ONE IN A MILLION STAR SHINING FOR AL RAJHIAT STUD

by Urszula Łęczycka z photos by Naïf Al Wasel, Ewa Imielska Hebda, Javan

The Arabian horse community got used to the spectacular purchases made worldwide from time to time. But the acquisition of most entitled and most expensive horses in the world plus one of the most famous Saudi Arabian stud farms along with all its horses, buildings, facilities, clinic and making the generous plan of sharing some of its pearls for free with other breeders – that’s an idea being noted once in some breeders lifetime. We are talking about the giant breeding plan of Mr Abdulaziz Saleh Abdulaziz Al Rajhi – the founder and owner of Al Rajhiat Stud in Saudi Arabia. For every Arabian horse lover the collection of most precious, entitled and famous horses is a dream, for Mr Abdulaziz is truly a dream coming true. It all has began in 2020 when Al Rajhiat Stud has acquired one of the most entitled Arabian mares in the world, called „One in A Millon” - Perfinka (Esparto x Perfirka)… Started her career as a yearling in 2012 until 2020 Perfinka has been crowned as champion in all the continents she appeared at – in Europe, Middle East,

America. Long list of her several champion titles (nine times gold, five times silver) includes those won at most important shows – World Championships (Silver Champion in 2013), PSAIAHF in Riyadh (Gold Champion in 2014), and three most important titles in the USA: National Champion, Breeders World Cup Champion and Scottsdale Gold Champion – all won with gold in 2019 while on lease to Cedar Ridge Arabians, the owner of her champion dam – Perfirka purchased from Poland for 220 000 euro. Perfirka is a title holder of Autumn Show Champion, European Breeders Championship Champion and Best in Show (Poland), European Breeders and International Reserve Champion (France) and National Breeders Finals Senior Gold Champion in Scottsdale. Looking back into their pedigree on dam side Perfinka is the most entitled horse ever bred in the history of Białka State Stud of Poland. She represents the same P-damline of the mare Piewica as the famous Pianissima, Pinga or Pogrom or the past legends and the epitomes of world’s breeding as Pilarka, Penicylina, Piruet or Pipi. Granddam of Perfinka – Perforacja produced 16 foals

including incredible multichampion stallion and sire Pesal. The sire of Perfinka is Esparto - the best son of Ekstern- the Triplecrowned Champion and sire of champions for the last 2 decades around the world. Esparto’s own collection of honors includes among others: twice Polish National Junior Reserve Champion, Wels International Senior Champion and Best in Show, Emirates Senior Champion, Doha International Senior Champion, Dubai International Senior Reserve

Champion, Sharjah International Senior Champion, All Nations Cup Senior Reserve Champion, Al Khalediah Horse Festival Senior Reserve Champion, Polish National Senior Champion, European Senior Reserve Champion and four time World Senior Top Ten Stallion. In the autumn of 2020 the crowned jewel Perfinka has found her new home at Al Rajhiat stud and in March

2021 she has been representing her new owner at the prestigious Dubai International Show. Scored as high as 92,70 points she was undoubt class winner in the senior mares. Amazing horses in the breeding barn and the spectacular come back to the show rings its not the only plan of Mr Abdulaziz Al Rajhi. The great vision of the owner for the new breeding operation at Al Rajhiat makes no doubt that the eyes of the international Arabian

horse community from all around the world will be focused on Al Rahjiat Stud in the next months and years. It seems that Perfinka will play another key role in a great project at her new home at Al Rajhiat Stud. She will again be prepared for a major shows and a great breeding vision is being planned for her future as a broodmare. Without a doubt as the new owner says – she will shine bright and we will see her again soon... q

SHOWS AND EVENTS

The 5th International Arabian Horse Championship Show 2021 by Fabio Brianzoni z photos by Alessio Azzali, KAAHC, Fabio Brianzoni

Finally, after two long years, we were able to return to the magnificent land that is Saudi Arabia. We did so thanks to an invitation, which honors us, from the organization of the KAAHC show, acronym for King Abdulaziz Arabian Horse Championship. Tutto Arabi for many years has been present in the shows in Saudi Arabia and I can say that this edition was really well organized with a family spirit that made us all feel at home. An impressive amount of people always work at these events, from facilities to catering, from lighting to sound and much more. And that is why the care for the horses and especially the guests is excellent. This show has grown a lot over the years despite the great difficulties that the organizers have had to face. We are located in Dirab, a few kilometers from Riyadh, in the “King Abdulaziz Arabian Horse Center”, an ancient sanctuary of the Arabian horse that has an incredible history. The Kaahc center was established in 1381. Since ancient times, Arabian horse have been associated with the Arabian Peninsula and these noble equines have been known throughout history for their

34 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com

strength, beauty and purity. HH king Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Saud greatly respected these horses and took great care for their welfare in addition to the preservation of their bloodlines and pedigrees. Through the continuous support of the Government and the Royal Family, the center is dedicated to preserve the heritage of the Arabian horses in its homeland. Original family strains like “Al Hamdania”, “Al Pbeyan”, “Al Sowati”, “Al Kuhailan”, and most famous “Saqlawi” are still preserved and bred on. This center is the official authority for all Arabian horse matters. All this fascinating and precious history is managed by many competent and friendly people, such as the director of the center Mr. Abdulaziz Saud Almuqbil, the manager for the show management of the facility, Mr. Turki Abdullah Alkhalty, Mr. Turky Mohammed Almuqbil and Mr. Abdulrahman Almutairi. For obvious reasons we were not able to meet and get to know all the management of the center, but certainly the organization and the welcome we had from the moment we landed at Riyadh airport to our departure

