ASSIGMENT THE POPULATION OF MADRID DECREASES BY A MILLION PEOPLE After considering the various researches , we decided to modify the existing green belt and use that as a refrence / border to the new shrinking city - as this is the heart of madrid where most of the city’s centralities are based.

MADRID : FROM THE “PLACE” TO THE STRATEGY PROPOSAL - As the border decreases and traps the city into it’s core , we propose using New Yorks green urban plan , except the inverse have the “lungs” of the city surround the concrete jungle. To do this, we mapped all the existing green space as well as all the towns surrounding new madrid to find connections to be able to intertwine the proposed new green urban plan. We propose recycling existing architecture that wont be in use anymore and converting them into green space.

PHASE II. ASSIGMENT THE TOWNS ARE COLOUR CODED ACCORDING TO POPULATION DENSITY. THE TOWNS THAT ARN’T DENSLY POPULATED ARE THE PLACES WHERE THERE IS A GREATER POTENTIAL TO CONVERT THE EXISTING ARCHITECTURE THAT WILL BE ABANDONED ONCE THE CITY SHRINKS, INTO A GREAT GREEN URBAN FABRIC
NEW ECONOMIC CITY ACTIVITY By shrinking the city and allowing the center to be the focus while the surrounding is converted into a green urban space, we realized that the towns with the most buildings we can convert is also where the most dense manual workers are - therefore we are proposing a program that incorporates these two factors to produce a new economic city activity.
PROPOSAL : Instead of hiring workers to do the work of turning the buildings green , we

propose that the manual workers living in the towns turn their buildings into a vegetable garden where they can sell fresh fruits , vegetables as well as flowers. This would in turn help the environment as well as boost the economy.

This map shows the distribution of manual worker density throughout Madrid. The highest proportions of manual worker density are now sharply concentrated in the Southern areas of Madrid, illustrating a clear North-South divide. However, the North-West also has some excess of manual workers, as shown by the light brown areas on the edges of the map. The lowest concentration of manual workers density (shown in dark blue) are found in neighbourhoods North and East of the city centre, and in the Western outskirts of Madrid.
