I have studied architecture for six years in two different countries (Romania and Italy) and travelled through many of Europe’s cultural centers. I am interested in the way people live in different areas of the world, the way they build and decorate their homes and the meaning of privacy and social connection in different types of communities. I feel drawn to the elements of japanese art and architecture and the traditional symbols from all around the world. I could always express myself better through drawing art. For me, architecture and art are closely related. In my career I would like to have the chance to design a curch.

THE DIVERSITY OF LIVING IN BUCHAREST
_method
Close observation of the city - analysis of the fragments in realion to one another but also to the hole the aknoledgment of the history and evolution of the place - the construction rules proposed that strongly related to my cause - that of bringing harmony among contrasts.
_site
The chosen site is situated in the southern side of Stefan cel Mare boulevard, in proximity of the Obor market. It served as a tram depot for the first trams to be introduced in Bucharest, and it kept it’s use until 2005 when it was transformed in a shopping mall. The history made it possible for this site to remain out of the main program of the area, that of habitation. The neighbouring sites densified again and again until every gap was filled with a house, resulting in diverse typologies of buildings in different styles. The fabric of houses was put in contrast to the socialist courtain of flats built to border the boulevard, an intervention that deeply changed the charecter of the site, isolating it from the boulevard, cutting the immediat connection to the city and throwing it the contrasting situation where it is today. The atmosphere of the area is colourful, bringing toghether different types of people that inhabit buildings of different sizes and styles.
collective dwellings type 1
_concept
In the search of a method to connect the very distinct typologies, houses and flats, they are brought together in a controlled and unified attempt, bringing in the site all the diversity of the area. The limit between private and public is flexible, the houses have gardens in front of them that are communal property, the block have terraces at the ground level that face the inner courtyard.

THE HUMANE SCALE [low rise] The charecter of this project is very personal. The search for concept and reasons was honest, based on my hopes and dreams for this city. The first attmept at organising this complex space, complexity that comes from it’s delicate position in the city, has been to add a human scale to the buildings, although the regulation allows for high rise typology, my view is one of a lower height but complex typology. In the first phase of the project, the main blocks of flats are arranged in 3 paralel beams of maximum 4 levels, where all the appartments have double orientation and the acces is made from a semi-open hallway with stairs that connect all the levels. The hallway is a meeting place for neighbours, before the actual entrance every appartment has a small private space. There is a dynamism and a call to play in the way the appartments are arranged, split-levels and double heights This should be a place for everyone to feel at home and confortable, young people would have their meeting areas, children would have places to play and elders would satisfy both their privacy and social needs.

second phase
THE REALITY CHECK [higher rise] The second phase is about realistic expectations. Architecture becomes valuable only if it can exist, and it’s comming to life depends on the econominc value that comes with it. However, going through the utopian excercise of a university project helped me to set the ground for a project that is closer to what an avarage investor would pay for. Therefore the flats became taller, increasing the number of appartments and the parking was burried undergorund.

Bucharest Philharmonic
Bucharest City Hall is planning on building a new Philharmonic along with a series of administrative buildings on a site located in the very center of the city, on one of the most important boulevards. In the new masterplan, the Philharmonic stands as the central piece and the design has to highlight the importnance of this new building for the people of the city. The site for the new development is verry big, around 120 000 square meters, standing in the middle of it, one can feel disconnected from the rest of the city, loosing the sense of proximity and scale. A 10x10 meters grid is introduced for a better organisation and controling of the space.

To reach the Philharmonic, one has to walk a long path surrounded by leisure spaces and trees, the path is slowly descending into the ground until it reaches the entrance in the foier at level -1, an attempt at introducing a feeling of stability and direction to this vast space. The austerity of the site called for a very simple volume on the outside, that reveals itself as a complex space on the interior. There are three main spaces divided by two strips of glass, the bigger volume houses the concert halls, in the smaller one people come to study music. The two massive volumes are articulated with the interstitial space in between, connexions are made through elevated platforms and bridges. Immersed into the vastness of the site, hardly seeing any other reminder of the city, one can wonder if he is still in Bucharest, or maybe in a place far away, even Mars.

Public baths and lookout point
Life in the wonderful city of Padua, nothern Italy, has always been inlfuenced by the flowing of Bacciglione river. The importance of the river is obvious not only for economy but also for the lifstyle. In the last years, the river has only been used for leisure activities. more and more activities are starting to take place on it’s banks. The most important area of the river is found in the Bassanello district, in the southern side of the city. There, the spaces for leisure are scarce and people have to go to the center of the city for entertainment. Noticing this two aspects, the lack of entertainment and the historical importance of the area, a combination of architectural program is proposed, a public bath and a lookout point. The wellness center houses saunas, spa areas, pools and yoga studios.Being situated on the slope of the bank, one can see the river from each of the three volumes. The lookout tower houses a small museum dedicated to the hostory of the river, granting different views over the water.

Reconversion and articulation CEHOSLOVACA
In the center of the most controversial urban regeneration project in Bucharest (Diametrala Berzei-Buzesti), there lies the Cehoslovaca textile factory. Built by architect Roger Bolomey, in 1935, as a triute to the good relations between Romania and Cehoslovacia after the first world war, and left in decay today. The obvious architectural value of the building makes it a possible future building landmark for the fashion world. The project is dedicated mostly to the small designers and textile artists who need a space to exhibit their creations, as there is no such place in Bucharest at the moment.

The intervention consists in the renovation of the old building, making it suitable to host fairs, workshops, exhibitions. A metalic canopy covered with light textile material is covering the courtyard, the limits between outside and insie / old and new, are dilluted as the structure continues into the groundlevel of the old building. Another metalic structure marks the entrance and stands as an articulation between old and new. Lastly, at the upper levels of the old factory, bridges are created to make it easier to get from one side of the to the other, made from steal and fabric. The hole project was conceived as an articulation between old and new, a light and neutral intervention that respects and enhances the architectural value of the Cehoslovaca factory.