SHOWS AND EVENTS

was exceptional by Eng. Obada A. Zabadi and his assistants Mrs. Nada Shahwan and Afnan Alsahl. Mr. Obada was an excellent guide for us throughout, following us step by step in all activities and movements. It is very important to mention that all this is possible thanks to the show Patron “HH King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud” Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the honor of HRH Muhamad bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud the Acting Governor of Riyadh province. The event started on December 15th, a few minutes

drive from the hotel and we reached the Center where the 5th International Show affiliated Ecaho took place. The commentary of the show is always very important and has been entrusted to the beautiful voice of Mrs. Nabila Al Ali and the presenter Mr. Saleh S. Alanzi. Nabila invited the judges to the center of the ring: Mrs. Claudia Darius (Germany), Mrs. Anna Stojanowska (Poland), Mrs. Micaela Weidner (Germany), Mrs. Marianne Tengstedt (Denmak), Mrs. Helen Hennekens-van Nes (Belgium), Dr. Francesco Santoro and Dr. Gianmarco Aragno from Italy, Mr. Sufian Taha

Al Husseni from Palestine and Mr. Carmelo Zaragoza Gimenez (Spain). With more than 300 horses registered, four DCs were invited: Dr. Nils Ismer (Germany), Dr. Bassem Badr, Mr. Saad Alqassim and Mrs. Nourah Albugami from Saudi Arabia. Two Ring Masters, Mr. Sayed Hameed Marzooq

(Bahrain) and Mr. Waleed Al Haddadi (Saudi). The photographers in the field were many, Mr. Mohamed S. Almasaed was the official photographer of the organization and Mr. Alessio Azzali (alessionese@ libero.it) has been invited for our magazine that has been following all the shows in the world for 24 years. To consult scores and results you can see the sites: www.kaahcshow.com and www.arabianessence.tv. The first horses entered, category 1A Fillies yearling and then for the next four days all classes up to 12th, Stallions over 10 years old. Just think, 308 horses judged in just 4 days and with Swiss watch timing. On Saturday morning, another show was held, one that is not common in the world because it is a legacy passed down from the desert, one that is kept alive only in Saudi Arabia: the Desert Bred. They are Arabian horses in their own right and have pedigrees and registered with the Waho. They are very similar to our PBA but with the particularity that they are horses that have a history as old as the desert land itself where for years the Bedouins have used them for travel and battles. A legacy that I hope will never be lost in time!

VERONA INTERNATIONAL CUP EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2021 photos by Alessio Azzali, Simone Bergamaschi, Sunny Sassudelli

by Giorgia Mauri Fieracavalli, now in its 123rd edition, during the second weekend of the event hosted two very important events dedicated to Arabian horses in the ring of the Pala Volkswagen (Hall 8): the European Championship, the most important morphology competition in Europe held in Verona every two years, and the Verona International Cup - B Int. Show. During these three days more than 150 horses - including foals, broodmares and stallions - competed to win the title of the best Arabian bred in Europe. Italy and ANICA association once again demonstrated their ability to manage and propose an event of the highest level, starting from the prestigious location that hosted the two competitions and that in the previous weekend saw the dispute of the World Cup show jumping. First-rate facilities and services, perimeter LED banners and a sound system worthy of an important event such as the European Championship - but it could also have been a World Championship. Let’s remember that with 27,000 horses and 1,000 members, Italy is one of the European countries that has the largest number of Arabian horses on its territory and their representation at Fieracavalli is intended to highlight the other qualities of this breed and attract more and more enthusiasts who could one

day breed and compete internationally and win. In this edition, the podium of the final stud championship was an all-Italian podium, demonstrating that Italy knows how to be among the first in the world and how to have its say on an international level even in a field such as thoroughbred breeding, counting not only on economic availability that supports investments but also and above all on the ability to see beyond and imagine unique scenarios and nuances that accompanied by a little luck can lead to exceptional success. Considering all this we feel we can say that Italy needs to work together and united to keep the name of its breeders high, to maintain the reputation it enjoys thanks to the great efforts of breeders, trainers, veterinarians, technicians, and all the Italian workers who every day bring excellence in the world with their work, with sacrifices, with commitment and dedication. Italy needs to return to be a world reference point for the proposal of international events. And it can do so if all the players involved in this moment will commit themselves and collaborate to win this challenge. We’ll see in the coming months, now that the success of a great event like the European Championship has given a new push and enthusiasm to everyone. q

by Vincenzo Pellegrini, ANICA President

by Talitha Bakker

Anica faced the organization of the traditional European Championship of morphology, approached by the international city of Verona, in a very difficult context, both for the serious delay in the start of the organization (for facts not dependent on Anica) and because it took place within Fieracavalli struggling with the innovative two-week formula for Covid standards. The result, however, left us particularly satisfied and I hope that this satisfaction is shared by those who participated in the event. Anica’s aim was above all to strengthen the perceived identity of this important international event for the world of the Arabian horse and it is for this reason that it has strongly wanted to renew its traditional presence at Fieracavalli. Fieracavalli certainly imposes some compromises, but guarantees the advantage - otherwise unthinkable - of a large audience in attendance, this year constantly above a thousand units and several times at the limit of the quota, with consequent blocking of access to the pavilion; if one considers the rotation of the public in the stands, it can be safely said that a few thousand people every day attended the event. What better promotion for the Arabian horse! Anica has, however, concentrated mainly, from the beginning, on two main and indispensable objectives (i) to guarantee a venue of international standing, with attention to the stabling of the horses, to the technical quality of the ring, to the reception of guests, to the presence of lights, ledwalls and music in line with the expectations of an European Championship, (ii) gather around the team of Anica and involve all the specialized Italian media in the event, believing that it is essential to think of Fieracavalli and the European Championship as an event expected and shared first and foremost by the Italian professional system, one of the richest and most complex in the world. I think that, for the first time, an attempt has been made to lay the foundations for a more complex team, in the conviction that combining Anica’s traditional experience and institutional third party status with the promotional and communicative power of the Italian media, we could aim at further raising the level of the European Championship and perceived identity in the world. Scores of 150,000 contextual visualizations of the live streaming constitute a base that makes the goal anything but unrealistic. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tutto Arabi - which is hosting this speech of mine - for the professionalism and the dedication that it has shown to Anica as a partner in the promotion and communication and for the contribution in the success of the event. q

