YOUR NEIGHBORS' FAVORITES By Mark Gatchell, Lifestyle Director

If summer is good for one thing, it’s having food smothered in BBQ sauce! This pork tenderloin recipe doesn’t disappoint with a homemade BBQ sauce! Smoky chili powder, tangy Worcestershire and sweet peaches dress up your pork to perfection! INGREDIENTS • 4 ripe peaches, peeled and chopped • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped • 1/2 cup chopped onion • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce • 1 tablespoon chili powder • 1 tablespoon honey • 1 pork tenderloin (about 1 pound) INSTRUCTIONS 1. Combine all ingredients in a large sauce pan over medium heat. Once the mixture starts to bubble, turn the heat down to medium-low. Cook, uncovered, for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Use the spoon to break up the peaches into small chunks. 2. When cooking is complete, let the sauce cool down a bit. At this point, you can leave the sauce chunky and continue to the next step. Or, pour the sauce into a food processor or blender and puree until smooth. 3. Place the pork tenderloin in a 1 gallon plastic bag. Pour 2/3 cup of peach sauce into the bag. Toss the bag to coat the pork in the sauce. Place the pork in the refrigerator and marinate the pork for at least 4 hours. Overnight is ideal. Store remaining sauce in a container and place in the refrigerator.

4. When ready to cook, heat the grill to about 350 degrees. Place the pork on the grill and cook, covered, for about 20-30 minutes. Turn the pork every couple minutes so all sides are cooked evenly. When the pork is nearly done, spread about a 1/3 cup of sauce over the pork and continue cooking. 5. Remove the pork from the grill and let it rest for at about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Serve the pork with remaining sauce on the side. Recipe retrieved from chewoutloud.com

Spotlight On... CINEMA: MOVIE REVIEW By Gil Berkowitz Rocket Man Music Spectacle, Bittersweet Biography

The movie opens with Elton John (Taron Egerton) ridiculously dressed in a dazzling costume of flaming orange and sequins with wings, feathers, and horns. The outfit is over-the-top and big because John is an over-the-top persona. He strides into group therapy in a rehab center. He declares that he is an alcoholic, cocaine addict, sex addict and bulimic. This scene sets the tempo for the film. It is not a sanitized view of a man’s life, but rather a complex picture of a creative genius with all its warts and bumps. Don’t expect this to be family fare. John’s real name is Reggie Dwight. He is the product of a dysfunctional home where he was unloved by his parents, especially his father. His father abandoned the family when he was a young teenager. The film works in flashbacks from the time he first sits down at grandma’s (Gemma Jones) piano in 1990 and

Toscana Living | 10

from there is a whirlwind ride of fame, fortune, and desperate loneliness. The musical scenes are spectacular and beautifully choreographed. The performance at the Troubadour in Los Angeles is explosive with energy and verve. Taron Egerton’s forceful performance dominates the film and he will be praised for his vocal prowess as he sings all of the songs. It is very early in the year, but he should certainly be in the mix when it comes to Academy Award time. Unlike Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, Egerton sings every single song. Egerton is so dominating that the excellent performances of the supporting cast are overlooked. Bryce Dallas Howard as Sheila, his mother, lyricist-collaborator Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell), and manager John Reid (Richard Madden) are all great. The film is very good, appealing and harshly honest. It is playing in Harkins theaters throughout the valley and is rated R for sex, violence, drugs and language. It runs over two hours.

COMMUNITY HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Focus: Walking Article retrieved from https://www.health.harvard. edu/staying-healthy/5-surprising-benefits-ofwalking

The next time you have a check-up, don’t be surprised if your doctor hands you a prescription to walk. Yes, this simple activity that you’ve been doing since you were about a year old is now being touted as “the closest thing we have to a wonder drug,” in the words of Dr. Thomas Frieden, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Of course, you probably know that any physical activity, including walking, is a boon to your overall health. But walking in particular comes with a host of benefits. Here’s a list of five that may surprise you. 1. It counteracts the effects of weight-promoting genes. Harvard researchers looked at 32 obesitypromoting genes in over 12,000 people to determine how much these genes actually contribute to body weight. They then discovered that, among the study participants who walked briskly for about an hour a day, the effects of those genes were cut in half. 2. It helps tame a sweet tooth. A pair of studies from the University of Exeter found that a 15-minute walk can curb cravings for chocolate and even reduce the amount of chocolate you eat in stressful situations. And the latest research confirms that walking can reduce cravings and intake of a variety of sugary snacks. 3. It reduces the risk of developing breast cancer. Researchers already know that any kind of physical activity blunts the risk of breast cancer. But an American Cancer Society study that zeroed in on walking found that women who walked seven or more hours a week had a 14% lower risk of breast cancer than those who walked three hours or fewer per week. And walking provided this protection even for the women with breast cancer risk factors, such as being overweight or using supplemental hormones.

