CINEMA: MOVIE REVIEW By Gil Berkowitz John Wick 3-Parabellum Assassin Delivers with a Bang
international tote board. He is termed ex-communicado by the ruling council of the High Table.
Director Chad Stabelski’s third installment of the John Wick series is a carnival of violence, knife fights, and fist fights. It is absurdly over the top and deliciously entertaining. The definition of “parabellum“ is to prepare for war. “ John Wick 3” is not only prepared for war, it goes to war, guns blazing. The film is a tongue in cheek romp that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Yet it is a beautifully choreographed ballet of combat and humor.
John seeks help from an old Queenpin (Anjelica Houston) who operates out of an old stage theater. From there he takes a trip to Casablanca to enlist the aid from an embittered colleague Sofia (Halle Berry) who leads him to an Italian mob authority who in turn points him to the sands of the Sahara desert. There he meets another high ranking High Table member who has the ability to lift the kill contract on him. Meanwhile back in New York, a cold and efficient Adjudicator for the High Table (Asia Kate Dillon) puts pressure on both the Continental’s manager Winston (Ian McShane) and underworld leader the Bowery King (Lawrence Fishburne) for aiding John Wick. All this is great fun and non-stop excitement. This film is great summer fare. Also, get ready for the fourth installment which is now in production. The movie is playing at Harkins theaters throughout the valley. It is rated R for violence and language and runs for 2 hours and 11 minutes.
The film begins as we see John Wick (Keanu Reeves) being pursued by bounty hunters because he killed an adversary on the sacred premises of the Continental Hotel. A contract has been issued on him by an International Organization called the High Table. They have done so with a reward of $14 million. Every bounty hunter in the world is notified of the contract by way of an

Spotlight On... COMMUNITY HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Focus: Road Trips Article retrieved from https://www.mdanderson. org/publications/focused-on-health/focusedon-health-june-2018/your-healthy-road-trip-dayplanner.html Road trips can feel like long periods of sitting in the car, with lots of unhealthy snacks, fast food stops and sunburns along the way. But you can take steps to make your summer trip healthy. Driving with family through your state or across the country offers an affordable, funfilled way to escape for a day, weekend or longer. But it’s often on vacation that we let our health goals slip. That doesn’t have to be the case, says Mekhala Garvin, MD Anderson Cancer Prevention Center health educator. We talked to Garvin about how you can make your road trip a healthy one. Here’s what she had to say.
Schedule the day with sun safety in mind Driving to each location on your itinerary during the sun’s peak hours – between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. - will allow you to bike, climb, raft or kayak during the early morning and late afternoon, when the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays are less powerful. Exposure to UVA and UVB rays can cause skin cancer. Remember, even if you avoid the midday sun, you should always wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and reapply it often. And wear sunscreen even while you’re in the car.
TL
Stop for local produce. Eating seasonal fruits and vegetables year-round can help you maintain a healthy weight, which lowers your risk for cancer and other chronic diseases. Produce stands are a great place to restock your cooler with healthy treats. Go berry picking. It’s the perfect time to visit a nearby berry farm because these treats reach their peak in summer months. Brightly colored fruits like strawberries and blueberries are jam-packed with antioxidants that can help reduce your risk of cancer. You can eat them raw or make them part of your roadside picnic. If you can’t add in an extra stop, bring healthy snacks. “Try fresh fruits and vegetables or healthy nonperishable snacks like nuts or whole grain pretzels,” Garvin says. Stopping at a gas station or rest stop? Resist the temptation to load up on sodas or sports drinks and choose water. You’ll save yourself a lot of empty calories, and avoid a sugar crash later that can put the brakes on your fun. Stop to stretch and exercise You may be on the move, but long stretches in the car mean long periods of sitting and inactivity. So don’t rest at the next rest stop. Stretch and get active to make the most of the time out of the car.
Stop for exercise breaks Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week. You can get this amount of activity in 10-minute increments by taking a brisk walk during restroom or gas breaks. Or get the family moving by kicking around a soccer ball or throwing a Frisbee for a few minutes. “We recommend breaking up long periods of sitting with a little activity,” Garvin says. “Not only will this help you get some exercise, but it will also help you feel more energized and alert.”
And don’t forget to visit national parks or nearby woods on your road trip. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy nature and take long walks or hikes. Brisk nature walks or hikes are an amazing way to exercise. Plus, if you hike in a heavily wooded area, trees will help protect you from the sun. Another great benefit is the sense of relaxation and calm you get from nature walks. Reduced stress plays a big part in maintaining a healthy immune system, which can help the body better defend itself from diseases like cancer. “Hiking is a great way to see the sites while traveling and lower your cancer risk,” Garvin says.
You can eat healthy on the road Diet plays a huge role in reducing a person’s chances for cancer.
No matter where you’re going, summer vacation is not an excuse to take a vacation from making healthy choices. Remember, there are still a lot of ways to stay healthy.