INTERNATIONAL B-SHOW The international B-show in Verona was held during the European Championships. Some high quality horses were entered. Surprise of the day was the yearling filly Fadwa del Palazzotto (FA el Rasheem x D-Feddah) – bred by Paolo Capecci and owned by Petra Mulder from The Netherlands. She scored the highest score of the day with a total of 92.40 points and was awarded with the Gold medal unanimously. The silver medal was for Magic Sweet Caroline (Magic Aban x Magic Sweet) bred and owned by Fontanella Magic Arabians from Italy. The bronze medal was for Angy by Kanz (Kanz Albidayer x Virginia by Vergil) – bred by Michelle Damiano and owned by Alberto Vitaro. The junior fillies championships was won unanimously by Nijmet al Wadee (Wadee al Shaqab x Joharat Solaz) bred by Abu Hasuna Ahmad and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud from Switzerland. The silver medal was won by AB Jana (Invictus x VA Janette), bred by Mauro Benedetti and owned by Abhaa Arabians. The bronze medal went to Mariel BKV (Ajman Moniscione x ASH Mariella) – bred by the Centre of Arabian Horse Barkai and owned by Franco Nassar. The senior mares was as always a delight to see. Gold medal winner was Juwanda OS (WH Justice x Shak Lavanda) – bred by Gestut Osterhof and owned by Lubochnia Arabians. The silver medal was for Bianca AL (Halyr Meia Lua x Giuliana el Shawan) – bred by Leopoldino Agropec and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud from Switzerland. The bronze medal went to Radegonda by Tresca (Shanghai EA x Del Mar Crispy) – bred by Giancarlo Filippini and owned by Amadio Sparapan. Gold medal winner of the yearling colts was the charismatic EZZ al Kashab (Emerald J x Malikat al Moluk) – bred and owned by Al Khashab Stud. Silver medal champion was AB Bader (Sultan al Zobara x Priscilla OS) – bred and owned by Abhaa Arabians. The bronze medal went to the typey D-Wannas (FA el Rasheem x D Sayedah) – bred by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud and owned by Al Jood stud from Qatar. The junior male championships had no surprises as the pretty D Fannan (Excalibur EA x Elle Flamenca) – bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse stud, won the gold almost unanimously. For the silver and bronze medal it was a tie between Halul and Preisen. In the end, it was the higher class score that gave the silver to Halul al Khor (Excalibur EA x PSL First Light) – bred and owned by Al Khor stud, leaving

After many years of meeting, a few words exchanged on the tables at the Khalediah show and the years passing for everyone, Mr. Fahad Alotaibi and I met again at the KAACH show. It is always nice and satisfying to meet again with an old friend who has been successful in life. Today Mr. Fahad is a breeder, a judge and a wonderful host, in fact he took the opportunity to bring us all together in his luxurious and elegant home. I would like to thank Mr. Fahad and his family for providing us with a wonderful dinner, attention to detail and a special evening with friends. Mr. Fahad Alotaibi with Mr. Fabio Brianzoni

ARABIAN HORSE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2021

SHOWS AND EVENTS

by Kamila Kozlowska z photos by Alessio Azzali

Paris, believed to be one of the most romantic cities in the world, becomes even more magical shortly before Christmas. Since 1980, it has also been the place of pilgrimages for all Arabian horse aficionados who visit La Ville-Lumière – the City of Light for quite a different reason than to admire its astonishing architecture or to experience its undeniable charm. For more than four decades, Paris has hosted the most prestigious show for the Arabian breed, where incredible individuals compete for the coveted title of the most beautiful Arabian horse in the world. This year, the World Championships was awaited with more apprehension than ever before, due to the devastating cancellation last year. Therefore, after 41 years of its existence in the current shape and form, the whole Arabian horse world finally had the chance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the show which, after a few years, also moved back into the old venue, Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. This spectacular show would not be possible without the tremendous effort of the whole organising team: the President of the Show, Jean-Luc Poulain and the Director of the Championship, Arnaud Lemoine, both from CENECA, strongly supported by Laurence Boccard, the Manager of the Show as well as Technical Advisors and Consultants, Christiane Chazel and Dominik Briot. Words of appreciation are needed here to express everybody’s gratitude for making it happen despite the world-wide pandemics. With 120 tables and almost a thousand people in the VIP area, making sure that all the safety rules are followed was indeed an enormous effort. Such a special occasion also required a carefully chosen group of judges from all over the world and thus Claudia Darius from Germany, Berengere Fayt from Belgium, Eric Gear from France, Ahmed Hamza from Egypt, Murillo Kammer from Brazil, Francesco Santoro from Italy, Tomasz Tarczynski from Poland, Marianne Tengstedt from Denmark, Terry Holmes and Joseph Polo, both from the USA, took up a tremendous task of evaluating 74 classy contenders, aspiring to become 2021 world champions. The welfare of all animals was ensured by the Disciplinary Committee made of Dr Laura Mascagna from Italy, Dr Abdel Wahab ben Ali Amira from the UAE, Jean-Bernard Kupaj and Christine Valette, both from France.

