TRNKOVA LIBRARY Competition Project | Olomouc, Czech Republic Team work with Ing. Arch. Libor Kodl

Trnkova Library The library deserves a representative public space. Therefore, we orient the entrance to the western main facade and in front of it we create a “square” with a water feature and an alley. This space smoothly transitions to the green roof of the parking house with one above-ground and one underground floor. We will slightly increase the volume of the building in order to obtain more favorable upper indirect lighting for books and the indoor climate. In the interior, this creates one large multi-storey space lined with galleries with bookshelves. Its dominant feature is a staircase with seating on the sides, under which there is a children’s corner. The space is freely accessible to the eastern entrance, where there is the possibility of outdoor seating with a connection to the cafe and playground. On the second part of the ground floor of the building, there are technical and hygienic facilities, a reception and a staff area. Upstairs there is a reading room and a PC room and a lockable children’s department with the possibility of dimming and projection / discussion. The walkway under the green roof is also accessible. It is “suspended” on a steel structure that connects to the existing reinforced concrete columns. The entire construction system is thus preserved, including the masonry, which is insulated with mineral wool and lined with weatherresistant steel (corten) with a carved pattern in the form of stylized traditional Moravian decor.

HIGH SPEED TRAIN STATION Architectural Design - 8 (2018) | Adana, Turkey

Space and Memory Public spaces are the most critical connecting points of the relations established between the past, present and future. The relationship established with the past also creates reference points for the relationship to be established with the future. Therefore, these areas, beyond being identity-building points for cities, emerge as unique living spaces that reflect the collective memory and urban consciousness of that society. The identities of the cities exist with the continuity of the elements that make up the identity. Therefore, experiences of the present in urban life largely build on what is known about the past, and there is an element of reminiscence in any transfer to the future. Reminiscence has a social aspect beyond being an individual. In other words, urban memory is a mental process established in a social way. In this process, information about the city is remembered through collective memory and is carried to the future through memory places and spaces. (Nora,1997). These concrete spaces, located on a certain place in the city, always existed together with the experiences produced and constantly established a link between the present and the lived past. It was rooted in the concrete, the extension, the movement, the image and the object. For this reason, station buildings are important memory places and places recorded in the collective memory. Re-functionalisation of the Old Train Station Building Train stations are public spaces that play an important role in the identity of the city. In order to keep the train stations, which are our memory places, always in the collective memory, the old station building will be used as education units, library and cultural center.

CONTINUTY IN HEKIMHAN Chamber of Architects Turkey Urban Design Summer Workshop - 2017 | Malatya, Turkey (Group work with 11 co-workers.) Malatya, the 27th most populous province of Turkey with a population of 781,000, is one of the richest regions of Eastern Anatolia in terms of underground resources. In the region; There are iron, chrome, copper, lead and boron deposits. Hekimhan, on the other hand, has the strongest resources of Malatya in terms of minerals. In addition, it is a settlement consisting of many important layers with its topography, natural and historical heritage, unique architectural texture and industrial identity. After the privatization process, production at the Iron and Steel plant in the District was stopped 13 years ago. When the importance of the district in Turkey is examined, the most important feature that distinguishes the settlement from the others is the mineral deposits. For this reason, a center has been proposed to protect the industrial identity of the District, to reveal it through research, to develop it by adding new ones to the existing accumulation, to conduct studies on human health and to research the potentials of the region such as employment and production. Studies show that there are rich underground and surface values in the Eastern Anatolia Region and in Malatya-Hekimhan. In this context, the idea of researching and developing the natural and historical heritage, architectural texture, underground resources and agricultural resources of Hekimhan, transferring the important historical texture to future generations and highlighting the richness of the region has come to the fore. campus proposal. The proposed campus includes a research institute, research units, archive, social facilities, accommodation units and museum programs. 26 - Ali Sakar - Portfolio 2022