In and Around Toscana DANI'S DIGEST
By Dani Wall, Administrative Assistant Dani’s 5 Ways To… Get Great Sleep
If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, you’re not alone. Many people struggle with sleep — and that’s a problem since sleep plays a crucial role in your health, energy levels and ability to function at your best. Most adults require seven to eight hours of sleep each night to feel well-rested and energized each day. If restless nights have become the norm for you, the first step toward getting better sleep is to observe your sleep patterns. Take note of how much you sleep each night, what factors contribute to your sleep or lack of it, how rested you feel the next morning and how much energy you have throughout the day. After observing your sleep patterns for one to two weeks, try these strategies to help improve your sleep: 1. Minimize light and sound. These two environmental factors can impact your quality and quantity of sleep. Darkness causes your brain to release melatonin for a calming, sleepy effect. As a result, it’s important to minimize your exposure to light before bedtime. Even the light from your computer, TV or other devices might make it more difficult for you to fall asleep. Ban these devices from your bedroom, and create a dark space by using blackout shades or an eye mask. Noise also can interfere with your ability to sleep. Try using a fan or a noise machine to block out unwanted noises. 2. Get comfortable. Adults spend about a third of their lives asleep, so it’s worthwhile to invest in bedding that comforts and relaxes you. Before climbing into bed, try lowering your thermostat a few degrees. Your core temperature drops during rest, and keeping your room on the chilly side will aid in this natural temperature drop.
Toscana Living | 12
3. Keep a routine. Just like kids, adults sleep better when they have a bedtime routine. Doing the same thing before bed each night can help prepare your body for rest and condition your brain for sleep. Stick to activities that promote relaxation, such as gentle stretching, writing in a journal, reading or meditation. 4. Manage stress. How you handle stress can play a significant role in your ability to fall and stay asleep. While stress isn’t all bad, when it turns into worry or anxiety, it can disrupt your sleep. If your busy mind is keeping you up at night, try practicing stress management techniques before you go to bed. Experiment with aromatherapy, deep breathing, keeping a gratitude journal or meditation. 5. Get out of bed. If you find yourself lying in bed stressing about your inability to sleep, get out of bed and do something that will promote relaxation. This might be reading an uninteresting book, practicing a relaxation technique or focusing on your breath. When you begin to feel drowsy, head back to bed. Make sleep a priority. Even if you’re already sleeping soundly, these tips can help. If you’re not still getting enough sleep, use these additional suggestions until you get the sleep you need to feel your best each day: • Keep a written log of your sleep schedule this week. • Turn off your electronic devices — including your phone and TV— an hour before bed each night. • Do some gentle stretches before bed to help you relax. Keep making adjustments until restless nights become a thing of the past. Article Retrieved from https://mayoclinichealthsystem. org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/5-ways-toget-better-sleep

We discussed items such as: enforcement of the pool rules, fair housing, service animals, vehicular traffic in the community, and some points of clarification about the new Montreux construction. It was great to be able to sit down and hear not only what our residents have concerns about, but gain some insight and recommendations on your ideas to rectify and address them. Even through all the talk of what we can be doing better for our residents, one topic kept coming up. That topic is: overall, Toscana is an amazing place to call home. That is such a wonderful thing to hear, as everyone here at Toscana strives to assist in creating a beautiful and relaxing home for our residents. This brings me to “how can we best address the most common rule violations, areas of concern and discussion topics here at Toscana?” I hear you all loud and clear! In response, we will be hosting an in depth Resident Workshop on June 27th. We have asked a member of our legal firm to be present to answer all of your burning questions in regards to Age Restrictions, Fair Housing, Service Animals, and Resident Conduct. The lawyer will have about a one hour presentation followed by an open forum to allow residents time to ask questions or get clarifications. I truly hope you all attend, as I feel like this is an issue that is very prevalent right now at Toscana, and we all could use the refresher on what is and is not allowed. Here are some tips and reminders to help prevent fires:
1. Pre-plan your escape route and locate hallway fire extinguishers. Although you may be very close to one stairwell, you’ll want to note your next closest access point, as well.