Friday – Female Classes Each day of this significant show brings anticipation and excitement to all gathered at Paris Expo as well as to those who were not able to attend the show in person and followed the livestream provided by Arabian Essence, which also reached a record number of people this year. It was no different this time as Friday featured all the lovely ladies. The show started at 12 p.m. with two classes of yearling fillies. Class 1A began on a high note, with all four class contenders qualifying for the Sunday championship. All four fillies scored above 90 points, but it was the charismatic chestnut Perfecta Al Jassimya (Picasso Di Mar x Jazanah Al Jassimya / WH Justice), bred and owned by the Qatari Al Jassimya Farm, who won the class with a total score of 92.79 points, including 2x20 for type, 4x20 for head and neck and a 20 for movement. She was followed by another representative of Qatar, the beautiful bay Jalyla AT (Mader Al Jamal x Jayda Alrabi / Majd Alrabi), the pride and joy of Al Thumama Stud, who scored one point less than the winner, receiving ‘only’ one 20 for type. The grey Excalibur EA daughter, Danah Pearl (x SW DA Vidica / Da Vinci FM), currently owned by Akmal Stud, came third in the qualifications, while the bay descendant of two show superstars representing Al Shiraa Stables, Iralda Al Shiraa (FA EL Rasheem x Eralda / Emerald J), closed the prize-giving ceremony of the first class. Nine high-quality contestants were presented in the next section of yearling fillies and again all of them achieved total scores of more than 90 points. The top position in the class belonged to Dubai Arabian Horse Stud and their lovely grey D Beisan (D Seraj x RAH Rosalia / Rahere). With the total score of 92.86 points, a 20 for type and another 5x20 for head and neck, D Beisan left other competitors behind. The typy grey representative of Ajman Stud, AJ Kayya (AJ Kafu x AJA Caprice / EKS Alihandro), was breathing down Beisan’s neck when judges appreciated her beauty with 8x20, including 4x20 for type, 3x20 for head and neck and a 20 for her powerful animated trot. However, the total score of 92.57 points was not enough to win the class and AJ Kayya had to settle for the second position in the ranking. The other three fillies that qualified for the Yearling Fillies Championship included two bay beauties, Majeeda Al Baydaa (Marajj x Madinat Al Baydaa / RFI Farid) representing Egypt and Demasheq Alsayed (Validoro x Delight’s Divah RB / Ajman Moniscione) from Saudi Arabia, separated in the ranking by the classy chestnut RDS Aphrodite (E.S. Harir x Forelock’s Yaya /

Psytadel), bred by Royal Dutch Arabian Stud and owned by De Cartherey Arabians from France. The two qualifying classes featuring junior fillies were equally if not more exciting. Class 2B was taken by storm by the exotically refined daughter of Excalibur EA, the breath-taking bay RDS Exquisite (x Angelica KS / Ajman Moniscione), also bred by Royal Dutch Arabian Stud and currently owned by Al Orasia Stud from Bahrain. A beautiful round score of 93.00 points and 9x20 (4x20 for type and 5x20 for head and neck) prove that her breeders could not have chosen a better name for this excellent filly. Second place in the class belonged to another lovely Excalibur EA daughter, bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud. The grey D Jahraa (x D Jawaher / Fa El Rasheem) received 2x20 for head and neck and a high final mark of 92.14 points. 91.57 points and one 20 for movement was the result of the dark bay representative of Klikowa Arabians from Poland. Laura KL, the daughter of Wadee Al Shaqab and Lili PS (by Ekstern), finished the class in third position. The last two qualifying places were occupied by the bay Bdour Akmal (SMA Magic One x Pepita / Ekstern), bred and owned by Akmal Stud, and the grey Despina AA ( Jyar Meia Lua x Damdiyah AA / Ajman Moniscione), representing Ariela Arabians from Israel. The second section of the junior fillies was the most numerous class of the show, with 12 participants presented in the arena, all of whom received 90 points and above. The lead in the class was taken by the typy and correct representant of the UAE, the grey daughter of Dominic M, Al Aryam Banafsaj (x Al Aryam Basma / Marajj), presently in the hands of Ajman Stud. Two grey maternal half-sisters, D Judi (AJ Azzam x Elle Flamenca / Ajman Moniscione) and D Fannanah (Excalibur EA x Elle Flamenca / Ajman Moniscione), both representing Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, finished the qualifying class in second and fourth position respectively. At the award-giving ceremony, the daughters of the multi champion mare Elle Flamenca were separated by the direct descendant of another legendary mare, invariably considered to be one of the best daughters of Marwan Al Shaqab, the unforgettable Abha Myra. Her three-year-old exotic grey daughter, Siwar Al Shaqab (by SMA Magic One), made her breeder and owner, the world-famous Qatari Al Shaqab Stud, happy and proud. Her final score of 92.36 points included 3x20 for type and 5x20 for head and neck. The last junior filly to qualify for the Sunday championship scored 91.79 points, including a 20 for type and another one for movement. It was the threeyear-old bay Alexandra RC (Fa El Rasheem x Amabelle / Ajman Moniscione), representing the Royal Cavalry of Oman.