4. It eases joint pain. Several studies have found that walking reduces arthritis-related pain, and that walking five to six miles a week can even prevent arthritis from forming in the first place. Walking protects the joints — especially the knees and hips, which are most susceptible to osteoarthritis — by lubricating them and strengthening the muscles that support them. 5. It boosts immune function. Walking can help protect you during cold and flu season. A study of over 1,000 men and women found that those who walked at least 20 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, had 43% fewer sick days than those who exercised once a week or less. And if they did get sick, it was for a shorter duration, and their symptoms were milder. 2019 PARKADE CLEANING SCHEDULE: As a reminder, one parkade section is scheduled to be cleaned the first Tuesday of each month for the remainder of 2019. On these dates, residents are encouraged to move their cars out of the impacted parkades between the hours of 6am-6pm. Surface parking will be limited on parkade cleaning days, so please plan guest visits accordingly! The building schedules are as follows: BUILDINGS 14/26: Tuesday, June 4 Tuesday, September 3 BUILDINGS 15/24: Tuesday, July 2nd Tuesday, October 1st BUILDINGS 1, 10, 11: Tuesday, August 6th Tuesday, November 5th

In and Around Toscana DANI'S DIGEST

By Dani Wall, Administrative Assistant Orientations

If you are new here to Toscana, you are familiar with our “New Resident Orientations”. They are filled with tons of useful information about living in the community. If you have been living here for a while, some of the following information might be a good refresher. Moving passes-Any time you are moving large items in or out of your condo, a moving pass will need to be filled out and turned in. Part of this process includes placing a $250 refundable security deposit and $25 non-refundable administrative fee to account for potential damage and staff time for elevator padding and inspections. When we receive a moving pass several important tasks are scheduled to be completed by Toscana Staff. o The front door of your building is opened to allow movers through seamlessly with heavy items. o An notification on our team calendar goes out alerting the gate attendant and all staff members that your moving truck and/or delivery service is permitted on site through the front gate. o Night Managers are scheduled to install elevator padding when needed. o Maintenance performs a pre- and post-move inspection of the common areas (including lobby, elevators, and hallways) to check for damages. All of this has been put in place to ensure you have a smooth move, and Toscana stays beautiful. Please be sure you are filling out moving passes at least one full business day in advance. To have a moving pass or more information emailed to you about the moving process, please reach out to the office staff. Package Deliveries-Any package delivery service is allowed on site, as long as the driver leaves a form of identification with the gate attendant in exchange for a key fob. The delivery driver is then required to attempt delivery to the front door of your condo. If you are

Toscana Living | 12

not home, they are to bring your package to our office (Palazzo Centro), where we will hold onto it until you can retrieve it. Absolutely no packages are supposed to be left in the hallways. Here are some things to keep in mind when ordering packages: o DO ensure your email address is current in the DwellingLIVE system o DO ensure your first and last name, as well as correct unit number are all listed on the package. o DO NOT leave directions asking drivers to “leave the package at door if not home.” This is a violation of the package policy. o DO NOT put a building number in your address, they have a map to look up which building you’re in. o DO make sure you are home for perishable deliveries such as food subscription services. The Association will not accept these, as we have no place to properly store them. o DO make sure you are home for deliveries heavier than 25 pounds, or bigger than 16 cubic square feet. Large and overweight packages will be declined at delivery, as we do not have the space nor the ability to safely transport and store such items. Parking Passes and Guest List-We love for everyone to enjoy living here at Toscana. One of the benefits to living in such a beautiful community is inviting guests over. This is why we reserve overnight surface parking for guests only. o Enter your guests’ information into DwellingLive before they arrive on site to ensure they easily obtain a parking pass to parking overnight on the surface. If you would like to schedule a short Toscana Orientation recap or have any questions about the information above, please reach out to me by email at dwall@toscanaliving. net, via phone at 480-585-0808 or by stopping into the office during regular business hours. I am always happy to help!

For those of you braving Keep an eye on Association calendars and emails to stay the summer heat and monsoon chaos up-to-date on committee meeting dates and times! I hope I thought I would update you on some of the projects you will do your best to attend and learn more about the vast intricacies of the Toscana Budget. that you will see happening on property. The biggest and most exciting project that we have scheduled for this summer is the Palazzo Grande Clubhouse renovations. During this time the entire interior of the PG will be getting some new coats of paint, the tiles and carpets will get cleaned and the gym is getting a complete face-lift that will include a new color scheme, new floors and, if space allows, some new equipment. We don’t have our dates secured yet, but you will see that sometime in August the PG will be shut down for about three weeks for the work to be completed. We will be communicating the closure dates along with the planned schedule via our weekly e-blasts to the community. At the board meeting scheduled for July 25, the Board will be reviewing proposals to upgrade all of the computers in the Palazzo Centro business center. These are scheduled to be replaced per the reserve study and have definitely received their fair share of wear and tear over the last six years. The goal is to bring a faster machine, while ensuring that all of our residents personal information remains secure. This upgrade should only cause a mild disruption while the installer is on-site to change out the equipment. Another big project that is underway is the Association’s 2020 budget. Your Budget & Finance Committee will begin the daunting process of going through the budget to make decisions in regards to reserve funding, future projects, and current spending habits. All of their meetings are open to the residents and are held in the B10 Amenity Center. This is a great learning experience for all residents to see where all of your assessment dollars are

Should you have any questions regarding these projects, or input on some future project ideas, feel free to send me an email and I will be happy to assist you.

COMMUNITY DOs AND DON’Ts: Do be sure to park in your assigned space Do register your guests in DwellingLIVE Do say something if you see something that requires attention Don’t use extension leashes Don’t put vegetable clippings in your disposal Don’t hang towels on your balcony Don't throw trash or dirt over your balcony Don’t potty your pets on the turf Don’t use glass containers in the pool area And lastly, DO thank a neighbor for doing their part in keeping our community safe!
