Established as a service town for cattle grazers in the 1860’s, Port Hedland was home to the gold rush population of the 1880’s and was expanded when the Goldsworthy Mining Company began shipping iron ore in 1969. Now a thriving town of 15,000, it offers cultural, recreational and shopping facilities as well as national parks and coastal retreats within easy driving reach. South Hedland, just 15 kilometres inland, is a modern residential centre that increases the number of services offered to local residents – making this a very easy town to raise a family in.

Year One From day one you will have a real job, with real responsibilities. Your on-the-job training will be managed by that business and you will be guided through the specific skills and development needed to perform in your job.
Year Two In Year Two you will participate in a Business Awareness Program that will give you an in-depth understanding of how our business sectors operate and the strategic and commercial issues they manage.
To supplement the on-the-job training, you will attend a BHP Billiton Orientation Program in the regional office nearest your business. In Australia, this is in Melbourne. The BHP Billiton Group Graduate Program explains the underlying principles and policies of our company and will also give you the opportunity to meet other graduates and senior managers.
During this program you will also develop a better understanding of how each of our Group Functions work and learn about the universal standards we follow – and how we adapt them to suit the specific needs of the countries in which we operate.