According to some Arabian horse aficionados, senior female classes are the most anticipated part of the show. Altogether, the two classes of senior mares featured 15 participants of such a high quality that none of them scored below 90 points. Class 3A was the welldeserved victory of the seven-year-old magnificent Mozn Albidayer (SMA Magic One x Mattaharii / Magnum Chall HVP). Bred by Albidayer Stud of the UAE and currently owned by Al Wajba Stud from Qatar, the snowwhite beauty bewitched the judges who generously gave her the maximum possible marks (7x20) for type and slightly lower scores (6x20) for head and neck, which resulted in an amazing total of 93.36 points. The second place was awarded to the beautiful bay daughter of Wadee Al Shaqab, the six-year-old Belladonna AT (x Om El Bellatrix / Om El Shahmaan), proudly representing Qatar and Al Thumama Stud. Bella, as she is affectionately called by her owners, received 2x20 for type, a 20 for head and neck and a total score of 92.93 points. Another snowwhite beauty with a high final mark of 92.36 points and one 20 for type, head and neck and movement came third in the class ranking. It was the five-year-old daughter of Shanghai EA, TM Galileah (x Karolina / DA Lirium BMW), bred in Brazil by Jose Orlando A Teirxeira Jr. and currently owned by Bader Abab Al Subai from Kuwait. The last two places in the class that qualified for the championships were taken by the four-year-old stable companions coming from Poland. The beautiful bay Protekcja (Ekstern x Pentra / Poganin) and the classy chestnut El Bellisima (Ascot DD x Ekliptyka / Ekstern), both representing Michalow State Stud, received 91.93 and 91.43 points respectively. Additionally, Protekcja earned 3x20 for her ground-covering trot, while El Bellisima received one 20, also for movement. The last class of the day finished with a decisive triumph of the fantastic flea-bitten Noft Al Nayfat (Ajman Moniscione x Eagleridge Passionata / Sanadik El Shaklan). Flying in the air throughout most of the presentation, this tenyear-old representant of Aljassimya Farm received 6x20 for type, 7x20 for head and neck and 4x20 for movement. Her truly impressive total score of 93.93 points barely surprised anyone. The next three places in the class were occupied by the Polish mares bred by Janow Podlaski State Stud. With 92.86 points, 2x20 for type, a 20 for head and neck and 4x20 for movement, the eight-year old amazing Alsa (Kahil Al Shaqab x Alameda / Wachlarz), now belonging to Hanaya Arabian Stud of Switzerland, secured the second place in the ranking. Right after Alsa came her former stable companion Euzona (Om El Bellissimo x Euzetia / Etogram), who still occupies one of the stables at her home stud. The ten-year-old ethereal Euzona enchanted the judges with her elegant trot, for

SHOWS AND EVENTS which she received 4x20. With another 20 for type, she achieved a very good final mark of 92.57 points. 92.14 points and one 20 for movement was the final result of Anawera (Piaff x Altamira / Ekstern), who belongs to the same powerfully moving dam line as Alsa and now represents Suweco Stud from Czech Republic. Last but not least, the snow-white daughter of Shanghai EA, the nine-year-old typy Cap Bianca (x Arabians Blanca / Efren), bred by Ganaderia Pedro Carriedo Cubillas from Spain and owned by Alqasmiah Stud of Saudi Arabia, closed the last prize-giving ceremony of the day with the final score of 92.07 points, including 2x20 for type. Saturday – Male Classes After the female qualifications that lasted till late Friday afternoon, Saturday was all about the handsome boys. Again, the show started at midday with two sections of yearling colts. The first win of the day belonged to the exotically refined Lehon (Fa El Rasheem x Aragia Vanilla / Kahil Al Shaqab). Representing Qatar and Al Jassimya Farm, this beautiful bay colt received 4x20 for type, 3x20 for head and neck, another 20 for movement and the final score of 92.93 points. Second place belonged to Al Khashab Stud from Kuwait and their lovely grey Emerald J son, Ezz Alkhashab (x Malikat Al Moluk / Mameluk). Barely touching the ground during the presentation, Ezz scored 6x20 for movement. Additional 3x20 for type and 3x20 for head and neck made a very good final mark of 92.71 points. Exactly 0.50 points less and third position in the ranking was the result of D Shahhar (Excalibur EA x D Shihanah / Fa El Rasheem), bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud. This refined grey colt received 3x20 for type and 4x20 for head and neck. Last two qualifying places in this class were occupied by the representants of Polish private breeding. The exotic bay Nahil Al Khalediah (Ghaith Al Zobair x Nawal Al Khalediah / Forteynas Magic), bred and owned by Polska AKF, entered the championship with a total score of 91.57 points, including 2x20 for type, while the representative of Regina Arabians, the elegant grey El Draco RA (Morion x El Medisa / Shanghai EA), with 90.79 points, finished the qualifications in the fifth position. In class 4B, two colts belonging to Dubai Arabian Horse Stud opened and closed the prize-giving ceremony. The top position in the ranking belonged to the exquisite grey D Sharar (D Seraj x FT Shaella / Shael Dream Desert), whose total score was exactly the same as the one of Lehon, the winner of the first yearling colts’ section. The final result of 92.93 points for D Sharar was made of 6x20 for type, 4x20 for head and neck and a 20 for movement. At the other end of the class top five was his bay stable mate, D Rasel (Fa El Rasheem x Ladi Veronika / Versace), with

