Module Brief Title: Product, Range & Distribution
STUDIO BRIEF 1: Project Proposal
ALICJA GOLEC Project Rationale What do you intend to do and why? I intend to produce a sequence of illustrations showing 12 zodiac signs. I am focusing on this project with an intention to explore various ways of character design, as well as finding out the suitable techniques and ways of my practice. I chose quite simple but interesting subject, because it will be easier for me to develop it in various ways and focus more on technical problem solving, which I really need right now. This project will be also beneficial for me in a way of finding my place in professional world. I would like to answer following questions: Where can I place my work? Where else can it be used except books? (Posters maybe)? Can I see myself working as an editorial illustrator?
THEMES / SUBJECTS What Themes/Subjects will form the content of your work for this module? This should include theoretical and non-creative based content and concerns. This section should identify your consideration of the social, cultural, ethical and creative concerns of contemporary Illustration practice. What do you intend to use the skills for? Consider extending the use of skills that you already have in order to deliver work of a higher standard as well as identifying new skills that you will need to develop.
I would like to explore methods I already know and master them. This include collage, ink, painting, drawing and printing. I know I can’t take so much on one go but I will try to explore the most of it. Composition- how can I make it interesting? How do I make it work and eye-satisfying? I want to explore Joanna Neborsky, Ren Hang and Polish poster school work to apply it in my further practice. How do I make my work interesting and eye-catching? – should I add some more colour? Base it on shape? Should I simplify them? How can I make my work iconic? KEY TEXTS List a selected number of books, articles and texts that are central to your proposed area of practice. These should include a combination of design and non-practice based books, theoretical texts as well as visual publications. You should include a list of relevant websites.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I resigned from fashion illustration project because I would recreate not create. I would like to make audience feel in certain way (uneasy, creeped out?), be remembered for a few more moments, not just create ‘nice and pretty’ drawings focused on clothes. Of course fashion adds whole lot to a character but I don’t want to focus just on this part. I am not saying that I will never do the fashion illustration in the future but this is not the moment where I want to focus on this part of illustration.
