Aquatic Exercise: Healthy, easy on the body Retrieved from: Mayo Clinic Most of us know that regular exercise has a number of important health benefits, including weight management and improvement in cardiovascular health and sleep quality. However, many people struggle with common forms of exercise, such as walking, running and weight-training due to pain, mobility issues or fear of falling. Aquatic exercise is a fun way to focus on fitness in a gravity-reduced environment. The buoyancy of water is easier on the body and provides support for people with weakness, balance problems or pain. Additionally, the viscosity of water slows movement and provides resistance during exercise, making aquatic exercise a great workout. Here are five things you need to know before jumping into the pool: 1. Aquatic exercise is versatile. Exercise in an aquatic environment offers numerous options and techniques for almost all levels of physical ability. Exercise can be as basic as walking in the water to more high-level aerobic activities, such as deep-water running or swimming. Standing exercises often are performed in water that is waist to chest deep. These exercises can focus on improving range of motion/flexibility, balance and strength. Resistance training can be amped up by simply increasing the speed of movement or adding equipment, such as mitts, paddles, noodles or bands, to increase drag.
(82–88 degrees Fahrenheit) generally is best for higher-level intensity exercise or people who are prone to overheating, such as those who are pregnant, obese or have multiple sclerosis. Aquatic exercise in warmer temperatures (84–92 degrees Fahrenheit) is better for people with arthritis, fibromyalgia or pain, as well as those who are frail. 4. Be cognizant of your abilities. With the increased ease of exercise in water, people often can tolerate longer exercise sessions. As a result, these sessions can be more intense, with larger ranges of motion. You should be aware of the potential of overstressing your body. You may be more fatigued than you were expecting following an aquatic exercise session. 5. Consider group exercises to mix it up. Group aquatic exercise classes are a great way to socialize, build connections, find support, increase accountability and stay motivated to continue exercising. Classes often are led by instructors who have special training in exercising in an aquatic environment. The instructors are able to offer suggestions to adjust exercises for individual participants, if needed.
2. You don’t need to know how to swim. Having a basic knowledge of swimming or water safety is a good idea for anyone who is around water, but this form of aquatic exercise doesn’t necessarily involve swimming. The shallow end of any pool or lake will do, and you need only be able to stand in water for many of the movements. 3. Water temperature is important. Aquatic exercise in lower water temperatures