91.86 points in total. In between the two representants of Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, the three qualifying colts scored above 92 points. Two excellent movers qualified for the second and third place in the class ranking. The typy grey Al Duhail Al Shaqab (Fahad Al Rayyan x Hayam Al Shaqab / Marwan Al Shaqab) achieved 92.71 points for his breeder and owner, Al Shaqab Stud from Qatar. With 2x20 for type, 3x20 for head and neck and 6x20 for movement, he outrivalled the grey representant of Uruguay, LR Solo Mio (AJ Radman x LR Buena Mia / Excalibur EA), bred and owned by Estancia Las Rosas, as well as the bay contender from the UAE, Muneer KH (Fa El Rasheem x Pialena / Marajj), representing Alkaheela Arabian Horse Stud. Class 5A for junior colts had only three participants. First and second place were occupied by two grey but completely different sons of Excalibur EA. With a very high score of 93.64 points, including 4x20 for type, 4x20 for head and neck and 3x20 for movement, RDS Armani (x Stellaris BPA / Star Ghazal), bred by Royal Dutch Arabian Stud and leased by Al Jassimya Farm, took the lead in the class. He was followed by RK Nadra (x RK Andra / EKS Alihandro), representing Shazin Societa’ Agricola A R.L. from Italy, who received 92.07 points, securing the second position in the ranking. Third place with 91.50 points was the result of Razeen Al Nasser (QR Marc x Remal Al Nasser / Ashhal Al Rayyan), representing Qatar and Al Nasser Stud. Class 5B was dominated by the progeny of the famous Fa El Rasheem as four out of five contenders were sired by this fashionable stallion. Two three-year-old bay colts bred by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud landed at the top of the ranking. The exotically refined D Mezyan (x D Mazaia / Royal Colours), presently the pride and joy of Al Sheikh Stud from Palestine, secured the first position in the class with a spectacular score of 93.43 points, including the maximum marks for type and 5x20 for head and neck. His main competitor, D Sheimaz (x Ladi Veronika / Versace), received 6x20 for type and 3x20 for head and neck, which resulted in the final score of 92.64 points. Another three-year-old bey son of Fa El Rasheem, Mutabahi Al Hawajer (x ZT Magrumi / ZT Magnanimus), received maximum marks for his exotically refined head and swan-like neck, which gave him third position in the class with the round 92.00 points. 90.57 points was the final result of the fourth Fa El Rasheem son that qualified for the Junior Colt Championship. Rasheeb (x Eurobelle KA / QR Marc) finished the qualifications ahead of the only grey colt in the class. Pegaze J (Shiraz De Lafon x Paris J / Emerald J), bred by Jadem Arabians of Belgium and owned by Jose Musetti, received 90.21 points in total.

The two senior male classes were not particularly crowded but still pretty exciting as all five stallions scored above 92 points. Class 6A turned out to be very successful for the four-year-old representative of Kuwait. The typy and refined snow-white Harbi Al Adwan (Asfoor Al Waab x Wadha Al Adwan / Fayad Alfayyad), bred and owned by Adwan Ateej Basheer Al Adwani, received 5x20 for type, 6x20 for head and neck, 2x20 for movement and the total score of 93.14 points, outshining the class favourite, the remarkable Raoud Albidayer (SMA Magic One x DL Marielle / Marwan Al Shaqab). Representing Albidayer Stud of the UAE, Raoud reached for the second position with 92.79 points, including 5x20 for type, a 20 for head and neck and 3x20 for movement. Finally, third place in the class was given to the high-trotting chestnut representative of Janow Podlaski State Stud from Poland, the four-year-old elegant Erantis (Ascot DD x Eugara / Om El Bellissimo). His high marks for movement (4x20) and another 20 for type made his final score of 92.14 points. The last class of the day featured only two contenders, but what classy contenders they were! Two highest scores among all the male participants. The final win in the qualifying classes belonged to the ten-year-old electrifying E.S. Harir (AJ Dinar x TF Magnums Magic / Magnum Psyche). This gorgeous grey representative of Akmal Stud from Saudi Arabia impressed the judges so much that he received maximum marks for type as well as head and neck and another 2x20 for movement. The jury showed their appreciation for this stunning stallion with the highest total score of the show, 94.43 points. His only rival in the class, the nine-year-old grey representant of Al Khashab Stud from Kuwait, the powerfully moving Shakar Pegasus (Shaezz El Madan x Jameel Pegasus / Gris El Jamaal), did not stay too far behind and with a final result of 93.71 points, including 6x20 for type, 2x20 for head and neck and 5x20 for movement, he was the last horse to qualify for the Sunday championships. Sunday - Championships The feelings of anticipation and excitement reached the peak on Sunday morning. However, the organizers decided to serve us a good portion of entertainment before we could move on to the ‘main dish’, meaning the championships. After a few interesting performances, the time came for the champions to be named and presented to the world. Traditionally, yearling females were the first to go, giving the judges a difficult decision to make. Far from being unanimous, the jury finally decided to divide the three champion titles between three beautiful contenders from the Middle East. With 27 points in the championship, the gold medal was awarded to Dubai Arabian Horse Stud and their delightful D Beisan. When

