On the beginning of this module I was aiming to do focus on my new interest-architecture. I have been fascinated with the atmosphere of places, and before I have started the essay, I had been thinking about how architecture influences the people. This module was a perfect opportunity to explore it. I have started my research with modernist architecture, because this was something that I liked the most. I have read books about different modern movements and tried to connect it with non-places but also uncanniness. I have also thought about some areas filled with blocks of flats and how do people live in therewhat are their feelings about it. All those questions were just ideas pilling up in my head, but after some research I have realized that finding actual people talking about their experiences with their houses would be very difficult. There are no much studies about it, or I haven’t looked deep enough to find it. That is why I have changed my idea. I have stayed close to architecture and people response to it, but I have narrowed it down to one, particular source. David Lynch movies. Lynch is one of my favourite directors, I know his movies quite well, and therefore I have noticed that he pays attention to the places he chooses in his films. Cinema of David Lynch is also filled with uncanniness and this is the mood that interests me the most. I have researched about David Lynch, uncanny and architecture so much that I have forgot the most important part- asking the question. After I have gathered more than 4000 words of quotes I got lost in what I would actually want to ask about. The other mistake was leaving this module almost to the last moment. I have done some bits and pieces during the year, but it definitely wasn’t enough to achieve a very good outcome. Especially because I don’t feel comfortable with academic writing, so I should have spent much more time on it. Last thing is visual journal. Filling the sketchbook has been a very interesting process. I have took some time to do that and also visually responded to the subject that matters to me. What is the most fascinating part, it’s the fact that I have got so interested in places that I have started to extend it into my private practice. As a ‘character designer’ this topic is something completely new for me, but also very relaxing. I get a chance to make images that create mood and that are free to interpret. Also, I feel like they can be a part of a narrative. Architecture subject is very refreshing for me. In terms of strictly visual- technical aspects, I am happy to explore line again. I have been practicing inking for some time now, but usually with similar tools- brush and calligraphy pen. This time I went further and

started to do some more marks and also connect it with line made through different media. The effects are interesting, and it reminds me, that I shouldn’t forget about something that used to be a huge part of my practice- a line.
