DESIGN STATEMENT Is the fashion accessible to you!? Or does it isolate you? As a part of the fashion design course, I am asked to identify diversity and create a collection for the relevant market. I have chosen ‘Amputee’ as my subject of diversity due to the belief that an event in one’s life leading to an amputation means a significant change in their daily lives. This shift has hunted some by their guilt of decision that came with huge unseen responsibility. While some adopted being proud individuals whose decision led to a heroic life. They flaunt their amputated limb(s) accepting their new life and spreading their story of how they become an amputee. On the other hand, some amputees aren’t ready to take their life where he/she feels like they have been
strip down from their luxury of their limbs. They try to avoid public gaze. I am not in the position to tell what they feel like, but I have a hunch that they might be feeling like a burden to society. I am taking inspiration from martial arts because a person needs to be physically and mentally strong to endure the training which lacks in an amputee. I am focusing on taekwondo, especially the silhouette of the taekwondo garment. These clothes are comfortable and easy to wear because; a taekwondo fighter needs to move around. I am taking extra interest their belt. I like how their belt is tied knot, and the long ends from both sides are left to fall apart from each other.