122 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com

it comes to silver and bronze champion titles, two fillies received the same score in the championships and the final placement on the podium had to be determined by their results in the class. Thus, the winner of class 1A, the captivating chestnut Perfecta Al Jassimya from Qatar, went for silver, while the amazing grey AJ Kayya went home carrying the bronze medal for her proud breeder and owner, Ajman Stud from the UAE. The remaining six fillies that qualified for the championship had to settle for the Top Ten titles. The fact that it is an open championship with such a big group of judges makes it even more exciting as everything can happen. It is not unusual that horses from third position in the class become gold champions. This is exactly what happened in the Junior Fillies Championship, were the majority of votes for gold went to the exotically refined representative of Al Shaqab Stud from Qatar, the silver-grey Siwar Al Shaqab. Skilfully presented by Raphael Curti, Siwar demonstrated a perfect stand up, repeating her success from the 2021 Menton show. Similarly to the yearling fillies’ section, the silver and bronze champion titles were decided on the basis of the class scores. In consequence, the winner of class 2A, the beautiful bay RDS Exquisite, had to give place on the podium to the slightly older contender from the UAE. Al Aryam Banafsaj, who also won her class on Friday, took the second place on the podium together with the silver medal, while Al Orasia Stud from Bahrain collected the bronze champion title for RDS Exquisite. Once more, the seven remaining candidates, not lucky enough to win a medal, were awarded the World Top Ten Junior Filly titles. The judges’ verdict in the last female championship of the day hardly surprised anyone, with all three medallists proudly representing Qatar. Very close to being a unanimous champion and certainly one of the crowd’s favourites, the noble grey Noft Al Nayfat, won another title for Aljassimya Farm, becoming Gold World Champion Senior Mare. The silver medal was claimed by Al Wajba Stud and their magnificent snow-white Mozn Albidayer, who was also named Best Straight Egyptian Female, while the Bronze World Champion Senior Mare title went to the bay beauty from Al Thumama Stud, the bewitching Belladonna AT. Except from the other seven senior female contenders collecting their Top Ten titles, there was a very special award-giving ceremony for an exceptional Arabian mare. The nine-year-old breathtakingly beautiful Baviera HVP (Marwan Al Shaqab x HB Bessolea / Besson Carol), who shares the stables with the reigning Silver World Champion Senior Mare Mozn Albidayer, collected the prestigious trophy for Platinum World Champion Female. Many times

SHOWS AND EVENTS international champion, Baviera won the gold medal at the previous World Championships two years ago. The podium in the Yearling Colts Championship in some respects resembled the one of yearling fillies. Once more, Dubai Arabian Horse Stud collected the gold medal and again, it was the offspring of their homebred stallion, D Seraj. The 2-point difference in favour of D Sharar made him the reining Gold World Champion Yearling Colt. Another similarity to the Yearling Fillies Championship was the fact that Al Jassimya Farm again reached for silver however this time it was not a horse that they bred themselves. Very close to becoming gold champion, the refined bay Lehon had to settle for the second place on the podium and the silver medal. The Bronze World Champion Yearling Colt title was awarded to the grey representative of Kuwait, Ezz Alkhashab, making Al Khashab Stud another proud breeder and owner of a world champion. In the Junior Colt Championship, Dubai Arabian Horse Stud as well as Al Sheikh Stud had many reasons to celebrate. With a substantial advantage over the other seven colts, D Mezyan, bred by Dubai Stud and currently owned by Al Sheikh Stud, took over the top of the podium. Not only was it a great personal success of Sheikh Suliman and his breeding programme but it was also a historical win for Palestine. Al Sheikh Stud won their third World Champion in their short breeding history and it was the first ever gold medal for a Palestinian stud. However, D Mezyan was not the only medallist in this championship born at Dubai Arabian Horse Stud. D Sheimaz, who still belongs to his breeder, acquired the Bronze World Champion Junior Colt title but it was still not the end of Dubai Stud’s spectacular success at the 2021 World Championships. Both the sire and dam of the bronze medallist received special awards. The famous Fa El Rasheem (Fa El Shawan x Virtuosa MLR / Versace), who is also the sire of D Mezyan and Lehon, was named Best Sire of the show, while Ladi Veronika (Versace x Nisrs Natevka / Ansata El Nisr) became Best Dam of the 2021 World Championships. A few other significant special awards landed in the hands of Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, including Best Breeder/Owner Trophy, Farm of the Year and Best Breeder in the Show. Also, Al Jassimya Farm’s collection of trophies was enhanced with another silver medal, this time for RDS Armani. During the awardgiving ceremony, Silver World Champion Junior Colt was accompanied by his proud breeders and owners, Amira and Eiad Safady of Royal Dutch Arabian Stud, one of the most accomplished private breeders in Europe, who worked hard for their success but did not have to wait

long for amazing results. After junior colts there came a time for the final contest of the day. Senior Stallion Championship featured only five finalists. It comes as no surprise that the enchanting E.S. Harir boldly reached for the gold medal, becoming the only unanimous champion of the show. Silver and bronze champion titles went to two refined grey representatives of Kuwait, Shakar Pegasus and Harbi Al Adwan respectively. All the colts and stallions that qualified for the championships but did not win a medal were awarded Top Ten titles. Speaking of titles, the last stallion that attended the award-giving ceremony in Paris won plenty of prizes in the past few years. Already five times World Champion, the masculine and charismatic Equator (QR Marc x Ekliptyka / Ekstern) once again appeared in the Parisian arena to collect the well-deserved title of Platinum World Champion Male. Bred by Michalow State Stud of Poland, Equator was accompanied by his new owners, Al Rajhiat Stud of Saudi Arabia, at the culminating stage of his long and successful show career. In this way, on Sunday afternoon, we already knew all the 2021 world champions. After two long years of waiting, the three days of the show seemed to have passed in the blink of an eye but many magical moments will stay with us forever. May these 40 years of almost continuous celebration of the Arabian horse and its breath-taking beauty remain the feast for the eyes and the food for the souls for all Arabian horse aficionados. Against all odds, ‘the show must go on’. As the Tutto Arabi Team, we would like to thank all our readers as well as all the breeders and owners for their continued support throughout these challenging times. We hope you will stay with us in 2022 which will also bring new readers and enthusiasts of these incredible horses. We were proud to present some new publications in Paris, including vol. XVIII of Arabian Stallions of the World, the current issue of Desert Heritage as well as the wall and table calendars for 2022. All the items exhibited in Paris can be ordered here: info@tuttoarabi.it. It was also an immense pleasure for us to organise a photo wall for everyone to capture the memories from this great event. The cooperation of Alim Editrice, Tutto Arabi and ‘We Women’ Project, created by Giorgia Mauri and supported for this special occasion by Mindy Peters Arabians, turned out to be a great idea which met with everyone’s enthusiasm and appreciation. Our fantastic photographers, Alessio Azzali and Simone Bergamaschi, managed to capture some great moments from the show. q

