Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, KBE (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was an

Visual Language In addition to the classic suspensions and thrillers, I think the strong contrast of shadows, the exchange of light and shadow, and the sense of suffocation and oppression that permeates every film are the hallmarks of Hitchcock.

DIRECTOR CONNECTION Fear of Unknow Hitchcock prefers the unknowns of what actually will happens in life, while rivers prefers the fear of the unknowns of the future. The fear of unknowable forces..

Psychological Hitchcock incorporated psychology into the film, reflecting the

Alfred Hitchcoc

different psychological situations of the characters through lens language and shooting. There are also many metaphorical shots in the film to indicate the psychological changes of the characters, while Truffaut is more extreme. He pushes people’s feelings to an extreme situation to arrange and tell the fate of the characters, and has a deeper and vivid grasp of the mental state of people in love and marriage than a psychologist.

François Truffaut

Mood / Atmosphere Both directors are good at creating a subdued and tense atmosphere / Mood

Matt Reeves

Repression of human nature Hitchcock almost initiated the discussion of human nature, while David fincher dug deep into the darkness of human nature.

David Fincher

ck Terror / Intense Palma is deeply influenced by Hitchcock, and what he shares with Hitchcock is that they both combine visual expression with the element of terror, creating a unique sense of terror and suspense.

DESIGN BRIEF

Thread Breakdown The thread is necessary for me to determine the overall style of the film festival.By presenting the thread in the form of a story, the audience can better understand the style of the film festival and provide a basis for future visual development.

a / who: b / doing what: c / what do they feel d - g / plus condition

Guiding Narrative The purpose of directing the narrative is to help me determine the style of the images and how they are processed.

Who:

I am a woman who shopping alone...

Where:

...in a crowded shopping main street, I keep feel that someone is following me,

What:

...from the reflection of the case window, I see a shadow approaching me. I was very afraid of the shadow, because I don’t know if it’s come to hurt me or if it knows I had stolen a bag.

Materials Narrative:

In this case, the woman will be my POV, I may look to the shopping windows, walls around her or the crowed around her.

18

Part 1 / Initial Plans

Audience People who need a light at night, because the dark shadows in the wardrobe are sometimes difficult to tell it’s from the clothes or people. People who walk on the street and always look back, because past experiences always make them feel the pressure behind People who do not go down the stairs alone, because the spiral staircase and the echo of footsteps made them feel like someone else is in the stairwell.

Date August 13, 2029 — August 16, 2029. It will be held to commemorate the time when Hitchcock first entered Hollywood and the 130th anniversary of his birthday.

Location Stage 18 100 Universal City Plaza Los Angeles Universal Studio Sound Stage 18, I chose this place not only because Hitchcock was shooting in this type of studio, but because I wanted to create a fake scene such as a warm kitchens and blank curtains. I wanted to show Hitchcockian fear in this carefully designed, outwardly warm scene.

Lurking in the Shadows Film Festival

THANK YOU.

This semester brought challenges none of us thought we would face. In the face of those challenges, we chose to continue to create and design instead of allowing external forces to overwhelm us. I’d like to thank my classmates, instructors, and everyone else who helped to push this project succeed. Your words of inspiration and guidance helped point me towards the light. When all around us was unknown and ambiguity. Please contact me if you have any comments. Thank you again for reading.