WE, WOMEN project was present in Paris during the World Championship 2021 with a dedicated photographic project cosponsored by Mindy Peters Arabians. The project’s goal was involving as many people as possible - women and men all together - in support of the idea that young women must be encouraged and helped in finding their way and writing their own history. Many people coming from the Arabian horse world answered to our call to participate in the project and joined us by posing at the booth for a portrait taken by Simone Bergamaschi, the talented photographer who accompanied us in this special event. The pictures in the following pages tell something of who we are and a lot about our desire to stay together. Don’t forget that united we are unstoppable. Stay united to reach our common goals in life, to support young people who are our future, the future of all of us. Since its beginning We, Women project asks the women of the Arabian horse to express their message to the girls and young women who are entering the world today. The project aims to encouraging girls to take their own path and follow their dream, whatever it may be. Intimate portraits of strong women determined to achieve their goals and happy to share their experiences. Passion, enthusiasm, foresight, emotion and the desire to tell their stories emerged from the interviews. These generous women and their stories represent the soil on which tomorrow will sprout the lives and stories of our daughters, our granddaughters and our future. It is important to mark a path today, to try to draw a map of thoughts and words of the women of today that will help the women of tomorrow to find their way in the world. way in the world. This project is dedicated to Blanca, my daughter, and to all the women who write, thanks to their tenacity, the history of this world every day. Giorgia Mauri,

SHOWS AND EVENTS

text and photos by Ewa Imielska-Hebda

Thanks to the invitation received from the “SERC” Sharjah Equestrian & Racing Club, we were again honoured to attend Sharjah Kalba Arabian Horse Festival which took place this year in the emirate of Sharjah in United Arab Emirates. This Arabian Horse Festival is traditionally held in Kalba, which is a city in the Emirate of Sharjah located on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates. Enjoying coastal access to the Gulf of Oman and beautiful waterways to mountainscapes, the city is separated from Sharjah by the Emirate of Fujairah, and as the Emirate of Sharjah is renowned as the Cultural Capital of the United Arabian Emirates, the city of Kalba is also renowned as one of the UAE’s most prominent eco-tourism spots.

by making this Festival proffesional, pleasant, safe and memorable and they did their best to ensure that everyone felt welcome and that everything was prefectly prepared and going well. It is also important to say that this year’s Festival was - just as the previous two editions - a wonderful treat for the eyes and for the senses. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere of the Festival very enjoyable and it gathered many arabian horses (males and females) up to 3 years of age.

It is always a great pleasure to come back to Kalba to see and enjoy the beauty of arabian horses and the uniqe atmosphere of this place, as the show ground was traditionally located in the picturesque Kalba Corniche Park, directly on the beach and next to the ocean.

Throught the first two days the horses competed with each other with the cheering of the audience and the third day the Festival was most emotional, accompanied with cheering and applause from the gathered audience as the colts of three years old entered the arena and also the Championships took place.

As always as the organisers made a wonderfully good job

As always it was a wonderful event worth remembering. q

10TH AHO BREEDERS’ EGYPTIAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2021 text by Silvia Fontana - photos by Simone Bergamaschi

It’s almost noon, the sand is leveled, tables are waiting for guests, and the participants in the tenth edition of the AHO Breeders’ Egyptian Championship are ready for the show in the beautiful Rabab Stud, Cairo, Egypt.

into the modernity of an ever-developing stable, with its paddocks surrounded by palm trees and desert sand that gives its color to the stables. Here, grooms care for the horses and prepare them for the show, while the handlers seek the right concentration to get started.

Reaching the Rabab stud farm is a journey through centuries of human history, as the trip gives the opportunity to admire the magnificence of the pyramids of ancient Egypt on the way. But it is also a welcome

When the time comes, the judges take their places in the arena: Scanzi Fausto, Al Mukhtari Khali, Al Mehyawi Majed, Al Khamis Mohammed, Sharawi Ali, Saad Sami Mohamed.

The show begins with the Yearling Filles, followed by two categories of Junior Filles and the Senior Mares. Throughout the afternoon, guests and audiences arrive, and the atmosphere becomes increasingly friendly. As beautiful animals walk and show themselves in the arena, people hug and smile among the tables, old friends get together and chat, and the noise goes up as people become more enticed. Soon the tables are filled with plates and desserts, as the scent of cardamom coffee wafts through the air. The same atmosphere welcomes guests on day two, when the Yearling Colts, Young Colts and Senior Stallions classes are held, and then on day three, the long-awaited Championships. This last afternoon is filled with excitement, public support increases in every category, and breeders begin to celebrate and embrace each other in front of their horses’ performances. The suspense mounts late in the afternoon as we await the Senior Stallions, but first a grand light show celebrates this tenth edition of the AHO Breeder’s Egyptian Championship, and then the elegant awards are presented to the breeders, sponsors and all the people who made this show possible. This joyful atmosphere leads us all through the end of the show, to the moment when the names of the champions are discovered, and continues during the final dinner graciously offered by Khaled Bin Laden, the patron of Rabab Stud, in the elegant and cozy annex where we all have the chance to say goodbye, and see each other next year.
